RE: Question concerning VBR and Joint Stereo on Standard CD
Joint stereo is crap, especially if you are going to be listening to your music through good speakers. You can always tell a joint stereo file because the top end, especially the simples tend to oscillate between the speakers. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Larry N Sent: Friday, 30 April 2004 2:18 AM To: PC audio discussion list. Subject: Question concerning VBR and Joint Stereo on Standard CD Hi everyone. I have a data CD which consists of assorted MP3 files. My plan was to simply copy those files, paste them into folders and burn them onto standard audio CDs. A friend claims that for best results I should burn using a variable bit rate in joint stereo mode. It is my understanding that VBR and joint stereo apply to the encoding and editing of MP3's and MP3 CD's rather than to the process of burning MP3 files onto a standard CD. My question then is how do I take existing MP3's and apply VBR and joint stereo to a project involving such files? Additionally, if neither Nero nor Easy CD-DA extractor can perform the task, what screen reader compatible software would you suggest? Thanks in advance for any ideas. RE: downloading music
If you have a couple of GB to share, DCPlusPlus is the way to go. Find it on Sourceforge.net, there are also scripts for it, but don't remember the url's but a google search for something like Jaws scripts for DC++ should turn them up. Cheers, Brett. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Ray Slaton Sent: Tuesday, 27 April 2004 10:16 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: downloading music Wow just visited Winmx and could hardly find anything up there. Where are most of you downloading music now? What is accessible with Jaws 5.0 Thanks. RE: Gaps between tracks
Don't know if this will help, but SQR Crossfader is a plugin for winamp which will either produce no gaps or will crossfade, depending on the settings you use. Subject: Re: Gaps between tracks Thanks to all for your ideas. I have more info now. To those who suggested that I combine the files into one file, I could have produced it that way in the first place -- and still might do so -- but my purpose was to allow skipping between tracks on the CD with the skip to next track button rather than having to fast forward through a track. As far as setting the software to have no gaps, as I said in my original message, I had already done that. The gaps were set to 0 sectors, 0 seconds. In case it wasn't obvious, this is an audio CD. When I posted my original message, I had tried playing the CD on my PC using winamp and on my Riovolt portable CD player. The gaps were apparent on both players. Just for kicks, I put the CD into a boom box and there are no gaps. Therefore, it seems to be the player that is the problem, not the burner or CD. What's the deal with these players that put gaps where they hadn't ought to be?
