If you try to open a new stream while a stream is still running (in the
helper thread), [readsf~] will just go silent.

At the bottom of http://msp.ucsd.edu/software.html click
 click on "directory
listing of
all downloadable files" and it will lead you to
http://msp.ucsd.edu/Software/

BTW, be careful with 0.52-2 because there is a serious regression
in the
[readsf~] object (which has been fixed in 0.53)

Re: [PD] Apple Silicon (M1 Pro, M1 Max, M2) questions

2022-11-23 Thread Dan Wilcox
My home machine is an M1 laptop and the work machine is an M1 Pro. Both run Pd
fine and any externals which are compiled for arm64. If the external is built
using pd-lib-builder, it's relatively easy to build for arm64 and there are
already numerous external builds which support arm64 on "deken' aka "Find
externals."

What you may be finding is that early on, people weren't able to run native
externals because there weren't any precompiled for amr64 yet. Now there are
many. Worst case, you can force running as x86_64 using Rosetta: Right-click on
.app -> Get Info, check Open in Rosetta.

Re: [PD] Pd-list Digest, Vol 212, Issue 35

2022-11-23 Thread Philip Stone via Pd-list
Hi Kerry,

I’ve been running my system on M1/Monterrey-Pd 53.0 with no issues, and am
enjoying the performance boost immensely. Any externals I haven’t been able to
get, I’ve compiled (I can’t speak for GEM, though).

You say: “Miller told me that it may not handle Pd’s real time processes, that
he saw messages about problems.”

That would certainly be a concern! I haven’t heard anything about this; can
you (or Miller) please elaborate?

[PD] OsX : pd 53.0 or pd 52.2 now :)

2022-11-23 Thread Jean-Marie Adrien
Hello list
I have an important production in January, and have to do it on OsX Monterey M1.

The thing is that I have to upgrade old complicated historical things in 32
bits (yes !) finally to 64 bits at this occasion and,
I began last month to have a feel about this task, by running pd 52.2 with
rosetta on Monterey a couple of hours, and it seemed feasible.

Went back to this job today, and pd disappeared from the apple mini Mac
(because of automartic upgrade of Monterey !) and all what has to be found on
the net now, thanks to everyone and particularly Miller, is the brand new pd
53.0 :

Basic questions concerning this new version

1- no need of rosetta (on Monterey M1) I guess ?
2 - are most common libraries (gem) available in this format or is it better to
find somewhere a pd 52.2 and go with rosetta and old 64 bits libraries until
everything is « available »

Thanks to all :)
JM

Re: [PD] RNBO in Max, streamlined export workflow

Hello,
I'm working on a project where raspberry pi would share both PureData
patches and max RNBO. I'm actually planning to use OSCquery with the help
of ossia external to evaluate OSCquery's json with PureData, for having
both working same way on raspberry pi. Here is my one cent...

Hello,
if you have some specific need of an external for Apple silicon I would
add it to dépend packages.

[PD] Apple Silicon (M1 Pro, M1 Max, M2) questions

2022-11-23 Thread kerry l. hagan
Hi all,

I need to update my laptop, and I’m trying to decide between M1 Pro, M1 Max and
M2. CPU benchmarks show that M1 Max runs fastest, but Miller told me that it
may not handle Pd’s real time processes, that he saw messages about problems.
So when I Googled and also searched this list, I’m finding issues with
externals and compiling, but nothing specific about vanilla Pd, no externals,
running poorly on Apple chips.

They’ve been out for a while (except M2), so maybe you all can advise?

Thanks,

Kerry
