RE: Beyond TV
I use Beyond TV all the time. When you open it from the task tray, press f6 to start the TV. Press the numbers of the channel to go to and press enter after entering them. The hotkeys for the program are listed on the vendor's site http:/www.snapstream.com. Subject: Beyond TV Hi There, Has anyone on this list used Beyond TV or any of the Beyond Media products? I had bought a media Center Edition computer and an Adaptec Duel Tuner card. All this to let me control my TV and record programs via the computer keyboard. However, neither regular JAWS or Professional JAWS can work with Media Center. Freedom Scientific says that Microsoft will not let FS have access to this program. This means that Microsoft's Media Center is intentionally inaccessible! Beyond TV, should let me independently record programs. Are any of you already using Beyond TV? If this doesn't work out, then I'll try the Swingbox I would really appreciate any input on this. RE: Beyond TV
Hi. I don't own a media center PC but I know of a few people who are using them who are blind, and they use JAWS professional. I can't speak for Window-eyes since I've never had experience with that, however, whoever said that Media center was "inaccessible" was mistaken. See, there's that word again, "accessible", which is very subjective. There is a huge difference between a program that simply will not speak with a screenreader no matter how many scripts or set files you throw at it, and a program that seems unusable, until you learn how to navigate around it. There's always a chance that something can be changed in the program to make it more screenreader friendly, which could help. But in the meantime, I'm drifting off topic here. What I said above could count for any program, audio or otherwise. At 04:18 PM 1/9/2007, you wrote: >I use Beyond TV all the time. When you open it from the task tray, press f6 >to start the TV. RE: Beyond TV
Hello. I'm not sure who on earth you spoke to at Freedom Scientific, but both JFW Professional and WindowEyes work reasonably well with Media Center. I have used both products and although there are a few things that do not work, all of the basic functions like watching TV, changing channels, recording on the fly or scheduling recordings for later viewing work just fine. The program guide is also very useable and you can see what is on and choose to schedule a program for recording, or record the entire series if applicable. Someone at FS has given you inaccurate information, but honestly that doesn't surprise me as it would not be the first time. --Warmest regards, --Rick Alfaro [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of VICTORIA VAUGHAN Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2007 5:10 PM To: PC audio discussion list. It's the interface they're talking about, not the OS, I think. - Original Message - From: "Chris Skarstad" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Re: Beyond TV
Beyond TV works with it's built-in web interface. Other than that, it doesn't work that well with it's own interface. I can record pretty well, but can't really watch live TV with that program. I think the whole access to the media center interface is the whole copy protection issue. I hope this stuff doesn't make accessibility worse before it gets better. - Original Message - From: "VICTORIA VAUGHAN" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Hi Rick, That's discouraging about Freedomscientific, but encouraging about using my new set up! Would you be willing to give me a list of commands, or do you know of a file I can read for them? RE: Beyond TV
Hi. Here is a url that describes a ton of shortcut keys for media Center. Although the page refers to Windows Vista, I was able to see that most of the keys also apply to Media Center 2005 under Windows XP. The remote is also quite useful and in many cases even easier than using the keyboard. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/e69eb36f-de61-4e80-8fe3- f3835b8e3e261033.mspx --Warmest regards, --Rick Alfaro [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of VICTORIA VAUGHAN Sent: Wednesday, January 10, 2007 1:29 AM To: PC audio discussion list.
