hi list I have spy bot and also bear share, now my problem is that when I
clicked on bear share it told me the short cut was missing and that
 windows had to find it.
now I know this is because spy bot did something to it, so what I would
like to know is, how can I keep this from not happening, because it seams
that spy bot got rid of it some how.
would like help with this, thanks so much for your time.

 Hi,

The plug-ins allow you to encode files to different formats. For
 instance,
from wav to MP3, from mp3 to flak, from ram to ogg, etc.

As promised, here are the nero plug ins. They will be available for the

 Hi Chris,

I'd recommend the DS-50, which has talking menus and records 1 GB in
internal memory. It does not use external cards.

Hi Jonathan. I heard in your forging ahead tutorial, you lauded the fact
that the arrows in sound forge 4.5, and at the time 5.0 also move you
forward and backward while the file is playing. In later versions, the q
(loop playback function had to be turned on for it to work, but it did
until sf9 on my computer. I mean, simple, right? Why did Sony disable such
 a
feature? I've been using the right/left arrows as changed by the zoom
 ratio
for 5 years since I bought sf5 (when there was a $99 sale for it) and for
some reason, my sf9 will not move the spot where the file is playing
audibly any more. Like winamp, right left arrow moves the place where the
file is playing, like Studio Recorder, why not, any more, Sound Forge?
 Page
up, page down also moved the cursor larger amounts with the larger zoom
ratios just as right left arrow did, but you know all this, my question is
does it work on your computer, or not? If it does, then there is something
definitely wrong with either (1) my configuration or (2) my download was
corrupted when I got version 9.0C of the software.
 Thanks! :)

That's very unusual. In all the years I have been using CDs I have never
once had that experience. The only thing I can suggest is if you have
 that
experience again is to find the side with the groove and that will be the
non playing surface. The groove is necessary for the CD recorder or
 Drive
to identify the type of disc and then to calibrate itself. The only
 other
thing I can think of is that in spindle tubs of CDS there is often a
 dummy
disc at either end to protect the real discs and maybe you are feeling
 that
 dummy. Walter

Ok. Here's the best way to identify the playing surface and non playing
surface of a CD. Braille readers will be able to use their finger tips
 but
for those who have sensitivity problems use your finger nail but very
carefully. Probably the easiest way to do this, if you are doing it for
 the
first time is to place the disc in the case. From the centre of the
 disc
slowly run your finger nail towards the outer edge of the disc. About
 half
an inch from the spindle hole you will find a deep groove, your finger
 nail
will pick this up. This is the non playing surface. Now if you turn
 the
disc up the other way and again slowly and gently run your finger nail
 from
the centre towards the outer edge about half an inch from the centre you
will find a ridge. Depending on the brand of the disc the ridge will
 vary
in how pronounced it is but it is there and It is a ridge. This is the
playing surface. Once you get used to feeling it then you will know at
 a
very brief touch which side is which. Walter.

will pick this up. This is the non playing surface. Now if you turn the
disc up the other way and again slowly and gently run your finger nail
 from
the centre towards the outer edge about half an inch from the centre you
will find a ridge. Depending on the brand of the disc the ridge will vary
in how pronounced it is but it is there and It is a ridge. This is the
playing surface. Once you get used to feeling it then you will know at a
very brief touch which side is which. Walter.

I got a USB TV tuner dongle from KWorld. I got it because it was
ridiculously cheap at Frye's, so even if it wasn't accessible, I
wouldn't have been out much. As it turns out, the software it comes with
is so simple it works just fine with JAWS, and I'd assume it would also
work just fine with Window Eyes. There is an initial screen where you
have to click on the right icon to get the TV tuner software to load,
but it isn't too hard to figure out. The only downside I've run into so
far, is that I can't adjust the volume of the TV without also adjusting
the volume of JFW. The dongle doesn't have a model number on it that I
can find, otherwise I'd include it.

