2005-05-26 Thread Pam Drake
Hello, All,

Often when I launch Winamp I get a message that there is a new version
available. The reference is given to the Winamp.com site. When I am
asked if I want to download it I say no; but I wonder if there's a
reason why we generally get it from whitestick.uk or another lister.

Would there be any harm in downloading from the winamp site?

Many thanks in advance.

No harm at all. That's Winamp's home and they're offering the same program.
I've downloaded from there before without incident. WhiteStick is an
excellent source for accessible programs and one of them happens to be
Winamp. One feature of your Winamp software is that it let's you know when
an update is out there for you to download. If you choose not to download
you can just press the no button and the nag screen goes away. I'm not
certain, but I don't think it comes back.

It *does* come back, each time you re-start the program. If you want it to
go away for good, you have to disable the feature, in the General

Intresting. For me it didn't pop up the time I ran Winamp after receiving
the update announcement. Sorry for the incorrect info and glad you found the
way to disable the annoyance.

Hi, Steve, hawthorne heights is a heavy metal group, and they had an
mp3 in that last version of winamp, something about ohio lover, and
with that not there, that made the size of the file smaller.

This filename does not contain the word hawthorne in it, which the
earlier one did. This one is also half the size. I wonder what
Hawthorne was all about.
