RE: recording what you here in windows 7?

2011-11-26 Thread Kathy S.
Hi, Hank and all! At long last, I found a way to do this in Windows 7. I
tried this and it works. I'd be curious to know if this works out for you
guys:

Recording what you hear in Windows 7
At first glance, it may look like Microsoft disabled recording of
internal-or "what you hear"-sounds in Windows 7. Well, they didn't. It's a
little trickier, granted, but this is (often) a quick fix.

To enable it:
1. Right click on the speaker icon in the system tray (bottom right).
2. Choose Recording Devices
3. In the empty white space, right-click and choose Show Disabled Devices.
You should see Stereo Mix appear in the list.
4. Right click on Stereo Mix and choose Enable.
5. Right click on Stereo Mix again, and choose Set as Default Device.

Now you can record anything you hear through your speakers. If you don't
have a program that can record audio, you can get a nice one called Audacity
over here. (It's free!)

Asus Netbook and audio settings

2011-11-25 Thread Kathy S.
Hi, all! I have an Asus netbook that I bought way way back in March of 2009.
For some odd reason, I've never been able to get the thing to keep its audio
settings even if I've clicked okay, apply, whatever. This computer is
running SP Home edition, I believe. I'm using two sound cards, one on the
computer and the other a Turtle Beach so that I can have my screen reader
using one and audio recordeing and playback using the other. Has anyone run
into this?Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong that I can change?

Thanks lots!

Kathy

Playing audio-described pal dvd with jaws 12 and windows media player

2011-10-08 Thread Kathy S.
Hey, all! Does anyone know how to get to the submenu in media player that
lets you choose audio description? My sighted husband can find that choice
using our hewlit-packard dvd player, but so far we can't figure out how to
find that special feature menu in windows media player with jaws. Any help
would be hugely appreciated!

Kathy

p.s. sorry if this is a re-post. Something really funky is going on with

Hey, all, I'm thinking about buying a Roku so that we can watch programs

Is there something better? We're mostly interested in things like dvd's that

streaming!), but also stuff from archives from TV shows, such as Commedy

RE: Finding an actual DVD with audiodescription

2011-07-18 Thread Kathy S.
Bless you, as usual, James! Smile. We did indeed try that mysterious button
on the remote control, but I suppose since there really wasn't any
audiodescription on this particular DVD, the choice didn't show up.

I do think, though, that this whole issue is still really confusing. I
understand that this thing is produced in England, but since I also thought
Universal was involved and said they were adding audiodescription to their
DVD's, it would also stand to reason you could get those in the U.S.

In any case, thanks very much indeed for the proper website to find this
thing!

Take care!

Peace,
Kathy

First, I think you're all missing the Audio button on your DVD player remote
controls. This button, when pressed, will switch between audio languages
for every single DVD on the planet, so if the DVD has audio description,
that's how you can find it without using the menus. There are no exceptions
to this rule.

Secondly, as the audio description for the Harry Potter DVD's is produced by
a UK company (ITFC), it stands to reason that yes, you can only purchase
described copies in the United Kingdom. For a list of DVD's available in
the UK with AD, please visit:
http://www.yourlocalcinema.com/ad.dvd.html

Hope that helps.

Okay, for all your voices lovers, maybe someone can help me out? Recently

How you find and select the audio description track fully depends on the
software you're using and how you want to watch it. For instance, if you
wish to rip the AD track into a standard audio format and store it on your
computer, you might use DVD Audio Extractor, in which case you would choose
"English for Visually Impaired" as the language before ripping. If you just
want to watch the film straight from the DVD itself on a computer, you'll
need software to play it. Windows Media Player and PowerDVD spring to mind,
however the number of software applications available to play DVD's is so
vast that you would need to choose one that you liked, and then someone
could help with language selection to enable audio description. Chances are
that this process would be accessible, but as I say there are too many
different applications to give clear instructions on just one.

If you want to watch the film with AD on your DVD player, some people will
tell you to select the appropriate option in the DVD's inaccessible menu
system. However, all you have to do is simply start playing the film
(usually the very top option on a dVD's menu) and press the "audio"
or "audio language" button on your DVD player's remote control until you
hear audio description.