What I would like to know is. When using Nero to make a copy of a cd that
you own or have borrowed or whatever when you are selecting your speed for
it to burn at witch is the best speed to use? What I mean is when you are
setting Nero up to copy the disc and it is an audio cd. When you get to
 the
place where you can select the speed for your drive to burn at like 48 x
 32
24 16 witch one is best to select or doesn't it matter? Also is there a
loss in the sound of the audio on the copy of the disk that you just made
 or
does using one speed over another give you better sound quality for your
copied cd? Just wanting to know cause I am burning a lot of disks today
 and
would like to get it done with the best quality that I can. So I will
 look
forward to reading any replies that come across the list on this. Thanks
 to
everyone in advance for any assistastance that I might get on this.

Re: Mp3directcut tutorial

2007-08-25 Thread Kenneth Suratt
MP3 Clip

MPE Clip allows you to split mp3 files into tracks. For example, to split
one MP3 file into 3 files, the first minute of the song, then the middle 45
seconds,
then the last minute of a song.

You can use it with winamp and you have to have both programs running at the
same time. Run winamp and have the song loaded, but not playing yet. Then
start
MP3 Clip. Tab to the load button and enter. This opens a typical open file
dialog, locate the the same song you loaded in winamp and press enter. Then
tab to the set button. This opens a typical save dialog, tell the program
what to call the split file and what folder to save it in. It will then add
the
track numbers automatically. For example where it wants a file name, if you
put in TestSong and you split the MP3 into 3 parts, they would become
TestSong0.mp3,
TestSong1.mp3 and so on.

Now alt tab back to winamp and start the song playing. Now alt tab back to
the MP3 Clip program. Anytime you want to split the song, enter on the grab
winamp
time button. You can do that and split the file as many times as you want.
When you're done Press control S for the start button and MP3 Clip will do
the
rest. It doesn't give you any indication it is finished, but it doesn't take
long, so wait and go check the folder where you told MP3 Clip to put the
saved
tracks.

Control tab to find the MP3Join Tab dialog and options. Enter on the set
button and this opens a typical save dialog, tell the program what to call
the
joined file and what folder to save it in. Enter on the Add file button and
continue adding all the files you wish to join. When ready, press control S
for start.

Re: recording with cdex.

2007-08-17 Thread Kenneth Suratt

CDex Version 1.51

This is a great little program that can do several things, plus, it is very
easy to use. Another good plus to this program is that you need no scripts
or
anything to make it work with Jaws for Windows. You can use the program to
rip music files from a CD, convert existing sound files to MP3 files, and
record
audio from an external device through your line in jack on the back of your
system. You will find step by step instructions on how to do all of the
following,
plus how to set the program up after installing it below. If you haven't yet
downloaded the program and installed it on your system, then just hit enter
on the following link to download
Cdex 1.51.

How to for Cdex 1.51

Setting up the program for the first time
Selecting a bit rate for ripping
Creating a file format for ripping
Ripping music files from a CD
Selecting multi files from a CD
Selecting all files from a CD
Converting wav files to MP3 or MP3 files to Wav
Recording from a external device

Setting up the program for the first time

There are a few settings that must be set once the program is installed.
Follow the below steps to set the program up and get it ready to use.
1. Start the program and hit F4 to open the Cdex configuration dialog box.
2. By default you are on the encoder tab. Control tab until you hear, remote
CDDB tab.
3. Tab once and you should hear, your email address: edit. Enter your email
address.
4. Tab about four times until you hear, auto connect to remote CDDB checkbox
not checked. Hit the space bar to check the checkbox.
5. Now control tab until you hear, file names tab.
6. You should be automatically put in the file name format edit box. This is
where you can choose how your file name is created using things like artist
name, album name, track number and etc. If you plan on ripping Music from a
CD, then this is where you tell Cdex how you want your file names created.
Below is what each %Number stands for and some examples. You can either
leave it the way it is with the default setting, use one of the examples, or
create
your own.

