no sound in winamp

2011-08-31 Thread Fanus
Hello List
All of a sudden I hear no sound when I try to play a song in
winamp. The song plays in goldwave. Maybe I changed a winamp
setting by accident.
Can someone please help.

WMP may be muted, I think f8 mutes and unmutes but it might be f7 or f9. I
have another version. Keep tabbing till you hear the mute and volume
controls. They are independent of the Windows mixer.

Also check tools, options, devices tab, speakers, properties,; to set output
if you have more than one sound card.

I agree, it's strange that rewind is disabled in WMP and we have to use a
seek bar that has no direct hot keys or even a quick way to bring the slider
to focus.

I'm running Winamp 5.572, and I do see AVI as a supported file type.
It's listed in the Winamp preferences in the file types list. When I
click on an AVI file in Windows Explorer, Winamp is the media player
that comes up and plays it. Did you install the lite or standard
version of Winamp? I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Did you make sure that all of the file type support was installed
 when you installed Winamp?

I'm also pretty sure that WMP supports fast forwarding and rewinding
through the menus, hot keys or using the slide bar on the interface.
I don't typically use WMP though, so I can't be sure. Does fast
forwarding and rewinding in WMP work for you on other file types? My
biggest gripe with WMP is that I can't figure out how to control the
amount you jump in a file. I think it's based on a percent of the
 overall length of the file.

I am aware Winamp and JAWS don't play nicely on 64 bit Windows, but due to
my hearing impairment I only use it to play my music, not bothered about
anything else. So as for me it's good but yeah it's strange as I've been
using 32 bit Windows for years and Winamp worked fully with that
 configuration.

I am using, hopefully very temporarily, a computer with Windows 7 and the v
version of Jaws 11 for this 64 bit machine. Winamp won't respond to any
commands, and I'm sure this is because there are no Jaws scripts to support
this version of Windows. It plays but you can no longer set equalizer or
use commands like control shift T, etc. So naturally the sound has a flat
effect, and actually my sighted daughter couldn't make the equalizer work
either. So Winamp may not be able to be fully used with these 64 bit
 computers.

So for now I'd be willing to go back to Media Player, but its menus are
confusing and I can't find where its equalizer might be. If anyone knows
how to access Media Player's equalizer, or if anyone knows of new Winamp
scripts that may work with this, please let me know. Thanks.

RE: enhancing sound with winamp or windows media player on 64 bit machine

2009-11-16 Thread Chris Hallsworth
I am aware Winamp and JAWS don't play nicely on 64 bit Windows, but due to
my hearing impairment I only use it to play my music, not bothered about
anything else. So as for me it's good but yeah it's strange as I've been
using 32 bit Windows for years and Winamp worked fully with that
configuration.

Subject: enhancing sound with winamp or windows media player on 64 bit
machine

Thanks.

Richard,

If you have the Direct Sound Output Plug in selected, the surround feature
does work. It sounds very good.

Thanks, I can't find where to turn this on in the direct out config.
Perhaps I have the wrong version of winamp 5.1. I downloaded it from the
recent posting.

hi
It's entirely possible that your sound card doesn't support 5.1 surround
sound. That might be why you aren't hearing it.
Just a guess though.

Re: surround sound in winamp 5.1

2005-09-05 Thread Robert Hebert
Looks like Winamp is putting surround in 2 speakers--i.e. it appears to
automatically change speaker settings.
Yesterday, I noticed my speaker settings had been set to quadraphonic. I put
them back to stereo after experimenting with the latest Winamp 5.1.
Well, today, these settings had been changed again and this time they were on
5.1 surround sound.
I played some songs through 6 speakers using the surround sound setting but my
speakers are not surround sound speakers--i.e. I do not have a surround system
so still didn't notice much difference--if any--though I really wanted to!

It probably wouldn't work too well if you use 2.1 setups. Unless it's able
to use that weird technology that puts surround in two speakers, but how
realistic could that really sound. If the speakers are on your left and
right, sure can't get sound behind you from them.
