These procedures would have been more interesting to me in the old days
when I only had one player in addition to the Audible Manager that would
play Audible files. Now that I have four players, including my N82 cell
phone, that will play Audible content, I wouldn't go to all that trouble.

The old version of audible manager and goldwave will still work but there
are 2 conditions-

1. the old version of audible manager must be the only version of
audible

manager on the computer.

2. the files must be in the normal format, i.e., 1 through 4 etc. The
new

format audible is promoting can't be decoded (that figures, doesn't it?)

What doesn't work is that you can't download using the old version of
audible.

That means that you will have to download the files on one computer using
the newer version of audible manager and set up the old version of
audible
manager on a second computer and transfer the files to that computer to
be

decoded.

It is an annoyingly cumbersome process but it is doable and you get the
best

sound quality possible using goldwave.

It used to be that you could download an Audible file using an old
version

of Audible Manager, and then decode it using Goldwave.
I don't think that old version of Audible Manager works any more, so I
was

wondering if there is still a way to decode these files.

It does have Bluetooth, a FM radio, 4 GHZ internal memory and USB 2.0, at
least the pricier model does, the standard model only boasts USB 2.0. The
booksense also because it is a newer player and can take advantage of
newer designs in memory that weren't around when the Stream was designed
has a clock, supports recording in .mp3 and .wav formats, can play .AAC
and enhanced audible files and is promising to be able to play .wma
protected files. This might be true, although it can't do it yet and
every other player out there including the Victor Reader Stream has
promised this at one time or other.

doesn't stop using battery time even when it is switched
off, the stream shuts off completely.

High Garry,
Have you tried using another audio file converter?
I use Switch to convert audio files from one format to another.
Mostly, I convert them to MP3's so that I can put them on my cell phone.
I have it sat to normal stereo and constant bit rate for highest quality
sound.
This is just a suggestion that I thought mite help you solve your problem.
My best regards.

The problem I'm having is that my system won't produce regular stereo.
Everything comes out in joint and variable bit rate regardless of software
settings. It's Winamp which I'm using to tell me what my stats on a
particular file happen to be. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

My understanding is that joint stereo is a psychoacoustic trick to try and
make lower bit rate encoded files sound better in terms of their channel
separation. I don't believe the monoblock analogy is strictly correct. All
the advice I have seen is to use normal stereo for decent encoded files at
bit rates of 192kbps and higher and only use the joint stereo psychoacoustic
trick on very poor files encoded at lower bit rates.

High George,
Joint stereo is, like you have a pare of speakers, but you have a mono block
amplifier on each one.
Regular stereo, is having those same pare of speakers hooked up to a stereo
amplifier.
The joint stereo, gives better stereo channel separation then the regular
stereo.
Hope this helps.

I found the software that comes with the dm-520 pretty accessible. A few
things are slightly trickey but for the most part it works fine with Jaws
11. I'm only having trouble with the sound editor. Not sure how to
select

regions with the keyboard.

The options dialog needs the Jaws cursor.

I would guess, in the absence of no hard comparative data, that
the

audio
recording quality of the Pocket is quite a bit better than is the
Olympus
DS-71, which I do have.

I find the Olympus, across a range of external mics does have a
degree of
background hiss (preamp noise or circuit noise). This is the case
when set
to wave recording and manual mic input levels.

Also, The Olympus doesn't actually have a line in, only a mic in
port, so I
am curious about line in
