The shuffle has a headphone socket, it doubles as a line-out socket
if you wish to connect it to a music port on your Hi-Fi system, line-

Surely there would be some reduction in sound quality because of an
impedence mismatch when you connect a headphone socket to a stereo input of
a hifi system?

That's what AI like about my old iriver 320 - it has a line output also.

I can't answer that. I too have an Iriver so I know what you're

can swithc switch the headphone socket between headphone and line-out
through the menu system which I access through my LINUX box.

Ok, well in a further reply to this, my new Mocro system for example
has what Panasonic terms as a music port on the front of it which
is designed to connect to an Ipod or similar such device through a
headphone socket so the impedence for this particular facility may
not be the same as a line-out, that's something that listers may wish

sure it references line-out or connecting the shuffle to a Hi-Fi system.

Subject: Ipod Shuffle and connecting to an audio system

Hi!
Ok, I've read my Shuffle manual and it doesn't mention connecting to
a Hi-Fi or audio system actually, it just mentions connecting the
headphones to the headphones port so obviously it doesn't have a
dedicated line-out but I can say that it works when I connect it to
the music port on my Micro Hi-Fi here, the auxilary port of my
Panasonic RXED50 portable CD Radio Cassette unit etc. I've also
hooked it up to computer speakers without a problem so I think I can
safely assume from all this that if you were to connect the unit to
the line-in of an amp for instance, you'd get pretty good results
though (as has b een mentioned) not quite as good as you would get if
you had a dedicated line-out socket or port.
Now having said all that, its possible that there may be an Ipod
shuffle dock out there somewhere that gives the user a dedicated line-
out socket.
Thanks for raising this, most interesting.

You can buy a wonderful program called Anapod Explorer. It provides a
windows explorer type of interface to transfer your tunes to your
iPod, which is *much* more accessible and easy than iTunes! To me it
is the only way to go. Unfortunately, iTunes must be present on your
system for everything to worrk, so make sure that you do not uninstall
 iTunes!
You can buy 2 versions of the Anapod software. One for all iPods
which costs $30, and one for $20 which is just for the shuffle.

Trust me! This is way way way better than iTunes!

As I recall, once you get to the point where you're moving music from the
iTunes library to the iPod shuffle, you can choose the tracks yourself. But
first you have to get the library and the shuffle to communicate. And I know
of no way to use something other than iTunes for the transfer of your music.
If someone out there can prove me wrong on that score, I'd be grateful.

Sorry, not exactly a positive post. Quite honestly, I use the iPod shuffle
because I got it for free. Still, it does sound great, and the buttons on
the device itself are quite easy to identify and use.

Hi. I've got this plugin, and after reading the documentation, I think I
know what I did wrong originally. When I first tried it, I tried copying
and pasting tracks but it didn't work.
I then realized that you have to actually add songs to your Winamp library,
which I hadn't done before, but can certainly do. The first time, it
messed up my iPod to the point I had to reformat it. Not fun for me.
So i'll give it another try and let you guys know how it works.

Re: Ipod shuffle and winamp plug-in

2005-11-27 Thread Robert Hebert
Control tab to the windows library.
Tab once here and you will hear library button press spacebar.
(I'm assuming you're using Jaws here since you have not said differently).
Now, arrow down until you hear add media and press enter.
From here you need to brows to the place where you store your music files and
highlight that folder.
Press enter and the process of adding your song titles to your Winamp library
should begin. Note, the music directory itself is not transferred, simply a
listing of the titles in your music folder is added to the library so adding
media to library is not really a space issue. A few people have thought this
was the case but it is definitely not.
This process can take from a few seconds up to a half hour or more depending on
how many files you have in your music folder and the operating speed of your
system.
You can contact me privately if you like should you have any problems but the
process is really very simple--it has to be, even I was able to figure it out.

Hi Robert

Ok, I tried as you suggested as I'd never imported songs into the library
before believe it or not. However when I look at the tracks, all i seem to
see is that it says, no artist, no title for each track. Is there a way I
can change this behavior? I'd really like to get to know the library
better. All I really do with it is listen to Shoutcast radio, but if it can
do lots of cool things with your music, I'd be willing to try it if I can
get it to work right.
Thanks.

Hi,

Anapod enables you to use a tree-view that looks like windows explorer. I
don't know about its support for the ipod shuffle (except that someone on
this list said as much recently). You may want to check out

http://www.redchairsoftware.com/

to be sure.

 Subject: Ipod Shuffle

Hi there, I am attempting to confirm a suspicion with the Ipod
 Shuffle, and
that is that music must indeed be transfered from the PC using the Itunes
software. I could not get it to work using Windows Explorer, although it
makes a fine jump drive when using this method to transfer files.
I believe that I had read that a new version of Anapod Explorer will
eventually support an alternative method to the Itunes program, but I also
wanted to make certain that Windows Explorer is not an option, unless I am
 doing something incorrectly.
 Thanks.

Re: Ipod Shuffle

2005-02-21 Thread Alf
As far as i know, any ipod will not work with windows explorer for
transfering music and after listening it, because ipod makes special
database where the tracks are stored that its possible to listen to them.
However i also found that anapod explorer will be updated for ipod shuffle
support. I also found a free program called vpod which transfers music files
from ipod to pc and from pc to ipod, but the last version came out in 2003.
I contacted the author of the program so in a short time i hope that the
answer will be positive about ipod shuffle. Anyway i'll drop info on the
list.

Thanks for the information regarding Vpod, I tried it, but had no luck as
the Shuffle was not recognized within the program as an Ipod.
But Thanks for the suggestion.

RE: ipod shuffle and accsesibility

2005-02-19 Thread KStarrett
Hi Alf,

I have an Ipod and have found ways to use it. There's a program called
Anapod that makes this possible.

Recently I tried to help someone out with getting the Ipod shuffle up and
running with anapod and had no luck so I can't speak for the shuffle. I can
say that the Ipod is usable though especially friendly for a blind user.

Hope that helps,
Kimberly
