Hi again everyone,

I could really use some help here. I didn't really get an answer last time.

I'll explain the situation.
I have Total Recorder right now, and unless I can use something different, I'll
have to use it.

I have a song I need to edit. There is about fifteen to twenty seconds, in the
middle of the song, that I need to cut out. So, what I've done is the
following:
I first began playing the song. When I got to the place I wanted to cut, I did
a Shift L to mark the front of the spot to select. It finished and then I did
a Shift R to end the selection.
I then hit the Delete key, but nothing happened when I tried saving the file
again.
What am I doing wrong?

I also just got the Direct Cut mp3 program, so if this can be done, I could use
some directions. I've been trying to do this for a week now.

Thanks.

2009-04-13 Thread Ray
Jim, I haven't used Total Recorder so don't have it installed, but out of
curiosity I went to their web site.

Looking at the features of TR it seems the editing abilities are restricted
to the Pro Edition and aren't present in the standard edtion.

So, could you be using the SE version?

Does look as if SR does a lot these days and I'm interested as a friend is
trying to use it.

I used to hear folks criticise SR for messing around with soundcard driver
settings and tending to mess up other sound apps. Is this true? Maybe
someone can enlighten me as to what an SR installation does to your
settings, if anything.

Hope I might just have been of some help.

Ray.

Re: Simple Sound Editing Program that's easy to use

2009-04-13 Thread Jeff Samco

Hi, Jim,

This is easily done with MP3 Direct Cut.

1. Open the program.
2. type Ctrl-o to open an MP3 file to edit.
3. Shift-Tab to get into a standard Windows file browsing and open
dialogue box. Locate the file you want and press enter.

4. Press the spacebar to toggle playback on and off.
5. Use the right and left arrows to move ahead or back in small
increments; or use page-up and page-down for larger increments.
6. When you are at the starting point of the section to remove, stop
playback and press the B key.
7. Resume playback until you reach the end point of the section to
remove, stop playback and press the letter N.
8. Now you can finely adjust the start and end points in this way.
Use the F1 and F2 keys to move the start point back or ahead in very
small increments, like 1 32nd of a second. The F3 and F4 will do this
for the end point.
9. Use the F5 and F6 keys to review the audio just prior and
following the start point; likewise use F7 and F8 to review the audio
just prior and following the end point.
You can use the F9 key to listen to what the audio will sound like if
the selected audio were deleted.

10. When ready, press the delete key to remove the selected audio.
11. Ctrl-Z will undo the last editing if need be.
12. Save the edited file with Ctrl-W and follow the prompts to confirm.
That's it. MP3 Direct Cut is really a fast and easy program for minor
editing like this.

If you wish to clear this file and open another for editing just use Ctrl-F4.

HTH,
Jeff
