Re: recording my voice

2008-01-20 Thread Shaun Oliver
that's a little like asking how long is a piece of string I suppose, but
you need to take into consideration what you want from the software. do
you need multitrack capabilities? do you want midi capabilities as well?
there's many and varied possibilities. cubass and sonar imho are great
but I do also use cool edit for when I simply want to put together
voiceovers and audio grabs.

 Hi everyone,

I am new to the list, but I'm learning a lot.

I would like to make a recording of my voice; rather, a demo so I can

make this recording, and then burn a cd for shopping my demo?

Re: Accessible Sirius Receiver Suggestions Please?

2007-10-16 Thread Shaun Oliver
it shouldn't be too hard to modify a vs1 or vs2 board or whatever the
icom equivalent is. however, having said that, those boards I suspect
have a preset number of characters and words and numbers in their
lexicon. it may even be simpler than that. however, that doesn't mean
something can't be gerry rigged.

Bob Seed wrote:

I don't think that you are going to find a satellite receiver with speech
output. The particular unit that I have is pretty straight forward, and the
buttons are raised and are in a straight row at the bottom of the unit. They
appear as little dots that are easy to feel. There are long bar type buttons
on the front panel off to the left that perform other functions, and on the
boombox itself there is a cluster of raised buttons; volume up, volume down,
off, and mute. When you change channels you hear a little beep that tells
you that you are indeed changing channels. The Source has this particular
unit on sale for I believe to be $129. This of course, does not include the
boombox that the unit clips into. This is a good unit for people with low
vision, as the faunt on the display window can be changed. Ideally it would
be nice to have a unit that would tell you verbally what song is playing. I
am wondering if a speech device could be hooked up to the unit to read out
the information on the display window. I think that it is dooable. This
would be similar to the device that reads out the frequencies on ham radio
 equipment.

Don't under any circumstances reclass any of the controls.
You'll find it buggers up more than it helps. However, if it's anything
like sam broadcaster, hitting tab twice will get you to the results
screen. And performing a say current line will yeild results. All you
need to do to navigate through that window is use your up/down arrow

Hi Steve,

Thank you for taking the time to write this. I've got it
running right now, playing randomly, hearing an occasional Christmas
song, but sounds good. I've been able to find the history window and
see what has played. It seems that when you press escape the search
window opens. I type in a search string, but I'm unable to find the
list of songs that comes up, if indeed it does! A friend is visiting
this evening and so I'll have an opportunity to get the layout explained
to me. I was tempted to try and reclass some of the controls, but I
don't know where to start.

Where does one learn about the scripting language? I suppose
that it designs your playlists, adding id's, jingles, etc. I worked for
the phone company for 18 years as a programmer slash analyst, so I've
got lots of computer programming under my belt and should be able to
handle the scripting language if its not too complex.

So far, I'm quite impressed. I have been using ots jukebox for
my dejaying chores, but not all of my mp3's get converted to the ots
format, or get omx files created for them. It seems like sam just
imports all of the mp3's!

Rusty
At 07:08 PM 8/27/2007, Steve Matzura spake thusly:-
Hi, Rusty:

On Mon, 27 Aug 2007 09:18:05 -0400, you wrote:

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with sam party dj
using we 6.1? I've downloaded and installed the demo, which I
believe functions for fifteen days. I loaded my music into its data
base but do not know how to proceed. What is the playlist extension
in this program? Any tips as to how to get started?

I'm going out on a limb here and assuming two things: (1) Window-Eyes
6.1 is not substantially different than 5.5. (2) SAM Party DJ is not
significantly different from SAM Broadcaster, other than the obvious
point of not containing the broadcasting code. If the two above
statements are true, more or less, hopefully mostly more, then here are

a few things to get started.

1. After all your music is loaded, assuming your MP3 tags are good,
you can start playing randomly selected music simply by pressing F1.
F2 is pause, F3 is stop. F4 is next randomly chosen song. Shift F3
and Shift F4 are supposed to apply a fade before performing their
actions, but I haven't always seen this work right. Don't take that to

mean anything except that I probably screwed up when trying it.

2. The canned script that runs will play things from all your music
categories just to get you started so you can hear how SAM sounds. If
you want a specific category to play, you'll have to create your own
script to do this, or modify the default one. This is extremely easy
to do, and the script is really only one line long, you just have to do

a bit of studying to learn what the parameters to the category function

are, then you can write anything you want.

2. To add a song to the play queue manually, just scroll through the
list until you find the one you want, or start typing its title or
artist and the search panel will automatically open and find what
you're searching for. Note the various check boxes in the search panel

which can help you narrow or widen your search by just about anything
that appears in the MP3 tag specification. The neat thing about this
panel is that as you type, songs that match the checked search criteria

appear in a scrollable list. Enter as much search criteria as you
think you need, then tab to the scrollable list and select what you
want queued. The default action is to add to the top or front of the
queue by pressing ENTER. You can route the mouse pointer to the
scrollable list and right-click to see all the other options, which
include add to top of queue, add to bottom of queue, delete menu, and
others. When you're done with the search panel, press ESCAPE to close
it.

3. SAM playlists are not the same as Winamp playlists. In fact, I'm
really not sure what they're for or how they're used. I'll look into
this for you if you like on my SAM Broadcaster installation.

