I purchased in the United States, and as far as I can tell, no problems

Have you checked to see what sound device Winamp is set to use for output?
I won't touch MagicJack with a ten-foot pole after it installed its
proprietary sound drivers and wouldn't let me remove or alter them in any
way. I'd check under Preferences, Plug-ins, Output, and see what the
device is set to. Chances are probably pretty high that it's set to
attempt to play through the MagicJack rather than your regular sound card.

Re: Descriptive Video on Commercial DVDs and Downloads

2009-03-05 Thread Steve Robertson
Yah, I understand at least one of the reasons Nfb stopped descriptive video
here is that they objected to the fact that the little weather ticker at the
bottom of the screen was not read. While this would be something to work
for, I allways thought it was rather, pardon me, stupid to stop all
descriptive video, especially if when you hear the beeps indicating bad
wetehr you can allways turn on a weather radio or log on to your favorite
weather website or turn on a am or fm radio!

Subject: Descriptive Video on Commercial DVDs and Downloads

Hi, folks.

I'm probably about to ask a question that's painfully obvious to many.
But I'm showing up at the descriptive video/SAP party much later than
some. I'm writing to the JAWS list because I am a JAWS user. I'm
writing to the Blind iPod list because purchasing video content on
iTunes is now accessible through use of the J-tunes interface. So I
hope others view this question as at least somewhat relevant.

I'm presuming, first of all, that most Hollywood feature films on DVD
come with a descriptive video track encoded somewhere on them. I'm
presuming the same could be true with downloadable films and TV shows,
too, as from iTunes. Certainly, most DVDs representing TV programs
where action was described in the first place, should have that same
DVS output on the subsequent DVD release. If this is true, I'm
wondering about the following:

1. How can I be sure, if a film or TV show is downloaded, to get the
download version that has descriptive video encoded? Is there a good
source for such material? Is there a way I can know for sure about
this feature before I buy?

2. When playing such downloaded or DVD content on the computer, is
there a software player that is fairly accessible and which also has a
menu option I can invok for activating or turning off the
descriptions? I've not seen this in RealPlayer or Windows Media
Player, but maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

3. Am I being completely naive here? Obviously, I know a lot of
stuff isn't accessible on its face, and I realize legislation in front
of Congress is attempting to make much of this universal. I've heard
of some people going to a place like the Serotek network to download
versions of films that have been uploaded specifically for those
wanting video description. But is this truly necessary? Or can the
same content be obtained through regular channels with just a little
bit of work on the part of the blind consumer?

Just trying to get a handle on this issue, for my own benefit and for
others I may encounter.

Kind regards,

-Kane

2009-02-21 Thread Steve Robertson
Does anyone know of a small voice recorder that has folders capability and
also has the ability to append to a voice recording?

Thanks.

Re: voice recorders that append

2009-02-21 Thread Steve Robertson
Right now, I'm checking out the Olympus Recorders. It appears there is no
voice recorder that will allow me to append to a file once it's been saved.

Thanks for all of you who wrote on this topic.

But if you're just looking for a voice recorder, the Plextalk or the
Stream might be overkill, depending on the needs.

Subject: Batch Conversion With Sound Taxi

Can Sound Taxi or some other batch conversion program preserve the artist
and album folder structure when converting a batch of ripped CD's from WMA
lossless to MP3 format?

I bought Sound Taxi. And I have also tried Easy CD-DA Extractor. I
specify
the output target root folder. I select the artist folders in the
lossless

CD directory. When I perform the conversion, Sound Taxi says conversion
complete very quickly, but nothing happens. Easy CD-DA Extractor does
not

even enable the Convert option unless I drill down and specifically select
the .WMA files.

Is there a setting or procedure that will let me preserve the artist and
album folder structure when converting files in batch?

If not, do you know of another accessible program that will accomplish
this?

How do you convert a batch of ripped CD's for playing in an MP3 player?

Thanks for all help.\\Rob

I use a combination of Clone CD and Any DVD. Both are available from
Slysoft.com. You can make an exact copy of any CD either audio or data and
the same for any DVD. I also use Nero 7 to do most custome burning here.
Works just fine and I've heard that newer versions of Nero aren't as
accessible or easy to use so I'm sticking with what works for me. Hope
this helps.

Hi Pam,
Mundu Radio is a great application for Symbian phones which is
account-based. You create an account, and then add streams that you want to
listen to. You then load the app on your phone, login to the service, and
choose the station. Note: you need to choose 'Update Playlist' in the Radio
app to make sure the streams you have added show up, but once you've done
that, it works great! It even remembers what was the most recent station you
listened to when you login, along with I think around 5 recent stations in a
separate window.

There are a lot of listings here so if you don't have enough channels
this should surely get you started, or perhaps round out your
collection. Enjoy!

Hello list,
for any one interested, I put a list of Christmas and Holiday stations
that work with Mundu Radio below my message.
I have tested all of them and only one isn't working at this time. It
may be that the stream is temporarily unavailable.
I put a star/asterisc before the station to identify it.

I set up each line for ease of copying the station name and URL to the
clipboard to make things a bit less teadious.

Enjoy!

I have a bunch of completely legal CD's that I want to conver to
completely legal MP3's. Each disk is one track, so I don't have to worry
about choosing tracks or anything like that. Has anyone at least gotten,
in Easy CD-DA Extractor 12, the choose a location feature to work
correctly? I don't have the fabled version 9, and besides, I want to use
the new extraction engine in 12 to do this. I would use Exact Audio
Copy, but EAC does not like these disks. Anyone have any thoughts?

Easy Cd-cda audio extractor folder to extract to?

2008-10-24 Thread Steve Robertson
Hello listers.

I'm attempting to use version 11.5.3 and am having trouble designating what
drive and folder I'd like cds extracted to. Jaws just seems to get stuck in the
dialog for choosing the folder and clicking on that area with the Jaws cursor
doesn't seem to help, using Jas 10.0 beta, any suggestions?

Thanks!
