Max doesn't come with externals, unless you mean Gen~ / Jitter / etc, as
far as documentation goes, it shouldn't take much space. But yeah,
comparing the size of Max and Pd is ridiculous. And in this sense, I
consider Pd to be much lighter. Pd runs in quite old computers and on
things like raspberry pi, I don't believe Max could run on a raspberry if
it could be installed in Linux, for instance.

[PD] Is Pd somehow more efficient than Max/MSP?

2020-01-14 Thread Giovanni
Hi all,
I am new to this mailing list, so pleased to meet you!

I have been thinking about this question since a while: is it possible to
say that Pd is more efficient than Max?
In one hand is pretty obvious that Max requires more space for
documentation and all the externals and whathever, but does this lead more
latency and more cpu-wasting when it comes to audio synthesis? I also did
not have the possibility to test Max in an old PC.

Plus, -if there is a newbie-friendly possible answer- in which ways do the
overall architectures of the two programs diverge?
I am not talking about the obvious differencies about the two programs
which can be easily found on the Internet.
I am also sorry if this question was already asked, but I did not found any
thread about it (and it is possible that I searched wrong!).

Thanks a lot

is that the xenial or the bionic host?

The universe repositories of both computers are enabled. I added a log

previous steps of the scripts. I hope the log files help

dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: debhelper-compat (= 12)

you might want to remove that line from debian/control and instead try
$ echo 9 > debian/compat

portaudio19-dev libjack-dev

this i don't understand.
according to https://packages.ubuntu.com/ both of these packages are
present on both xenial and bionic.
you must have the "universe" repository enabled (but afaik, this is
standard)
