Re: Converting from victor stream to wav or mp3
It might. What format does the Victor Stream record in? I assume you're asking how to use Switch. It's a very straight forward interface that works well out of the box with JFW. I assume it would work with any screen reader. You just hit alt-f to go into the File pulldown and press enter to add files to the list of files to be converted. This is the pretty standard dialog that you get when searching for files, but tab over and select the file type you're going to convert. I usually just go to the bottom of the list to select all file types. Now find the files you're interested in and click on the open button. You can repeat this as many times as you want to populate the list of files you want to convert. When you're done selecting your files, I usually hit control-a to make sure they're all selected. Tab over to the browse button and pick the directory where you want the converted files to be located. Tab over to select the output of the file type, click on the convert options to set things like the bit rate and click the convert button to start the conversion process. Like I said, it's all pretty straightforward and the program has a free trial, so no reason to download it and give it a try. I have a set of 22050 KHZ 16 bit WAV files here which I wish to convert to MP3. Does anyone know how to decide what bitrate to use for these files? Like my last question, I'd like to get to the point of diminishing returns and then stop. Size isn't really an issue for me, but I don't want to waste space for an inappreciable difference in sound quality. Are there any particular rules as to what bitrate is good for what sort of sound file? What I'd really like, if anyone has it, is a web page explaining this or a phrase I could type into Google or one of the other engines for more information. Thanks in advance. There's a tool to combine .wav or .mp3 files.
Hello, a few weeks ago, Larry asked about how to merge two .wav files which were each side of a cassette. He got several suggestions, and all valid, and these were things I did, like combining the files by the copy and paste method in Sound Forge. However, I'm going to be recieving a large amount of live concert recordings in .shn format, and it will be in individual tracks. I'd use my .shn to .wav converter, but then I'd have the time-consuming task of loading each track into Sound Forge and copying them into one master file for retracking. I hoped there was a better way, and it arrives in the form of a tool which will combine .wav or .mp3 files into one file. It costs $19.95, and lets you join ten times before the demo expires. It's a little tricky to get going, but nothing you can't do if you know how to manipulate your mouse cursor a little bit. It took me about fifteen minutes to get the hang of it's layout. This is just one of the tools available from www.Splitter-Joiner.com Note the hyphen in there. Anyhow, it's worth the $20 I will be paying for it when my audio projects come up, so I thought I'd pass it on for the archives, if not belatedly to Larry's question of three weeks ago. Thanks a lot.
