There is a fix for this, but it doesn't seem to work for everyone.
It worked for me on multiple machines, though.

You can go into the wave input plugin and re-select all associations in
the plugin's configuration itself. I've found that doing it through the
file types tab works just fine for opening wav files from windows
explorer, but it still won't show up in the open file dialogue until you
configure the plugin properly.
It's really rather stupid, yes it is.