Here is what each %Number stands for:
%1, artist name
%2, Album name
%3, track #
%4, track name (song title)
%5, CD volume ID
%6, CDDB ID
%7, track # leading 0
%8, total # of tracks
%Y, album year
%G, genre
\, can be used to specify folder directories

Some Examples using the above items:
%1\%2\%7-%4 (default), creates the following output, Artist folder\Album
folder\track # starting with 0-track name.wav or MP3.
%1\%2\%4 creates the following output, Artist folder\Album folder\Track

%1\%1-%4 creates the following output, artist folder\Artist name-track
name.wav or MP3.
7. Tab two times and you will be in an edit box with a directory. This is
the directory where your wav and MP3 files will be saved. To change the
directory
just hit enter on the directory name and it will bring up a computer tree
view. Use your up and down arrows to navigate the tree view, and the right
and
left arrows to open folders. Once you are where you want wav files to be
saved, tab to the okay button and hit enter.

Selecting a bit rate for ripping

The bit rate is the quality at which you will rip the songs from the CD.
The default bit rate is 128, but you can select any bit rate between 32 kbs
and
320 kbs. For ripping audio tracks from a CD, I would recommend 128 kbs or
above. Most people use anywhere from 128 kbs to 192 kbs. To change the bit
rate for ripping, do the following:

1. Open the CDex program.
2. Hit f4 to bring up the configuration dialog box.
3. You should land in the encoder page, but if not hit control tab until you
are in the encoder page.
4. Tab four to five times until you hear, bit rate combo box 128 kbs.
5. Now you can arrow up and down to change the bit rate to whatever you
like.
6. Tab to the OK button and hit the space bar. Your done!

Creating a file format for ripping

This is where you can choose how your file name is created using things like
artist name, album name, track number and etc. If you plan on ripping Music
from a CD, then this is where you tell Cdex how you want your file names
created. Below is what each %Number stands for and some examples. You can
either
leave it the way it is with the default setting, use one of the examples, or
create your own.

To change the file format:
1. Start up CDex.
2. Hit f4 to bring up the configuration dialog box.
3. Hit control tab until you are

Subject: Soundforge7: MP3 codec problem

Hi. My First post to this list.

As subject says, I'm using Sony Sound Forge 7. Little did I realise
the MP3 codec or whatever it is must be registered after so many uses.
The problem? The computer SF7's is on is not connected to the
 internet at present.

So, my question is: can anyone think of an interim solution to doing
conversions of MP3 to wave files, and vice versa? Might it be
possible to (temporarily) use a free MP3 codec, or will Sound Forge
not like that! (I've no objection in principle to registering, just
cannot do this at the moment as just explained.

Obviously, I do have an internet connected PC on which I'm sending
this message, so downloading to this machine is of course possible.

 Little bit about myself.
Living in the UK, my audio work is with local talking newspaper, some
aural history work, a little live music recording, plus some
transcription work. So far used Sound Forge 7 but I'm considering
buying Studio Recorder. Intend upgrading to SF9 as soon as money
permits, as I'd find the multi-track-multi-channel facility useful.

 Look forward to replies.

 Hello,
I was wondering if anyone on here could assist me. I am the part-owner

primarily for tourist information, one of my responsibilities is putting
together the overnight programming, which consists of OTR shows played
back-to-back. I'm using SoundForge 8.0B for this process, and, being a
neophyte to the world of digital audio editing, am having some challenges.
Are there any current JAWS tutorials for SoundForge? I've seen one for
SoundForge 4.5, but am unable to figure out where to purchase it online.
as well, I'm wondering if that tutorial is still worthwile, considering
 8.0 is the current version.
On a similar note, I've been having difficulties in pasting my programs
together. What I intend to do is collect each night's list of shows (along
with my intros) into a single MP3 file, for our main computer system to
run. However, it seems that whenever I attempt to paste these shows
together, SoundForge crashes and has to be restarted. My theory is that
I'm somehow interrupting the paste process with keystrokes, but I have no
way of knowing when the operation has completed (Insert+page down gives me
a status message, but when I hit the spacebar to start playback, the
program often crashes). Does anyone on hear have any tips on making this
 process work smoother?
Thanks very much.

One way around this is to convert to MP3 using Sound Taxi and then
transferring the MP3 file. You could also burn each part to an audio CD
and then rip the CD to an MP3 file.

