We all know what happened to AM stereo. The consumer will ultimately determine whether DAB is going to take off or not. I honestly can't see people running out to buy new receivers. What you will see is that there will be a move to the FM band with all stations gradually converting over to DAB. There will be no need for announcers on a fulltime bases, as song title, artist, and other information will be displayed on a screen in much the same format as is being used with XM and Sirious. I can see commercial content going this way as well, as many of us see commercials as an intrusion as apposed to providing a service Talk radio will survive, but the future of commercial music stations looks bleak. The shift is towards downloading of MP3 files, and blog newscasts. With digital broadcasting it will be possible for you to customize the delivery of information according to your needs. If you want to hear the 8:00 AM news at 8:15 that will be possible simply by entering an assigned code on a keypad. You will probably have a choice on who will deliver the news to your receiver. The possibilities are limitless. Another plus is that you will be able to listen to NPR from coast to coast without missing a beat. You will simply move from one cell to another, and the radio will do that for you automatically. . - Original Message - From: Dave Marthouse [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, May 27, 2006 3:30 PM Subject: Re: broadcasting question The reason why lots of am stations are tailoring their audio response to 5KHZ is to make room for the IBOC signal. The transmitters that do analog and IBOC have a setting for 5KHZ which is what their analog signal gives you when they are using IBOC. Engineers tell me that they are going to that because everyone else is and they say it's good enough. There is no hearing advantage to the 5KHZ audio, just tech advantages from what I can tell. Designed from the start with screen readers in mind, this new conference client is a delight to use. Installation is a snap and the sound quality in the chat rooms is a pleasure to listen to. The user has full control of the amount of information they wish to receive by using the settings available to customize your preferences. Like to play music in a room for your friends? How about a room that allows them to hear your music in full Stereo. There's no need to install a special program to allow you to change your settings to play music. You may now set up the client to do this with a couple of keystrokes, and in most cases the client will do this for you automatically. These are only a few of the many features you will find in this outstanding new client which we invite you to come try for yourself. Our congratulations and appreciation go out to Barry Jennings, designer and developer of Vip Communicator without whose ingenuity, skill and generosity this would not have been possible. Please feel free to pass this on to other lists you may be on. http://www.vipconduit.comwww.vipconduit.com Regards Steve Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype: steve1963 MSN Messenger: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This list is a service of MosenExplosion.com. boot camp, read everyone
More and more people are buying and loving Macs. To make this choice simply irresistible, Apple will include technology in the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard, that lets you install and run the Windows XP operating system on your Mac. Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today. As elegant as it gets Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP without moving your Mac data, though you will need to bring your own copy to the table, as Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows.(1) Boot Camp will burn a CD of all the required drivers for Windows so you don't have to scrounge around the Internet looking for them. System Manager Optional alt. At startup, hold down the option key (alt) to choose between Mac OS X and Windows. Run XP natively Once you've completed Boot Camp, simply hold down the option key at startup to choose between Mac OS X and Windows. (That's the alt key for you longtime Windows users.) After starting up, your Mac runs Windows completely natively. Simply restart to come back to Mac. What you'll need List of 7 items . Mac OS X Tiger v10.4.6 (check Software Update) . The latest Firmware update (check Support Downloads) . 10GB free hard disk space . An Intel-based Mac . A blank recordable CD . A printer for the instructions (You'll want to print them before installing Windows, really.) . A bona fide installation disc for Microsoft Windows XP, Service Pack 2, Home or Professional (No multi-disc, upgrade or Media Center versions.) list end The Boot Camp course Boot Camp Public Beta provides a straightforward means of letting your Mac run Windows. Here's how it works: Intuitive partitioning. Space maker. Meet the most elegant hard drive utility ever. List of 6 items . First, you need to make sure your Intel-based Mac has the latest version of Mac OS X and the latest firmware update. These provide technologies that make Boot Camp possible. It's also wise to print out the Installation Setup Guide. . The Boot Camp burns a CD with the drivers Windows needs to recognize Mac-specific hardware. It is very important to do this before starting the Windows installation. . The