Re: The mad plugin uploaded to sendspace
You can take the file into Sound Forge, Goldwave or another sound editor and resample to a higher bit rate. Through a variety of techniques the editor has the ability to enhance the file based on what it sees and create a new higher fidelity file. My guess is that it isn't as good as if the file were originally recorded at the higher bit rate, but it certainly does improve the sound a lot. I can take a file originally recorded at 22,500, 16 bit 64K and resample it to 96,000, 64 bit, 500K and the difference in sound will amaze you. Of course, the thing you have to know ahead of time is that you have the ability to save the file at that level, and that after you save it that you have a plug-in that will support that level of audio, and a soundcard that can handle that bit depth. - Original Message - From: Gary Petraccaro [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2007 11:35 PM Subject: Re: The mad plugin uploaded to sendspace : If the file starts with only 16-bit, how can you increase to 24-bit? Re: The mad plugin uploaded to sendspace
I'm not sure I'm the one to ask about that, since I'm not a Sound Forge user. This decoder is designed only as an input plugin for use with Winamp as far as I know. And as far as listening is concerned, believe me, if you manage to set this thing up right, it wont matter. Just rip your cds at what ever bit rate you think is justified, and play it in winamp through the mad plugin, and it should sound worlds better. Definitely with much greater detail. I've managed to collect lots of mp3s at 192 and above through newsgroups over the years, and since the files you get from these groups is for the most part of a higher quality, I've felt no need to enhance them in any way. Re: the MAD plugin
But, I discovered that, if you do remove or rename the in_mp3.dll file, you can no longer play .aac files. This surprises me, as .aac, I believe, is an implementation of the MPEG4 standard, not the MPEG3 standard. And, as I have ripped all my CDs to .aac 192KPBS, and have few actual MP3 files on my computer, I think I'm not going to stick with the MAD plug-in, after all. MP3 at 128kpbs is quite sucky, and I would be glad to be able to improve my MP3 playback. But not at the expense of disabling my .aac 192kbps playback, which is quite excellent. Re: the MAD plugin
Jim, just when was the last update released? Hey, never mind. I forgot to send the above question. I just downloaded the new version and instantly installed it. I started playing some Roy Orbison, and I'm telling you, this new one really kicks some ass. I just wish there was some documentation along with the .dll file, because it is a lot larger, with a lot more features. You could really get lost. I've had a number of requests to send, but all but one of my file attachments have bounced for being too big. I don't really understand why because the file is only 145kb in size. Anyway, I hope it will make as great a positive difference in your listening experience as it has my own. http://www.sendspace.com/fil e/ubktdo ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This list is a service of MosenExplosion.com.
