Re: Admin: audio books

2005-09-29 Thread JULIE MELTON
Ok, Jeff. I'm not at all sure what will make you happy. First, you said
file downloading was off-topic because of the illegal services out there.
Then, when someone asks if they can legally purchase books, which clearly
fall under the category of PC audio, you scold that person and those of us
kind souls who actually try to help. Wait, I thought that was the purpose
of this list.

I am now unsubscribing permanently from this list. Unless you want others
to follow suit, I suggest you change your high-handed moderating style.

Goodbye, and have a nice life.

The best place to purchase Audio books that I know is
www.audible.com

You can subscribe to a membership for either one or two books a month. In
addition, you can purchase books for about what they would charge for them
in the bookstores.

I haven't found everything I wanted at Audible, but the selection is quite
good.

Hi.

I'm trying to install the Sound Forge 8 demo becuase I'm wanting to upgrade
soon. However, it gave the error message that it needed Dot Net Microsoft
Framework. I installed that, and Sound Forge still doesn't see it. I
restarted my computer, and no joy. Is there a fix for this? Also, if i do
the actual upgrade, will I have the same problem?

Thanks.

Hi, Louie

What you do is copy files from your computer's hard drive, CD, or wherever
you have them, onto the MP3 player. If the "removable Drive" folder doesn't
appear when you plug in the Muvo to your USB port, you should be able to
find it in "My computer." If you have problems, let me know.

Re: what is the most blind friendly portable mp3 player?

2005-02-01 Thread JULIE MELTON
Joe,

I have tried several MP3 players and find the Muvo to be the best so far.
The reason is that you don't have complicated software. Once you install
the drivers on your computer, you can just transfer the MP3's from anywhere
on the computer into the player by cutting and pasting.

The only problem I found with Muvo is, if you get the NX or TX models, the
menus are tricky, but that'll be true for any MP3 player.

You don't have to have Lame to use Goldwave unless you want to save files to

Re: Looking for XM users

2005-01-10 Thread JULIE MELTON
I have to agree with Carl that they could and should make the radios more
accessible. I have a Sirius receiver but can't do anything beyond listening
to the stations adn programming the presets. Even the presets get messed up
if you're not careful. I know that chips for speech aren't all that
expensive, and sighted people as well as the blind would get benefits out of
a talking receiver. Think of all the traffic accidents that could be
prevented, b if the sighted person drove, that is. Anyway, there's much
work to do in accessibility.

"settings". Then press c for control panel.

If you don't have "What you hear," you may want to go into the options menu
on the recording dialog box, either that or properties, and see if it's on
the list of options to select. If so, check it and press OK. If not, I'm
unsure as to how you can record what you want to record.

Samuel,

What sound card are you using? That's important to know in order to help

Hi, I am having a problem with Goldwave. I am trying to record my Window
Eyes and games from the computer into Goldwave but Goldwave isn't picking
them up. Even using my mixer board doesn't work. Can you help? Samuel.

Re: ACCESSIBILITY OF KURZWEIL KEYBOARDS

2004-12-16 Thread JULIE MELTON
I agree that the sounds are some of the best, especially with regard to
piano and guitar sounds. Although I don't use them exclusively, I like and
use them a lot.

Another thing I do to make the keyboards accessible is to use midi software,
Cakewalk in my case, to do sequencing. However, with the Kurzwiel I can
access sounds easily even when playing live.

Even if you can't afford a K2600, Kurzweil keyboards like the PC2 or KME
have buttons rather than touch screens. You have to learn where some things
are in the menus, but the keyboards are fairly accessible. Unfortunately,
no keyboard that I know of is completely accessible, but Kurzweils are
better than most.

playing streams from MSn with Windows Media Player

2004-12-06 Thread JULIE MELTON
Hi, everyone.

I'm having trouble over the past two or three weeks. If I try listening to MSN
Radio or to a sample of music on MSN.com, Windows Media Player will not play
it. I have WMP 10 and Windows XP Home. Windows Media works for other streams
and for any MP3's I play, but when I click a link on MSN.com, it just sits
there, and WMP won't even open up.

Thanks for any help, and please let me know if my question isn't clear enough.

Re: Any Recommendation for New Computer Speakers?

2004-12-05 Thread JULIE MELTON
Bruce,

Creative makes good computer speakers, though most have a subwoofer with them.
The ones I have are small and not that expensive but have an external headphone
jack and volume control on a small control that sits on your desk.
Unfortunately, I cant' remember the model number, though.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good set of computer speakers? I
don't want surround sound or subwoofers, I just want good old fashioned
stereo speakers, though I'll take a subwoofer if that's so much the norm
now. I have a set of Yomaha speakers that I purchased around five or six
years ago that, until now, worked wonderfully, and had really good sound
for their size: good solid bass but not overpowering, with good treble as
  well.

I need a volume control on the speaker, as well as an external headphone
  jack.

Re: Has any one used X M sat ; portable receiver in steel office building?

2004-12-04 Thread JULIE MELTON

  - Original Message -
  From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi.
I use Sirius, which is the competition for XM. I know you can't jog with the
receiver, because you also need an antena as well as a boombox or high fi to
which to hook it.

As for accessibility, I find the receiver very easy to use. The buttons are
all raised and easy to locate.

As far as having it in a steel office building, I don't know how well that
would work because the metal may interfere with the sattelite antena. However,
you may be able to listen to XM on line if you have a subscription. that's
what I do with Sirius at work.

  Hi,
Wonder if any one has used X M satellite radio in steel office building?
Some one told me it is a very small unit--that people can jog with it.
I wonder if blind people can use it?
I wonder if the signal would work in a glass steel building.
  Many thanks.