software also helps you set aside hard drive space for the Windows installation, without moving any of your Mac files around. Just drag the intuitive slider to choose the size that's right for you. Boot Camp also helps you remove the Windows partition, should you so desire. . Next, insert your Windows installation disc, restart and follow the Windows installation process. The only tricky part is selecting the C: drive manually. Be sure to get this right, or you could erase your Mac files accidentally. Remember, Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows. . After the installation process is complete and your Mac has booted Windows, you'll need the Macintosh Drivers CD you burned previously. When you insert the CD, it will automatically install the drivers. Follow the instructions in the Installation Setup Guide for helpful hints. . Don't forget to follow best practices for updating and protecting your Windows system (see Word to the wise to right). list end List of 1 items 1. You'll need Windows XP Home Edition or Professional, Service Pack 2 installation disc. list end Included Amenities For your convenience, Boot Camp burns a CD with all the Mac-specific drivers for Windows: List of 7 items . Graphics . Networking . Audio . AirPort wireless . Bluetooth . The Eject key (on Apple keyboards) . Brightness control for built-in displays list end This CD also installs a Startup Disk control panel for Windows. To find it, look for Startup Disk in the Performance and Maintenance section of the Windows XP Control Panel. See the Installation Setup Guide for more details. Using Windows on a Mac Mac hardware operates differently from PCs, and this public beta does not support all features of the Mac in Windows. Learn more about running Windows on a Mac. Mac OS X Leopard Developers can learn all about the sixth major release of Mac OS X this century at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference, to be held August 7-11 in San Francisco. EFI and BIOS Macs use an ultra-modern industry standard technology called EFI to handle booting. Sadly, Windows XP, and even the upcoming Vista, are stuck in the 1980s with old-fashioned BIOS. But with Boot Camp, the Mac can operate smoothly in both centuries. Word to the Wise Windows running on a Mac is like Windows running on a PC. That means it'll be subject to the same attacks that plague the Windows world. So be sure to keep it updated with the latest Microsoft Windows security fixes. cool edit pro is a very nice sound editing software. if they are still using cool edit pro, then they are a little out of date, and it must be normal for radio stations to not have the most up-to-date software; all the radio stations around here are using cool edit pro still. anyways, I dont happen to have the scripts on hand, but i just want to inform you that yes, with jaws scripts the cool edit pro software is very accessible. you said your doing this in studio, do they have jaws? and what did you say you were going to edit? - Original Message - From: Kerry [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. It does not yet have all of Sound Forge's features, but we are only on the very first beta release at this point, and I would like all of your feedback on how I could improve the interface. I am a JAWS user myself, so I have tried to make the interface to the application as accessible as possible. You will not need JAWS scripts to make use of the program's features; the program will communicate it's information to JAWS without any other files needing to be installed. This program is also a lot faster than Sound Forge in terms of saving files, etc. It includes features such as changing pitch, reverb, noise reduction (coming in next beta), etc. It can currently save in MP3, WMA, OGG and Real Media formats. More support is coming soon and people will be able to write plug-ins to support other formats if they wish. If you would like to try it out, you can go to http://audiomagic.roachhost.com and download the latest beta version from there. You can read the user's guide and other documentation after you've got the program installed. Documentation will also be available online by the time the final product is released. You can read the user's guide and other documentation after you've got the program

I almost gave up on it at one time, but I saved the audio file and set Winamp to repeat until I got the letters figured out. Once you've been finalized as a Pay Pal member you will be able to complete transactions with no problem with any screen reader. A word about signup; what they will do is deposit a small amount, less than a dollar if I remember correctly, into your bank account. Once your bank accepts the transaction you will then be validated with Pay Pal as legitimate and from then you'll be able to take advantage of all their services. I bought a metal case from Radio Shack and had it mounted. You'll probably want to either buy it mounted or mount it yourself because it is very sensitive to contact such as bumping on a crowded desk. Mine is the older model with two leads as an antenna. It has quite a range, being heard at the end of our block. Now that it is encased it hasn't drifted once. No one has ever complained in all this time; and just about anyone in the neighborhood would know where to complain if they did. Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, February 19, 2006 9:36 PM Subject: Windows Media Puzzle Hi there, Perhaps someone can explain something to me. Do you remember how a couple of weeks ago, I asked about two things regarding Windows Media Player? One of them dealt with being able to stream almost every other website with content using Media Player, except for one which I had been able to stream with no problem a few days before. Well, I had taken my laptop and had gone to that site again from another place, and low and behold, it worked fine. There were no problems. But, I brought it back home and attempted to listen to it here, and it wouldn't work again. I tried the experiment once more, and got the same results. Can someone explain this to me? It's odd. I used to have a lot of respect for norton, but over the years they've just become more and more bloated. Rick - Original Message - From: Jouie [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'PC audio discussion list. The game is a Racing game and it's called Top Speed2. The idea is you have your keyboard or a stearing wheel and you race around tracks. The sound of the cars is most Realistic and there are plenty of ad on cars and tracks. You also can either host a server for 7 of your friends to play on or log in to a server that's being hosted. If your in to sports you will most deffinately enjoy this one. You'll play this game for hours. Now the cost you ask? Well the fine developers in the Netherlands who wrote this game have decided to give it away completely free of charge. You can go to: http://playinginthedark.net and download the game and all the extra tracks and ad ons. Also you can learn how to design your own racing cars and tracks and a few blind people have already done this. Try this freeware game. I think you'll be most impressed. Using winamp is probably the fastest unless you are comfortable in renaming files after they already have extentions. Doris New Winamp Security Vulnerability Tech News: Nullsoft has just released an update to Winamp aimed at fixing a serious security vulnerability that opened up systems to remote attack. The company posted version 5.13 of the media player online on Monday after Secunia and other security companies issued alerts about the problem. Malicious software exploiting the extremely critical flaw was already circulating on the Internet, according to Secunia's advisory. A security researcher by the nickname of Kozan discovered the flaw in the Winamp 5.12 that can be exploited to compromise a user's system. Proof of concept code was published last Sunday. An attacker could exploit the flaw through a specially crafted playlist file. Upon opening the file, the flaw results in a buffer overflow, allowing the attacker to launch applications and take over control of a system. The vulnerability effectively allows the attacker to turn the computer into a zombie system or steal data from the system's hard drive. Even though the security company gave the vulnerability its highest rating for software threats, it noted that the number of people who use Winamp has declined over the years, so the scope of the problem is not as large as it once might have been. Winamp used to be the world's most popular MP3 player and is still quite popular, but as Windows Media Player has gotten better, some users have migrated over, said Thomas Kristensen, Secunia's chief technology officer, to CNETnews.com. Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, January 30, 2006 5:39 PM Subject: Re: cool edit Hi Michael Unfortunately I'm not on Skype - I think I'll have to move onto something like that soon but I've not investigated it yet. Where are you based? Perhaps a phone call would be possible. as far as I understand your question I think the way to do this is to go into the multitrack mode, load your instrumental file into tracks one and two (assuming it's stereo). Unless you've a complicated set of outputs on your soundcard it's probably that all the tracks will be outputting to the same channel, so your instrumental tracks will come through along with the track you're about to record, let's say, track 3. Assuming you're using the Jaws scripts, when you go into multitrack mode (view menu toggle between it and edit view), you should choose track 3 by arrowing down to it. When on it you then use the tab key to go through a series of options, e.g. mute, arm, output, input, etc. When you arrive on 'Arm' just press enter - jaws should not only tell you when you'reon the arm setting, but when you press enter on it it will change from 'no' to 'yes'. You can now record on that track while listening to all three tracks through the output on your soundcard. Of course you'll only get sound from the microphone if you've set the input to the correct soundcard input and switched on the microphone option on the volume settings. (For this see Control Panel, Sounds, the audio tab, record volume settings - you need to tab round here to microphone and select the microphone as your recording device. Just tick the select box.) Just use the standard record functions to make this work - control and space and control and s to stop. Playing as usual is just with the space bar. Hopefully I'm not telling you what you know already. Hope this helps. Regards. Gordon - Original Message - From: Michael Babcock [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list.
