Re: Setting Recording Levels in Vista

2009-02-19 Thread Ray
ope you get an answer to this question Mary - and by the way, your messages
are getting through.

I recall lengthy threads on this subject some time ago, and it all seems to
hinge around the fact that the settings for enabling recording in Vista's
Control Panel application are hidden until you know the process to go
through to unhide them. So, this is what we want from anyone who knows
about this.

I don't use Vista but should I encounter a machine running it then I would
like to know how to get at these hidden controls.

Sorry can't be of more help.

Ray.

Hello,

This is the third time I've sent this, and I don't think it's getting
through. It may be my inexperience with Vista. Anyway, I would be very
grateful if any other Vista users could tell me how to set recording levels.
Also, are there any shortcuts to reach the record tab? Thank you very much
for your help.

Hi Mari,

1. You can open the Sound dialog by opening the start menu and typing sound.
The first match will probably be sound recorder, but you can just arrow down
one to sound, and then press enter.

2. Press ctrl+tab to move to the recording page, where there's a list of
devices. Select a device, and press spacebar ( or choose properties from its
context menu).

3. A properties dialog for that device opens. Move to the levels page of this
dialog, and there'll be a slider where you can set the recording level. Then
just press the ok button, and you're returned to the sound dialog.

Other stuff you can do on the recording page of the sound dialog from the
context menu of a selected device:
1. set disabled and disconnected devices to be shown in the list.
2. set the selected device as default.
3. enable the device if it's disabled.

David.

Hi David,

Thank you so much. I am still getting used to this new system, and your
instructions are clear.

Setting Recording Levels in Vista

2009-02-17 Thread Mari Dole
Greetings Everyone,

My old computer of eight years finally died and I now have a new one, with
the dreaded Vista operating system. If anyone uses this OS, could you please
tell me how to set recording levels, especially for a USB microphone. Many
thanks.
