RE: J-Tunes 4.0 is released!
I think the comparison of the J-tunes scripts and something like Norton Ghost or antivirus products is invalid. Consider the market for something like an antivirus program. It is definitely in the millions for the original product and the yearly subscriptions. I don't know anything about Brian's business but if he has sold more than a thousand or so copies of his scripts I would be surprised. Prices are determined by the work involved in producing a product but also the size of the market. I remember a conversation I had with Ted Hinter many years ago when Windows 3.1 came out. He was saying that for $79.00 which is what it cost then, you got a lot of software. This was when JAWS was $795.00. There have probably been maybe 250,000 copies of JAWS sold since the beginning and I remember when Windows 95 arrived I read an article that stated that Microsoft was shipping something like 38 million copies per week. That is the difference of scale between these markets. The bottom line is that no one who feels Brian is charging too much will likely change their mind and that's surely their right. I do think it is somewhat presumptuous to assume that he is simply trying to rip off the blind or agencies serving the blind because you think the price is too high. All my dealings with him have been professional and helpful. He provided me with answers and information even before I ever spent any money. So I say as I did before. Try the scripts demo and see if you like them. If they give you a value you think is worth it then buy them. If not don't. Pay 70 dollars and I'll give you a chocolate bar so I can eat- that is, in my view, too expensive when there is rockbox out there, more accessible itunes out there, etc. Then again that's just me. I'd pay 20 dollars for them- but 70? No way. contact details: email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and others msn: [EMAIL PROTECTED] skype: the_conman283 system details: Hp pavillion dv5220CA notebook pc AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 2.0 GHZ, 1024 mb DDR ram, Fujitsu 100 gb 4500 RPM Hard Drive, connecsant AC-link audio - Original Message - From: Anders Holmberg [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, October 11, 2008 7:57 AM Subject: SV: J-Tunes 4.0 is released! From: Scott Erichsen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi all, Despite a bit of a roller-coaster ride at the last moment with the iTunes 8.01 update, J-Tunes version 4.0 is now available to download. Please read this message carefully as it contains important information prior to download. First, we must thank our beta testing team. If it was not for the dedication and support from our beta testers this product just wouldn't have happened. Considering iTunes 8 was released in mid-September, and here we are in mid-October with a completely rewritten and tested product is largely due to the hard work they have put in. Also thanks to the developer, Brian Hartgen who has worked day and sometimes night to get this product to the stage that it is now. He must be congratulated on a fantastic effort. The User Guide is available on the website and I would encourage you to read it as it is likely to answer all your questions. We have expanded it to include all the new features of J-Tunes and have included a whole new section on the use of the iPod Nano 4th generation which is the latest iPod with talking menus J-Tunes will function as a demo by default. However if you have purchased J-Tunes version 3, you can upgrade free of charge. Please read the section in the User Guide relating to how this is done. The price for a full copy of J-Tunes in Australia is $75.00. Literally as each day goes by, we learn more and more about iTunes. We are collectively using more and more functions of iTunes to learn how things work, and so there may be aspects of iTunes which are still inaccessible. If so, please let us know, but we hope J-Tunes 4.0 goes a long way to addressing them. Finally, as with all software, there may be problems with any software package combined with iTunes. However if a bug is conclusively found, the only way to get it addressed for sure is to send it to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] I will then take responsibility for sending your report onto our beta testing team. we will try and rectify it in the next J-Tunes update. But we hope that you will enjoy the J-Tunes experience in using JAWS with iTunes as our many customers have done until this point. So for that all important link. Re: J-Tunes 4.0 is released!
J-Tunes is different prices in different countries... J-Tunes is a set of JAWS scripts that make ITunes work with JAWS. ITunes is accessible, but J-Tunes does a few things better. Ow, that price, inclduing the ipod, seriously turns me off. I don't think I'll be buying this. I mean, what's the difference between j-tunes and I Tunes?
