Hi, It's the standard dialog box for say like notepad. in the open file box you'll hit tab and hear soemthing like file types and the 1st option is supported filetypes. Hi, Tim. If you could give us a step by step on any of the more popular audio packages, SF, GW, EZ CD DA Extractor, whatever, I'd be most grateful. I've never gotten them to do conversion from real audio to MP3 (they do the reverse most satisfactorily), though I certainly have tried. Hi, Rick. I simply cannot get Goldwave to open a .rm/ra/ram (when RAM contains sound) files. I have set GoldWave to show all files but, though I see the rm file and can hit enter to open it, I get this error File Format Cannot determine format of file: file1.rm Please specify a format below. File type: Raw (snd, raw) Attributes: PCM signed 16 bit, little endian, mono Rate (Hz): 8000 Custom... Data >> OK Cancel Help When I say OK to the raw file type it wants to open it as, and hit space to play it, I get a loud noise rather than any content. Well, I no longer have any of those programs on my system except realplayer and Windows Media player because that seems to be all I need but as far as GW goes, just choose the .ra file you want as your input sound and just save it to whatevver format you want. Somebody did a series of Goldwave classes for talkingcommunities.com which might still be floating around that told exactly how to do it, and if you can't find them I have them. As far as easy cd da extractor goes, you just use the audio converter, choose the real audio file as your input file and choose your output as far as I remember. The files I want to convert have the .rm extension which I think makes them Real Media files. In any case none of the suggested programs seemed to work with them. I ended up purchasing Replay Converter from www.applian.com which had a special price for owners of their other products. The price for Replay Converter is normally $19.95, but since I have Replay Radio AV, I got it for $9.95. I found the Special Offer link on the page that has the purchasing info for Replay Converter. I just pasted my activation code for Replay Radio AV into the provided edit field for the Special Offer. Replay Converter works fine with .rm files and can convert more than one at a time. Hi, Randy, try total recorder from http://www.highcriteria.com though there is no batch conversion, it will convert a .rm file to an mp3 file, but you have to convert each of the files in real time. Maybe another program like gold wave, or sound forge might offer batch conversion. Total recorder has two versions, a standard version, and a professional version. The standard version is $13, and is well worth the money, but it does take getting use to. RE: a program for converting real audio to mp3
Hi. There are quite a few packages that can do this. These include Total Recorder and other programs of its kind which can convert the sound file as it plays in a player. I notice that others have mentioned these packages, so I won't. The problem with them is that they need you to play the file through. Therefore, a 1 hour file takes 1 hour to convert. Further, they tie up the sound card. To get it done faster and without using the sound card, try one of these packages. http://www.rmconverter.com has a shareware package called RM to MP3 converter. http://www.dbpoweramp.com has a free package which will allow the conversion of real audio to wav and MP3, among other formats, for the first 30 days of use. If you want to convert to wav after the first 30 days, it's still free. If you want to convert to MP3 after the first 30 days, you have to pay $15, I believe. Of course, once you have the files converted to wav, you can convert them to MP3 quite easily with free packages like CDEX.
