every reggae music mix since Lee Perry has been using this type of sound. I used a cheapo yamaha portasound in the early 80s to do that, plus a fat phasor effect on it. then there's a short delay on it as well with a different EQ setting. if you want to create a phasor effect in pd you either create a very short delay or (I think better) a bank of notch filters, either boost or cut. with a metro you can then slide through the frequencies with range and speed of your liking. Re: [PD] How to installing externals??
To me the point is not about file formats but rather simpler about locations in OS X. If the .pd_darwin document is actually compiled for the processor one uses it will work, no doubt. What I noticed that does not work is the default folders mentioned in the on-line documentation, i.e. for global use in '/Library/Pd'. After I read the instructions online I tried it again - when I delete the path in the preferences and drop the libs in there they are _not_ available any longer (red dotted boxes). Reversing the operation and they're back. I noticed this under OS X.4 and under OS X.6 that I'm using now. My conclusion was that the user needs to do something else when the default locations '/Library/Pd' are used that I am not aware of. I apologize for my ignorance but putting externals into the default folder under OS X never worked for me, neither under OS X.4 nor OS X.6. what about [change] ? without asking the list you find a lot of clues by following the discussions on the 'hurleur' forum and analyzing posted patches there. that's what I do anyway. Re: [PD] rj dirlib [was: Re: how to nqpoly?]
rj-lib doesn't seem to be part of pd-extended. I didn't see a link on your footils site either. sourceforge search renders no results. just where is the library available? try [closebang] - read help file Jurgen On Oct 31, 2009, at 9:23 PM, Ivica Ico Bukvic wrote: I guess the title says it all. Re: [PD] [OT] advice about low budget multichannel hardware configs
You have to be realistic - 25 channels is an extremely hardware ineffective configuration because audio interfaces come by increments of 8. Meaning for 25 channels you need 4 of those. I believe you can do it cheapest if you use OS X: you may borrow from friends any brand of device and then create in OS X an 'aggregate' device. This combines any number of any audio interfaces into one big virtual interface that you then can address with jack. It also solves the problem of the 25th channel because the aggregate device may include the machines in-built audio hardware on top of fw/usb things. Good luck Jurgen On Oct 25, 2009, at 12:32 AM, Greg Pond wrote: I am helping some friends make their first PD sound installation. I use the presonus firepod external card in my work which could work with a single cpu chaining 3-4 of firepods together for their project but I doubt their budget can support buying so many of them. For amps we could build 25 simple chip amps with op amp ICs to keep costs down but those that I have built in the past are useful for low volume only. If anyone has other hardware configurations and amplifier schematics that they use I would be grateful for suggestions. thanks Greg ___ Pd-list@iem.at mailing list UNSUBSCRIBE and account-management - http://lists.puredata.info/listinfo/pd-list ___ Pd-list@iem.at mailing list UNSUBSCRIBE and account-management - http://lists.puredata.info/listinfo/pd-list
Re: [PD] [OT] advice about low budget multichannel hardware configs
Just a word about devices - I regularly use 3 different interfaces (Metric Halo, Rosetta 800, Fireface 800) for large recordings and NEVER have issues. but the devices can't be the cheapest because you still have to lock the word clock. When you mentioned 'cheap' my first reflex was on borrowed or rented stuff (I borrow, no money here either). And you need only 3 plus in-built stereo for channels 25+26... Good luck Jurgen On Oct 25, 2009, at 9:08 PM, Greg Pond wrote: I agree with you that 25 is extremely hardware ineffective. [PD] add path under os x.6
Hi, there is this ongoing thread but not really an answer - if someone wanted to add a lib that is inside the pd-extended package, how to do that? under os x.6 the app is grayed out so definitely no way to open the package content from the 'new path' selection. I'm curious to know how to do that, although as a simple functioning work-around I copied the entire contents folder somewhere else and add/ define my path to there.