4. Without additional scripting, SAM will play forever, queueing one
song at a time to the play queue. There are ways, via the scripting
language they give you, to queue many songs, tell how long it will take

to play them, and perform other actions on songs and queues. But this
should be sufficient to get you started.

An additional tip: Keep as

2007-08-28 Thread Shaun Oliver
To a certain extent yes it will. Unfortunately for us, it uses a delfi
interface which means you'll get littlt to no access without doing some
jiggery pokery with jaws.
However, the playlist queue history and the like are accessible enough
to be able to navigate through them. There are keyboard shortcuts for
play/pause, stop fastforward press to talk and lock talk so no problems
there. Hth

RE: sam party dj

2007-08-28 Thread Shaun Oliver
Until you told me about the shift f11 thing, I had set up a frame for
clickint the lock talk button, and one for the mic on/off toggle.
However, where we run into trouble is unless you do a say line with
jaws, you got no idea where you are that is to say in the queue and
playlist scroll lists. That's a pain but it works well enough. The other
pain is the constant updating of information in the queue and the mp3
encoder list jaws will constantly speak it if it's highlighted so you
need to be careful with that also.
You just need to think outside the box with it is all.
Shaun.

I'd sure like to know what sorts of jp you were able to conjure up,
because I've just been flat-out unsuccessful with it. That's why I'm so
surprised how well Window-Eyes works with it without a single
customization.

any microfone that's capable of being plugged into your pc that you can

Bare in mind however, that this is by no means a solution for us as yet,
at least not a workable one.
You can barely navigate the desktop and open a couple of files with it.

High Anthony,
The sound cards for Mac systems already have the speech synthesizer belt
in to them.
Screen reading software is not needed in less you are going to install
some kind of a windows operating system on them.
The newer Mack systems can be used either way.
You can run them as PCs or you can run them as Macs.

 That is to much trouble.
I think the letters PC are suppose to mean personal computer.
If I can't do what I want to do on a Vista system right out of the
 box, then who needs it.
My job requires me to do a lot of things with digital audio
technology.
If Vista is going to hinder me from doing this, then I will spend my
money on a Mack O-X-X system.
Coming from a blind person's prospective, Macks are a hole lot user
 friendlier then PCs any way.
So I will go that rout if I have to.

New PC Software Restores Audio Recording Capabilities to Windows
 Vista for Free

Applian Technolgoies has just released a free, audio recorder that
works incredibly well with Windows Vista and XP. This recorder uses
revolutionary new recording technology which is sound card
independent. It can capture audio as MP3 files from virtually any
 application or internet stream.

San Anselmo, CA (PRWEB) August 20, 2007 -- Applian Technologies has
just released the Freecorder Toolbar Sound Recorder , a free audio
capture program for Windows Vista which restores the audio recording

functionality previously available in prior versions of Windows.
Using a new driverless recording process developed by Applian, the
software allows customers to capture audio as MP3 files from
virtually any application or internet stream. Freecorder Toolbar is
free, and available today from www.freecorder.com.

istorically, all PC's had sound card drivers with an easily
accessible recording line, and also allowed recording applications
to install custom sound card drivers. Today, the sound card drivers
that ship with Windows Vista rarely make a recording line available,

or if a sound card does have a recording line, that capability is
buried. And the new driver signing requirement of Windows Vista has
permanently disabled sound capture technologies that relied on
custom drivers. Before Freecorder Toolbar, it has been difficult or
impossible to capture audio in Windows Vista.

Internet audio or application-generated sound can now be saved by
everyone. And our convenient browser-based interface offers enhanced

search capabilities and other cool tools, all for free. Everyone
should have this great little recorder on their browser.
Freecorder Toolbar works inside both Internet Explorer and Firefox,
and offers simple one-button recording that saves everything you
hear from your PC speakers as either an MP3 or WAV file. It will
also record from the microphone or line-in inputs on your PC.
Additionally, Freecorder Toolbar includes a powerful Google-based
search, and optional browser enhancements like a radio tuner,
weather bug, pop-up blocker, search highlighter and more.

We are thrilled to be able to give consumers an easy-to-use
universal audio recorder that works great with Windows Vista and XP

Okay Jim,

Are you actually typing that? With the period in front of it which it
looks

like you have two periods which should only be one period. So there
might
be a mistake I will right it out for you and please try the command this
way.
./tools/configure

What you are actually doing on this step now that I see it Jim is okay
the script you need to run is under the Tools subdirectory that's what
the /tools is and the /configure is actually the command or script you
are running. The period in this case means a hidden file or folder.

Subject: FM Transmitters: Which One?

I'm becoming more and more interested in a simple FM transmitter that
will take output from a computer's sound card--such as something
streaming across the Net--and transmit this at low power to an FM
frequency of my choosing so the output may be heard throughout my
building.

I know these have come down in price, and there are lots of options.
Is there a place I can go to gain a good basic understanding of pros and
cons and of differences between brands? I want decent quality, and I
want something that will transmit on any FM frequency used widely in
North America, not just the low or high end of these bands.
And it would help if this is simple enough for someone totally blind to
use. The first I heard about these was on a C Crane advertisement, but
I'm sure their brand is not the only choice.

Price is a consideration, but I don't want junk that will need replacing
immediately, either. So I would pay a little more for reliability.

Thanks for any suggestions or reference links.
