You do need other software to run it.
You need Rock Box, or Anapod.

Can you use the ipod all by yourself if you have no viision? Where did you
buy it from? Do you need extra software for accessibility?

Hi.
Ipods are tougher to get to use, depending on which ones you buy. Ipods and
mp3 players are the same thing, or rather, an Ipod is an mp3 player. I have
the Zen stone 2gb plus. I have like 50 podcasts on it with 0.6gb free still
yet.

Re: Ipods and MP3 players?

2008-04-23 Thread Jeffrey Dunn

Hi Lauren:

An Ipod is an Apple Branded MP3 player, the major difference prior
to the discussion of accessibility is the ability to play the aac
formated music on Itunes. AAC is the Apple proprietary format
for Ipods, though they will play and or convert to mp3 format.
With Rock Box, older Ipods can be made to speak and give
onesome usage of talking menus.

Mp3 players are varied in brand and features.

Now if you're looking for accessibility, you can find a great
number of folks getting Zen Stones from Creative as they
are rather in expensive. For the ultimate in accessibility you
can find used Bookports out there from APH, or the Victer Reader
Stream from Humanware.

Reviews of many players can be found on www.blindcooltech.com

I am very pleased with my Victer Reader Stream. It plays multiple
formats, it records quite well, all the features speak as
they had blind users in mind for the usage.
I forsee it having a long life, as one can purchase extra memory
cards which seem to be increasing in capacity and decreasing in price.

Hope this helps.

Jef

Ipods and MP3 players?

2008-04-23 Thread Lauren
Hi,

I'm relatively new and wonder is there a difference between an Ipod and a MP3
player?

Which ones are accessible by a totally blind person? Thanks.

Sincerely,

Lauren
