Subject: NEW PANASONIC VIDEO RECORDER

 Hello all!

A friend of mine has just told me about a new Panasonic video hard
drive recorder that's just come out, it has an Ethernet connection
which allows it to be networked to a computer or other video
recorder, a 400 gig hard drive and can record multi formats such as
MP3 etc, the built-in DVD drive will also record. My friend works at
Panasonic and may be able to get a unit for me to try, would any list
members be interested in my findings?

As yet, I haven't been able to study the manual but I'm told that the
recorder features a html interface similar to those found on say the
Linksys Wireless Gateways or Hp fax devices, this interface allows
the user to edit chapter titles, playlists of recorded material and
I'm told, set menus and functions of the recorder itself and its this
last point that I'm personally very excited about for if it is indeed
true, then it means that the unit will be accessible and we can
bypass the displayed menus on the TV screen etc, not to mention
getting the full functionality that connecting a video recorder to a
 comptuer can provide.

Okay, well if anyone wishes to ask me any questions about the unit in
the meantime then perhaps it may be a good idea to write to me
privately as I notice a number of you have done to save cluttering up
the list, when I've finished researching and evaluating then I'll
email my findings.

2005-12-01 Thread Ian Wells
Right! I'll see what I can do but the first thing I need to warn you
all is that we're talking about a high-end model of recorder and it
ain't the cheapest thing on 2 legs, you only have to look at the
information provided for the model at the Panasonic web site to
realise that we're talking about a Rolls Royce in domestic hard drive
recorder here.

Re: NEW PANASONIC VIDEO RECORDER

2005-12-01 Thread Brent Harding
How would you get the computer to tell shows to play though? I guess if
they're saved on the hard drive as mpg files, winamp will do it over the
network if the device is a drive in my network places. Hopefully the files
are named something recognizable to tell what show it is, but one can tell
soon enough by playing.

I'd imagine that you can play the files from My Network Places but
you can name the files with any name you like, that's one of the
thigns I do know about the machine.

Hi Ian. With it hooked up to your television, would you use something like
this for something like Tevo, so that you can record shows?
