I have a keynote presentation that I made while teaching in China, 1 1/2 years

irrelevant to your needs) and then export it as QT movie with manual advance.
I could upload it somewhere but as I don't have time to edit it myself you
would need to do some work. The keynote file is ~ 2MB, the exported QT movie
full size should be ~15MB.

every reggae music mix since Lee Perry has been using this type of sound. I
used a cheapo yamaha portasound in the early 80s to do that, plus a fat phasor
effect on it. then there's a short delay on it as well with a different EQ
setting.

if you want to create a phasor effect in pd you either create a very short
delay or (I think better) a bank of notch filters, either boost or cut. with a
metro you can then slide through the frequencies with range and speed of your
liking.

As for Apple remote, I believe the problem is that it is paired 'internally'

I hate the situation, too...

[PD] any reason that MTC crashes Pd on OS X?

2010-06-09 Thread jurgen
Sending MTC to Pd and reading it with [midiin] makes Pd unresponsive - using
[print] continues listing incoming data even when the MTC generator is stopped.
This occurs both when I use IAC and external MIDI in. The data received seems
to be correct, I follow the documentation for Max.
There is no obvious reason why this should happen and I wonder if anybody was
able to receive MTC and actually use it.

occasionally it is impossible to close patches with w but it is still

Pd-ext freezes very rarely and I haven't found a pattern for that.
Using in-built audio and plugging in or out headphones requires to re-define

However usually it runs well for the entire day, no problems as you describe.

Re: [PD] How to installing externals??

2009-12-26 Thread jurgen
To me the point is not about file formats but rather simpler about locations in
OS X. If the .pd_darwin document is actually compiled for the processor one
uses it will work, no doubt. What I noticed that does not work is the default
folders mentioned in the on-line documentation, i.e. for global use in
'/Library/Pd'. After I read the instructions online I tried it again - when I
delete the path in the preferences and drop the libs in there they are _not_
available any longer (red dotted boxes). Reversing the operation and they're
back. I noticed this under OS X.4 and under OS X.6 that I'm using now.
My conclusion was that the user needs to do something else when the default
locations '/Library/Pd' are used that I am not aware of.

Re: [PD] How to installing externals??

I apologize for my ignorance but putting externals into the default folder
under OS X never worked for me, neither under OS X.4 nor OS X.6. I just tried
it again - copying the additional libs from '/anywhere' on my disk into
/Library/Pd and taking them off my Preferences/Path makes them unavailable. I
assume there is something else that the user needs to do that I am not aware of.
I personally find the fftease stuff very useful, also the pdmtl lib. There are

How do people using Mac work this around?

Hmmm, I tested on 0.40.something AND vanilla 0.42.5 and it didn't work.
Is it possible that it is fixed in more recent versions of extended (starting
maybe from 0.41.something) but not in vanilla???

What you describe [savepanel] should do Matteo, it does alright here (open
browser and print typed in filename as a symbol). maybe it is OS related...
sorry I can't test previous OS releases.

I think it is not supposed to; afaik [savepanel] just lets you browse to
select a file and outputs its name as a symbol. What you do with it is up to
 you.
It also prompts for confirmation if the file already exists.
Another difference with respect to [openpanel] is it lets you write a
filename of a file which doesn't exist yet.
And it says save in the window title.

My problem is it just does not open the browse window on a MacBook Pro 4.1
(intel core duo) Mac Os X 10.5.8

Re: [PD] [sigmund~] and [fiddle~]

2009-12-08 Thread jurgen
I only have little experience, but from what I've seen so far is that pitch
detection with sigmund~ is faster than fiddle~.

On the other hand I found the level setting 'minpower' not working or at least
nor responsive to changes that I tried out. I do not have experimented with the
corresponding settings in fiddle~.

But under the hood I think it uses a better algorithm. In my experiments it
reports pitch faster and more reliable and stable than fiddle~. So if you can
use sigmund~ I would recommend it over fiddle~ as a replacement.

Back in the LAC 2008 in Cologne, I asked Miller that very question: what is
the difference between fiddle~ and sigmund~.
He said sigmund~ was the best pitch tracker he had programmed so far.
So I guess fiddle is still alive just for compatibility reasons.

Ah, sorry, it belongs to RjDj and can be downloaded either as
part of the RjDj Composer Pack: http://trac.rjdj.me/
or with subversion as:
$ svn co http://svn.rjdj.me/scenes/trunk/rjlib/

Browse it here: http://trac.rjdj.me/browser/trunk/rjlib

Re: [PD] [OT] advice about low budget multichannel hardware configs

2009-10-25 Thread jurgen
You have to be realistic - 25 channels is an extremely hardware
ineffective configuration because audio interfaces come by increments
of 8. Meaning for 25 channels you need 4 of those.
I believe you can do it cheapest if you use OS X: you may borrow from
friends any brand of device and then create in OS X an 'aggregate'
device. This combines any number of any audio interfaces into one big
virtual interface that you then can address with jack. It also solves
the problem of the 25th channel because the aggregate device may
include the machines in-built audio hardware on top of fw/usb things.

Good luck

3-4 of firepods together for their project but I doubt their budget

Re: [PD] [OT] advice about low budget multichannel hardware configs

2009-10-25 Thread jurgen
Just a word about devices - I regularly use 3 different interfaces
(Metric Halo, Rosetta 800, Fireface 800) for large recordings and
NEVER have issues. but the devices can't be the cheapest because you
still have to lock the word clock. When you mentioned 'cheap' my first
reflex was on borrowed or rented stuff (I borrow, no money here either).

And you need only 3 plus in-built stereo for channels 25+26...

Good luck
Jurgen

[PD] add path under os x.6

2009-10-13 Thread jurgen

Hi,

there is this ongoing thread but not really an answer - if someone
wanted to add a lib that is inside the pd-extended package, how to do
that? under os x.6 the app is grayed out so definitely no way to open
the package content from the 'new path' selection.
I'm curious to know how to do that, although as a simple functioning
work-around I copied the entire contents folder somewhere else and add/
define my path to there.
