request for developement of updated jaws scripts for Otsjuke 1.75

2007-03-07 Thread Edwin
Hi Listers,

Just a little note. For those who have been using Otsjuke scripts for jaws,
developed by the snowman might have realised that with the new Otsjuke 1.75,
due to some new enhancements, some of the scripts capabilities are broken.
Also, there are some new features that require some upgrade to the scripts.
The Snowman is seeking for those who are interested for an upgrade to the
scripts to send an email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
to express your interest in development of the scripts. So, if you have always
wanted to get the full potential of the new Otsjuke 1.75 with the powerful
scripts written by Snowman, do send in your emails to him so that he could
start to work on the scripts soon.

Thanks for your time.

Regards,
Edwin.

Audio on Windows Vista

2007-07-28 Thread Edwin
Hi All,

I recently tried playing with Windows Vista and thought of asking some audio
related questions as I am still in the midst of exploring. I got to say
that, if vista matures a little further as time progresses, its worthwhile
the upgrade just for the audio part. 1 very big bonus is that we could now
control indivisual volume controls through the mixer. For example, if we are
listening to real player streams, on xp systems, when u tune down the
volume, it utilise the wav volume and this would affect our screen readers
too. However, on vista, u could indivisually set the current active
application's volume level. In this case, u could have different levels for
your screen reader and real player. This is especially benificial for jaws
as eloquence of jaws on xp system uses the main level of the volume control
of your soundcard. But, I am just a bit puzzled. If such a powerful volume
mixer exists in vista, why there isn't a volume control icon on the startup
group like in xp? I know 1 could just go to control panel and go in to the
sounds item to select our sources and go in to the properties page to set
them, however, i find slightly of a hassel to do that. Of-course I could
just create a shortcut of the sndvol32.exe at the start menu. Any intake
from listers on this?

Next, though not completely audio related, but someword related. I tried
installing Sound Forge 8.0D in vista. I got a msg that SF needs .frame
network 1.1. I tried installing but got some error message and my .dot frame
network couldn't be installed. Does listers know why is this so and is there
a work around?

Finally, its regarding vista's windows media centre. I understand that we
could setup our tv-tuner card to work with WMC and use it to set schedules
and recordings etc and just use it without installing any related pvr
softwares, as in xp. Currently, I have a cable set top box attached to my
card. When I tried configuring it and told it that my card is attached to a
external set top box, it told me that I need a microsoft remote control or
something of that sort. I am a bit puzzled on this. How exactly does this
work? Is WMC any accessible at all? Have I done anything wrong?

Thanks all and hope to get any relevant input from listers who have
experience with vista and its audio. Thanks.

Regards,
Edwin.

Hi Larry,

Yes, i totally agree with what you said. That's why, as I have mentioned,
vista shouldn't be a primary and only os that 1 should have. I am just
having it as a secondary operating system. It does pay of quite a bit to
upgrade to a newer os eh? Smile.

Edwin.

Looking for an accessible professional soundcard

2006-12-19 Thread Edwin
Hi All,

It has been some time since I was subscribed to this list. From the olden
days of Yahoogroups and now to its own domain. Cool! Time really flies. Hope
all of you are fine. Wonder who's the moderator of this list? Smile.

Ok, now to my question. I am seriously thinking of investing a more like
professional soundcard such as those made by m-audio etc. I am now actually
having a M-audio firewire 410. Unfortunately, its control panel is extremely
in-accessible. I have been leaving with it for quite some time and am
puzzled about it so thought of changing something like this model but yet
could give me equivalent quality or even better. Any good recomendations? I
did ponder about creative's x5 range of cards but am afraid of them due to
all my previous experiences with them. Are they any better now? Smile.

I do hope those who have very good knowledge of soundcards could respond to
my enquiry soon. Thanks once again for your help.

Have a wonderful x'mas.

Edwin.

2006-12-19 Thread Edwin
Hi Keith,

Well, strange enough, the delta card's panel are different from the firewire
range of cards, though they are from the same company. Grin! I wish to look
for something external that has what the firewire offers and not having to
be constrained by in-accessibility. Any suggestions from listers?

Thanks.

Edwin.

Hi Uncle Steve,

Hope all's well and fine with ya. To answer your question, yes, SF6 does
have limitations of opening up wav files for more than 2 gigs. If you want
to use SF to open files more than 2 gigs, u got to go for SF9D and above.

Hope it helps.

Re: Skype not closing in Windows 7

Hi Peter,

Pardon me but what I think u meant was putting skype in the system tray
while u are sign in right ? and if u need to bring skype back to the
foreground, u would just call it from the system tray, just like on windows
xp and vista? If so, its fairly simple. just go to the skype options, under
advance, tab till u hear, keep skype in the taskbar while I'm signed in. its
check by default, just uncheck it, tab to safe, and you are done. hope it
helps.

Thanks.

Hi David,

Go to the rockbox web site and download the rockbox utility. everything can
be done in that program including creating of speaking menu/voice clips of
your files, updating your IRiver firmware to work with rockbox if u haven't
done so, installing the latest rockbox software etc. the software is quite
complex and its rather difficult to explain over here. however, it should be
easy to navigate around if u take some time to explore it.

Hope it helps.

Re: Jawbone Jambox info needed

2012-01-11 Thread Edwin

Hi,

for the jambox, at the side of the unit, there is a 3-step toggle switch. at
the far bottom is the off position. gently push it till you get a click.
that's to turn the unit on. however, while turning on, if you constantly
hold on the switch and push to the far top for some time, it will be in
pairing mode. If you have already paird with your device, to avoid any
confusion, just gently push the button to the on position and release it
immediately so as not to toggle to pairing mode. As for the 3 rubbery
buttons, the indent circular button is the mode button which allows you to
answer calls/check battery status etc and the other 2 are volume controls.
Hope it helps.

Subject: Jawbone Jambox info needed

I received a Jawbone Jambox for Christmas and really like the sound for
its size. I am however having problems understanding how to use it, not
because I think there is something wrong with the unit but rather because
I do not understand how to operate it. I listened to Robert Carter's
podcoast, but somehow my unit seems to operate differently although I have
not attempted to update the firmware yet.

Sometimes, when I put the two-position switch on the right end of the
Jambox in the up position, the synthesizer tells me that the unit is in
pairing mode, but it other times this announcement is not made when the
switch is turned on. So please would someone briefly explain the function
of each of its four buttons. Thanks.

mp3 from dvd

2008-02-22 Thread Kurt Edwin Yount
I am going to be getting a dvd of a concert. Is there a tutorial
somewhere that will tell me how to turn this into MP3 files and which
extracter should I use, since I just got a new computer and don't have an
extractor program on here yet. I am open to all suggestions. Thanks.
