OK, all who are interested. Below is the link to the zipped file
containing the essential files for making use of the mad plugin. That
is, the in_mad.dll file, along with a file called in_mad.txt which
contains basic instructions for setting it up.

As you know I gave specific instructions as they pertain to my
personal system, so any adjustments outside these instructions as
given in the text file are entirely up to you.

Hope you like it as much as I do. If not, just throw it away and
 forget about it.

 Enjoy,

 Larry

 David,
Mad is an mp3 decoder plugin that lets you play mp3 files and audio
streams with 24 to 32 bit resolution if your sound card will support
it. I've been using it for about three months and like what it does.

One thing I'm noticing at the moment while listening to a stream, is

As you may be able to tell, I don't normally listen to many audio

If you want to know more, download the file from Sendspace, if it is

Ok, could it be used in Sound Forge to save MP3s at higher bit rate than 16?
If that is the case it would really be awsum. I actually have a soundcard
that will let me sample and play in Sound Forge at 64 bit, but, of course, I
can't save at any place close to that level.

Re: The mad plugin uploaded to sendspace

2007-02-23 Thread David Tanner
You can take the file into Sound Forge, Goldwave or another sound editor and
resample to a higher bit rate. Through a variety of techniques the editor has
the ability to enhance the file based on what it sees and create a new higher
fidelity file. My guess is that it isn't as good as if the file were
originally recorded at the higher bit rate, but it certainly does improve the
sound a lot. I can take a file originally recorded at 22,500, 16 bit 64K and
resample it to 96,000, 64 bit, 500K and the difference in sound will amaze you.

Of course, the thing you have to know ahead of time is that you have the
ability to save the file at that level, and that after you save it that you
have a plug-in that will support that level of audio, and a soundcard that can
handle that bit depth.

Re: The mad plugin uploaded to sendspace

2007-02-22 Thread David Tanner
Ok, could it be used in Sound Forge to save MP3s at higher bit rate than 16?
If that is the case it would really be awsum. I actually have a soundcard that
will let me sample and play in Sound Forge at 64 bit, but, of course, I can't
save at any place close to that level.

make as great a positive difference in your listening experience as

Re: the MAD plugin

2006-11-02 Thread Dana S. Leslie
But, I discovered that, if you do remove or rename the in_mp3.dll file, you
can no longer play .aac files. This surprises me, as .aac, I believe, is an
implementation of the MPEG4 standard, not the MPEG3 standard. And, as I have
ripped all my CDs to .aac 192KPBS, and have few actual MP3 files on my
computer, I think I'm not going to stick with the MAD plug-in, after all.
MP3 at 128kpbs is quite sucky, and I would be glad to be able to improve my
MP3 playback. But not at the expense of disabling my .aac 192kbps playback,
which is quite excellent.

Blessed Be,

Dana

 Keith:

Just copy the plugin in to your c:\program files\winamp\plugins
 dirrectory.

Rename or move the in_mp3.dll file and you are all set.

 Cheers.

 Hello listers,

I have pasted below a Sendspace link for downloading the MAD plugin.
I've had a number of requests to send, but all but one of my file
attachments have bounced for being too big. I don't really understand
why because the file is only 145kb in size. Anyway, I hope it will
make as great a positive difference in your listening experience as
 it has my own.

Hi,

Yes, there is. The link is on 2 lines in the note. You have to join them
together and plug them into the Open dialog in IE. It worked fine for me.

Re: the MAD plugin

2006-11-01 Thread Larry Higgins
Jim, just when was the last update released?

Hey, never mind. I forgot to send the above question. I just
downloaded the new version and instantly installed it. I started
playing some Roy Orbison, and I'm telling you, this new one really
kicks some ass. I just wish there was some documentation along with
the .dll file, because it is a lot larger, with a lot more features.
You could really get lost.

Thanks for the heads up,

Larry
