Re: QUICK MX

2004-08-10 Thread Brian Lewis
You don't really install it. You unzip it into the folder where you want it
and just run the quickmx program. There's a couple of text files and a .dll
file and the program file itself. I suggest starting Winmx first and then
running quickmx. Quickmx will start Winmx, but I've heard of problems if
you do it that way. I've never tried it myself, but my understanding is
that if you start quickmx first it'll slow your system down. I have no idea
why that is.

Re: QUICK MX

2004-08-10 Thread Brian Lewis
Once you're in quickmx, go to your context menu and check that auto-find
setting. I think it defaults to ten. If so, just leave it there. If it's
on something lower than ten, change it to ten.

Re: QUICK MX

2004-08-10 Thread Brian Lewis
Yes, I think it is. I know it definitely improves my downloads. First,
it's continuously searching for files. Second, it can do up to ten searches
at a time, and between the two things, you can get a lot more downloads.
One thing, though, when you first start, be sure to go to the Transfers
window and click the "Load Incomplete" button. This makes sure that Winmx
knows that you still want to finish all those downloads that didn't finish
before. Once you hit that Load Incomplete button, Winmx and Quickmx will
start searching for those incompletes and finish them if they are found.

Andre, just go to the QuickMX.exe & hit Enter.
That's all, it won't say anything, but will take you directly to WinMX in
the usual way.

Re: QUICK MX

2004-08-09 Thread Jessica
You don't, it's an exicutable file that you have to open each time you want
to use it. You have to extract the files the first time you open it.
Just tell it what folder you want them extracted into, then open the
program when you launch winmx.

Andre, yes, it really is worth using the QuickMX with WinMX; it does nothing
  for a single file.
But it works well for several or many downloads together.
Yesterday, I had five downloads going together at a total rate of 101 kbs.
It takes awhile for them to get started but then they take off.

It never says so in the documentation file, but I'm about 95 percent sure
that that auto find in quickmx's menu is to tell it how many searches to
perform at once, not to tell it how often to search. It does say that
quickmx is continuously searching, so there's no need to tell it how often
to search. I went and reduced that number to 1 and my downloads pretty much
dried up, so I changed back to 10.

perform at once, not to tell it how often to search. It does say that
quickmx is continuously searching, so there's no need to tell it how often
to search. I went and reduced that number to 1 and my downloads pretty much
dried up, so I changed back to 10.

Re: QUICK MX

2004-08-09 Thread Brian Lewis
It never says so in the documentation file, but I'm about 95 percent sure
that that auto find in quickmx's menu is to tell it how many searches to
perform at once, not to tell it how often to search. It does say that
quickmx is continuously searching, so there's no need to tell it how often
to search. I went and reduced that number to 1 and my downloads pretty much
dried up, so I changed back to 10.

RE: QUICK MX

2004-08-09 Thread Andre van Deventer
Hi

Not as far as I know, but I will go and check again.

In the meantime - I still have some problems in working with QuickMX. When
I go to the set auto find resource limit sub menu, I get values from one to
ten and not an unlimited value. Also, when I set it on one for example, it
does not change the value in the download list.

Regards

Andre

QUICK MX

2004-08-08 Thread Andre van Deventer
Hi all

I have some problems using quick mx with WinMX. When I load QuickMX, it
seems to mess up the downloads list view. It keeps on repeating the first
song and says it is not selected. So it seems to make WinMX completely
unusable. Has anyone had this problem before?

Regards

Andre
