Larry! M-Audio has Jam Lab, retail $79.00 and Fast Track, retail
$129.00. For those prices I would include shipping. Edirol has just
released the UA4FX which I could deliver for $185.00. I have the older
UA3FX but I don't play guitar.

Hi Jerry. Actually now it's a guitar effects processor that's being
recommended to me. It's an M-Audio USB card. As to what I'm looking for...
plug and play portability, a mike and line out capability, as well as line
in.

Thanks.

Larry! You can undoubtedly do better but in what respect do you want
to do better. Sound Cards both internal and external come in a bewildering
array of configurations. Some have ten or more inputs, some have built-in
effects, some are designed for very high quality audio recording. I'm using
one now that is really a guitar effects processor.

USB Sound Card question

2006-03-13 Thread Larry N
My new computer includes a 5.1 surround sound chip. It offers 1 plugg each
for mike, speakers and line in. The store that sold it to me claims that I
cannot do better with - a USB sound card, or an autigy 2ZS which offers
jacks on both the front and back. This is a great computer in all other
respects, but it's my feeling that I can do better than a 5.1 chip without
breaking the bank. Does anyone have an opinion on the subject.

By the way, most of my recording is line in, and it would certainly help to
have more than 1 line in jack along with convenient access. I'm using bothe
Window Eyes 5.5 and Jaws 7.0.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Larry

I don't know those zittle devices but if they connect to a laptop's
soundcard then I really wouldn't be interested. I have yet to find a laptop
with a high quality soundcard. The advantage of the USB connection is that
you bypass that nasty bit of cheap electronics.

you don't need a soundcard to connect to a HI FI. all you need is one of the

You don't have the noise of the internal parts of the machine in it as much,
I'm sure. Otherwise they're probably not necessarily any better but could be
depending on what the system came with.

Re: USB Sound Card question

2006-03-07 Thread Brent Harding
One could probably patch the digital out in if the line jack is already
used. I think most onboard cards now even have some sort of digital in.

Either that, or you could be cheap and patch a USB soundcard into the
line in of a sound card that already has speakers on it's output,
assuming you have a line in available (usually not the case with
laptops).
Also, many multimedia speaker sets have two inputs on them for just this
purpose.

USB Sound Card question

2006-03-07 Thread Gary Schindler
How does one hear what is coming through a USB soundcard? Must you plug in
another set of speakers into the soundcard? the reason I ask is that I have
a USB Logitech Microphone, and when I use it, I don't hear anything coming
through the speakers that are hooked up to the computer soundcard itself!
