[PD] [pd] forum hacked

2007-04-08 Thread hard off
some hackers just took down the pd forum ( http://puredata.hurleur.com/ )

does anyone know how to fix that? hopefully neko, who moderates the
forum, can do something. it would be a shame if we lost all the posts
from there.

I am using version 0.6 of HID and it still keeps crashing. It seems like
this might be local to my computer. Is there any way I can check if that's
true?

I need more info to know what's going on. First off, which version
are you using (i.e. the numbers not the most recent)? A log of
what's in the Pd window would be useful. Here's how:

- launch Pd
- in the Preferences - StartUp, add -stderr to the startup flags
- click Save all settings
- quit Pd
- start Pd again
- send the [print( message to [hid]
- use [hid] until it crashes
- launch /Applications/Utilities/Console.app
- in Console.app, copy the stuff from Pd (looks the same as in the Pd
window)

- paste this in an email and send it here.

Hi,
I suggest changing the [spigot~] objects to [pd spigot~] subpatches, because:
1. Many versions don't have such an object, and more importantly,
2. There is a [spigot~] object from ydegoyon, that does NOT behave in
the way that you expect in your patch ... i.e. it's not like [spigot],
I don't remember what it does but I'm basing this on a statement Kyle
made about 6 months ago.

Re: [PD] HID Crashing

Here is what the Pd window gives me for the print method in hid. It
appears to detect the sidewinder (my gamepad) in all its glory, but
the buttons do not register when pressed. I tried using the test

fine, since I was using it with hid last year, and it works with other

On my system with the below configuration, devices listed 5 and above crash Pd.

Hope that helps!

Like which device numbers? Could you send more info, like a
transcript of the stuff in the Pd window?

Also, only the analog d-pad for my game pad works, but not the

It used to work on earlier builds, so it may be something with the
  latest version.

This is actually most likely to be a shoddy USB HID descriptor in the
USB device, which what the OS uses to know what data to expect from
the device. If the OS can't get the data, then [hid] can't either.

What do you get in the Pd window when you send a [print( message to
[hid]? You should see a listing of the elements for that device as
given by the OS. If something is listed there that is not showing up
in Pd space, that's most likely a bug in [hid]. If it is not listed
there, that's most likely a bad USB implementation on the device,
 which is sadly quite common.

You should in any case use the detached mode (send [detach 1( ) to
