Honeywell used the name for a 1250mm mirror optic for Exacta. Also a dirt cheap, and in noway deserving the brand name, series of Rollei 110 cartridge cameras used a lumitar lens. These were made by Tudor in Japan. I don't mean the Rollei A110 and E110, those where real Rollei-cameras with Zeiss lenses (Tessars I believe) I also think the 2.8 135mm lens is by far the most produced type of lens next to the standard lens. Every manufacturer made one. Unless its a Leitz Elmarit it couldn't be worth much. Sounds to me its just a funny name. Sunagor lens
I am holding a Sunagor Super Wide Semi Fish-Eye 0.42x made in Japan lens in my hand. It has no focus control or aperture. On the back it has 54mm thread, and a step down ring to 52mm. Think about how digital, right now, fits into your overall picture. Yeah, I still am... Not that the 3 Mp S is in any way shabby, but that the 5 Mp 550 extends those specifications, almost in every direction... I bought a digital camera for my girlfriend this CHristmas. An Optio 330GS. I bought it in a way that fit into my overall thinking, as well. We both go on a trip together, we both take cameras. Why should she take her PnS film camera when my film cameras are superior in every way (but size and weight)? Didn't make sense. She can take her digital along for the snapshots, and I can break out a film camera for the nice pictures. The 330 seemed to be the best choice for alot of reasons, including the fact that its highest quality setting should produce adequete 4x6 and 5x7 images. Anything above that could be covered by my own equipment. I didn't need any more (nor could I justify the expense, but work with me here!). If I had money to spare, and were buying for me: I'd buy an Optio S. Pure convience. If I'm planning on photo ops, I'll take a 35, 645, or 4x5..but if I'm just heading out for whatever, I'd rather have the tiny, tiny cmaera I won't think twice about carrying, rather than one that I might leave at home cause even though its pretty small and light, it still makes my pockets bulge. I understand... At 8 oz. the 550 weighs 1/2 lb., while the S is only 1/4 lb... I suppose if I just wanted a digital for snapshots, I'd be happy with the S, but I would tend to use it (my new digital) when I didn't want to use film, but still wanted most of the other capabilities. So it comes down to more convienece over the ability to have better results... No, it's convenience VS. better results. Not MORE convenience. Well, I guess there might really be no distinction there, come to think of it... I frequently DO tend to take photos, whether with digital or film, at each end of all the specs, and if I regularly got to the point where I cursed my decision to take the more convenient camera...and was unable to do dim existing light or sunny snow photos, I'd feel I'd erred. Zoom, for instance. I am enough older now so I do not use a walking zoom. If I'm across a creek or some shoreline rocks and I want a tighter crop, these days I'd zoom in on it. Most likely the 5X zoom and 187mm lens would get what I'm looking for, and the 3X zoom with the 105mm wouldn't quite be able to do it. Also, if I did take this not-quite-tight-enough photo with the 3 Mp camera, I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the higher density of the sensor and crop to fit and expand, if I wanted to... ...however, what if that slightly larger camera detracts from your willingness to ALWAYS have it? A 5x7 of the UFO landing is worth more than an anal probing story with no picture. You're absolutely right, of course! First, get SOME photo! The Optio 550 is still pocketable, however. Yes,. it's bulkier than the S, indeed, but much more capable. It carries a 187mm lens in a 3 X 3.9 X 1.6 thick package. Try THAT with your MX! I hope it isn't priced out of my range... RE: Sunagor lens
Hi Frits: I used one of these some years ago for a day. It was a bit of a novelty which wore off its appeal pretty quickly. With a M50mm f:1.7 it gave a full frame image with enough distortion to call it a fisheye effect. With my M28 f:2.8 it gave a circular image within the frame. Optically it had poor sharpness and very low contrast (muddy tonality). It was nearly useless with the 28 mm lens. Needless to say I never had the desire to use it again. I imagine all of these add-ons would give you similar quality. Not recommended. I had in mind a side by side test, but after the first roll I thought it was unnecessary. The Supra 200 is the clear winner for me, mainly because it still has all the advantages of the 100 in terms of grain and colour rendition, but it seems sharper (to my eye, at least) and the lab I bring all my negatives to seems to do a better job with the 200 (to be honest, I always read what filters they are using when they print and, under the same conditions - standard filtrature -, the 200 is a bit more... natural - it's a sort of a Reala with 200 speed). I think it is really a 200 speed film (the 100 always seemed to me a 125, but I guess I'm too anal about it). There are times when I still prefer to use a 100 film (usually the Reala, now) but it's a big advantage to have a bit more speed. It allows me to avoid buying too much Supra 400 (I like this one a lot, too, but when I really need more speed the 800 is often a better choice). Hope this helps Gianfranco = __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Re: Supra 200 ??? (vs. Supra 100)