 Hello, list,

I have recently begun downloading and listening to Overdrive books
through my local talking book library. I was under the impression
that the 2 week check out time limit did not apply to placing a book
on a player with a WMA DRM license. However, I have found that the
Overdrive Console is the only way to transfer a book's files to an
MP3 player and it, too, tracks the experation date.
So, is there a way around this or was I mistaken about no time limit
 for transfering?
 Thanks,

 Hi

A member of this list wanted the jaws scripts for Sound Taxi to be able
 to
verify the percentage status of converted files on the press of a
 keystroke.
This is now included within the scripts if you go and get them again.
 This
can be verified with F8 at any time.

In addition, there is an automatic percentage count feature. This can be
enabled or disabled with F9. The setting is remembered across windows
sessions. If enabled, periodically you will hear a percentage count as
 the
file is being converted and you are advised when the conversion is
 complete.
If you switch to another application, and return to Sound Taxi, the
 percentage count is resumed.

I was using Nero, but it seems incompattible with projects edited in SF.
When I try to burn such a project in Nero, I get the following error. CD

 this

projects edited in Sound Forge. Nero has no problem with projects edited

needed for Audio CD equals CDR-RW. CD in burner equals CDR. Note that this
is for an audio CD. Also, please note that this problem occurs only with
projects edited in Sound Forge. Nero has no problem with projects edited
 in
GoldWave, DC6, or WavePad. Anyone care to have a go at helping me solve
 this
 issue?

Hi. I always, always go to:

http://www.whitestick.co.uk/download.html, which is a direct link to
the download page. It is written and operated by a blind person, so
 accessibility is guaranteed.
So save that page to your favorites so that when a new version of a
program comes out, you can just visit the page and get it.

As far as Pacemaker goes, it's a plugin which allows you to speed up,
and slow down the speed, pitch, and tempo of a file you might be
playing. This seems to work best on mp3s, for some reason it seems
to choke on other file types like ogg. so if you ever wanted to
listen to a file really fast, or really slow, that's the plugin to
use. Personally, i'm still using version 1.32 of Pacemaker, I'm sure
other versions have been released since, but it works on my system,
so I figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hi List,
I found the download link for Winamp, however, there isn't the

 www.winamp.com
are there any other accessible sites where the player can be
 downloaded?
What is PaceMaker, and does it work with all versions of Winamp?

 Hi,

Don't forget the $59 c crane fm transmitter. I have two and
consider them two of my most estute investments. I have a wireless
keyboard, so I can control my computer anywhere in my home or on the
deck. Any radio provides audible feedback, and I have several
stationed around my house. I can read email in bed! I control
xmpcr, winamp playlists, and can sit on the deck with a cup of coffee
and enjoy listening to the new york times. If needed, the c crane
 phone number is:
 800 522 8863

The transmitter runs on batteries or ac adapter. Batteries last for
a really long time. That means you can take one along with an mp3
player and listen on a car radio! Pretty cool!

Another option if you have the cash is Broadcast Warehouse. You can set
the
frequency on the front of their units.

Yes check out the 100 milliwat unit if you're looking to transmit just
around your immediate living area. The only issue with this unit is
  you
will need to have someone help you set the frequency. Once that is
  done
  however you should be set.

Gordon, Especially since you're in the UK, I would definitely give
  the
Veronica transmitters a look. They're stable, sound great and while
  they
  are
kit sets, for a fee the company will assemble it for you.

  Hi
Can anyone suggest a good quality robust wireless transmitter?
I bought 2 small fairly inexpensive wireless transmitters recently
  (now
legal in UK) to 1. tTake sound from my computer's soundcard and
  broadcast
this into the fm band of my new Sony DVD player 5.1 system.
  2. To broadcast Sky from the box throughout my house for each VHF
  radio
  to
  pick up.
(Both transmitters are at different buildings) I probably got what I
  paid
for. Both transmitters do work but sometimes slightly distorted,
  suggesting
not a strong enough range. There is also a fairly strong hum in the
background, I hasten to add which is not in the original.

I'm looking for something which gives good quality, as good as normal
  sound
on VHF. Any suggestions from your own experience?
  Thanks.
