Getting Re-acquainted With My EdirolR09

2009-08-17 Thread PamDrake
Hello, All!

Dave and I will be leaving this Sunday for a special, once-in-a-lifetime
trip to Europe where we will spend three-and-a-half weeks with friends in
Britain, possibly my relatives in Ireland, and Dave's brother-in-law touring
Switzerland, France, and Germany. We will be spending several days in
Madrid before returning home.

Ok, what does this have to do with audio? Well, I obviously want to get as
many good recordings as I possibly can. I bought the Edirol R09 a couple of
years ago and had some success with it but put it away for a time. I have
now forgotten a lot about it, and understand there has been at least one
update since I bought the unit.

About a year ago someone on a list, I believe this one, posted information
about the update and was very excited about encouraging other blind people
to use it despite some of its less than accessible features.

I would love to know if anyone remembers this post, and would also
appreciate a source for the downloaded update. I checked edirol.com but
seemed to find myself in a list of links containing ads for everything from
computer software to mortgages. Not now!

I would appreciate any information anyone can provide.

As always, thanks in advance.

Pam

RE: Woodstock commemoration

2009-08-14 Thread PamDrake
I probably caused this rumor. I confused it with another message about a
presentation on ABC Australia. ACB and ABC look too much alike at 4:00 AM
especially after spending over an hour composing an e-mail in Spanish.
  Sorry!

Pam

I'd sure like to know who started the rumor about that special being
65 hours long! I'm on the bloody staff and wasn't even told about
this one! HAHHAHHAHHAH!

Replying To Questions: Was RE: Woodstock commemoration

2009-08-14 Thread PamDrake
Amie and List,

I thought about posting privately but decided to post here in case there are
new people on board who might be interested in the answer. Apologies to the
veteran listers among us.

This is my personal opinion. When I ask a question and get a ton of "I
don't know but you can try this" messages it frustrates me. There is one
other list which I will not name where a lister I will not name is
constantly launching into his ideas about what blind people don't know,
should know, and what he sees is the problem with such questions, often
after stating he doesn't know the answer.

I, for one, try to work out my problems and if I ask for help it is likely
that I haven't been able to figure out the answer. The last thing I want is
a lecture on how I may not have tried hard enough or how we as a class need
more training. Some people think this is fine and serves as a learning tool
but I for one often don't ask because I don't want to deal with this person.
Some people have written me privately because they also don't want to get
into this kind of discussion. That's another option: when in doubt you
might want to write privately to the questioner. How to do this may depend
on what e-mail program you're using.

I would rather just let the question go by without answering if I don't know
the answer, or at least be sure that if I give a possible answer I label it
as a possibility that has a good chance of success.

Also, I changed the subject line here because the subject no longer had
anything to do with the Woodstock discussion. This is also considered good
procedure on mailing lists because the reader can tell whether or not the
message he/she is about to open really is related to the subject line. We
all forget this little piece of good conduct now and then.

Hope this helps.

Pam

Hi Pam and list
I'm new too, so still learning the ropes of this list. I'm never sure
whether it's more annoying to ignore a question if you don't know the
answer, or to reply, sending the whole list a message saying you don't know.
If everyone on every list did this, just to show they weren't being rude or
unfriendly, we'd have mighty packed in-boxes. What's the politest thing to
do, does anyone have a view?
Cheers
Amie

RE: Woodstock commemoration

2009-08-14 Thread PamDrake
Hello!

In case you have not been made aware of this by now, the Woodstock
Commemoration was a radio program presented by Steve Matzura, a regular
presenter and member of the ACB Radio Staff and this list. This was not
spam. You may find notices of such ACB Radio programs on all channels, and
because it is both computer and audio related it is appropriate to post
here. I'm not scolding, just informing.

Sometimes it may take a while to get an answer to a question but chances are
that if you don't get one there isn't one or perhaps your request has gotten
lost in cyberspace, which also happens given the nature of the Internet and
the sometime foibles of listservs.

As for the Facebook and other messages, unfortunately PC-Audio gets its
share of unrelated postings, sometimes mistakenly sent by a poster who
forgets to check the reply field before posting. The moderators are alert
and attempt to stop inappropriate or off-topic messages wehn they occur but
it's a tough job. You couldn't pay me to be a mod!

I hope this explains a little and corrects any false impression you may have
received from one spam and one misunderstood message on the day you joined.

Pam

Mathew, these Face Book invites are increasingly being seen on lists and in
my
personal messages - all from people I have no real link with or knowledge
of.

I think when people join FB it simply offers to link to their address book
and
so everyone gets a message.

to my mind being a "friend" on Face Book is pretty meaningless.

Yes, this list does have a lot of genuine traffic, so hold in here.

Just a couple of questions. I joined the list today and am wondering if this
is a low, medium, or high traffic list. So far I've received 2
advertisements from facebook and some ACB Woodstock thing. I posted a
question and didn't here back from more than a single individual. By the
way, thanks for the hint as I raised my volume and looks like the volume in
my recordings is also good. Hoping someone will respond with their
experience on this list.

I thought I had a source for this program but can't find it in my saved

be appropriate. Is it difficult to learn?

RE: (Possibly O.T)Does anyone have a URL for theACBCoonventionNetcast?

2009-07-05 Thread pamdrake
Mac,

I would imagine Steve will be anchoring Interactive along with Kevin Minor
from around 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern time. They're a little short-handed
this year and today I didn't hear much in the way of interviews. Today's
music isn't necessarily Dave's or my cup of tea so we switched off. I hope
there will be more interviews as the week goes on. The times I'm giving are
approximate based on past years' convention schedules.

You might look for the convention 2009 link on the ACB Radio site and
hopefully the schedule will be more clearly defined.

Someone else told me that it was up on Mainstream; is that the only feed
that will be there? You mentioned Interactive -- will that be another? A
friend, Steve Mitzura, said he would be "anchoring", but, I just haven't
tuned in at the right times, I guess!

Thanks,

2009-07-05 Thread pamdrake
It was yesterday but the general session didn't start till today so the only
stream that should have been happening and didn't was the Interactive
stream. They simulcast with Deb and Rick Lewis for most of the day.

The general sessions should be streamed the rest of the week and repeated
when the convention is not in session unless there are particular workshops
streamed live.

A Question About the Below Message Regarding A Winamp Plugin

2008-10-19 Thread pamdrake
Tonight we have been listening to The Oldies Project from London found at
 .
I was getting ready to leave the site when I noticed the following message
on the site page, which I have pasted below. Because I'm using plain text
for composing messages, links in this message will not show up as such in
the pasted data.

The OldiesProject broadcast is encoded in MP3PRO stereo mode for superb
audio quality.
'The Next generation MP3' as geeks call it. To experience the MP3PRO mode
you need
WinAmp and a MP3PRO plugin. You'll find it
here
.

Just download the plugin installer to your harddrive, install, reboot WinAmp
and
click the WinAmp logo on this site again.
The default install of the MP3PRO plugin for WinAmp disables the 'Now
Playing' option
in Winamp. Just open WinAmp, go to Preferences (cntrl+p) and look for the
section
'Input Plugins'. There you'll find the Thompson MP3PRO plugin. Just double
click
to open the optionbox and enable Title Streaming.
If you need any help just 'google' around or send us an
e-mail
.
Oldies Project

This seems clear enough; but I'm wondering whether there are any conflicts
between this Thompson plugin and screen readers. I seem to recall a problem
between a Thompson plugin and Winamp several years ago, and don't want to
make a mistake here.

Thanks for any help.

Pam