Hi, Gianfranco Thanks for the input. After making my question I found this info on Kodak UK website. Maybe it is usefull for you too: An integral part of the development for the new Royal Supra 200 film was for its grain when exposed at ISO 100 to be similar to that of the current Royal 100 and Supra 100 professional film. This goal was set to allow photographers for whom fineness of grain is the prime criterion in film selection, to be able to use the new Royal Supra 200 film rated at 100, free of any grain worries. Having the worlds best grain at 200 speed and improved sharpness, the Royal Supra 200 speed film is more versatile than a 100 speed film, while still meeting the image structure needs of previous 100 speed users. This makes it a good replacement for the old Royal 100 and Supra 100 professional films, which will be discontinued. enabled again... an electro spotmatic with unique accessory
Hi Gang, on my way to acquiring every single model ever made by Asahi Co., I recently took a chance on an early ES, the one that spells out electro spotmatic. The seller advertised it as non-working, but in mint condition. I paid less than $120 US, simply for the cosmetic condtion, with ideas ruminating in my head about transferring the top plate and bottom plate to a working model. Well, the camera arrived and as soon as I put the battery in, that meter leaped up and performed like a circus animal. Seems quite accurate compared to my other ES, to. So: mint condition, working, rather uncommon beast; a fine addition to the Barras pentax family. Now, the curious accessory: the Asahi pentax everready case: also in mint condition, but brown. I've always seen black ones. Anyone else seen one in brown leather? Sid
Re: Digital, Smidgital: I'm a new member of the 6x7 club!
Sounds like you got a nice deal there Sid. I hope to be able to set aside enough money this year to enter the big is better club. :)(God i hope the Y-M did not hear me) Just not sure yet what it will be.I fondled Aarons 6x7 and it felt nice.May keep an eye out for one too. Dave Since I never fall into anything halfway: I got a 75/4.5 SMC tak 6 x 7 and a 150/2.8 SMC tak 6 x 7 and I have a 105 whatever super tak on the way. I bought a TTL viewfinder from KEH, and acquired a helicoid extension tube and the 67 and 49 mm reverse adapters. I want to do some macros of my orchids with this new system. I hope to acquire a 135mm macro and a 55 mm lens as soon as I can hide it on the books from the war department. I was curious how to determine the age of the camera. It's obviously an early model, no MLU. Is there a way to determine its mintage via the serial number? Sid

On the back it has 54mm thread, and a step down ring to 52mm. If I understand this correct, you can mount it on a lens like a filter, and it will give you a wide angle lens. Doe anyone know how good this is? What would the value be? The lens is in very good condition. It's worth twenty bucks or so, as a novelty lens. Expect unsharp photos, with serious color fringing, and vignetting, and extremely soft anywhere but in the center, where it is simply soft. But it's fun, if you can find a good lens to match it to, and suitable subject matter. Many of these lenses come apart in the middle (it's a feature not a defect). The bottom half then is a Macro lens, or rather a diopter filter, which is not too shabby, in the absence of anything better for closeups. -- John Mustarde www.photolin.com

OT:IR at home.What went wrong
Hi all. A quiry for the IR crowd out there. I had a roll of Kodak IR in the SP500 since Septmber(i know too long)and i shot the last few frames this past weekend.I had a big problem when i went to pull it out of the can.I did not realize how tough a film base it was and could not rip a good start line,so i put it in the tank(with lid)and went for the cutting tools.I had great difficulty in loading the reel.It would roll smooth until the last 6 or so and get VERY tight.I finally loaded it with a bit of tightness and did the proccessing. I used Ilford Ilfotec dd x (mixed in mid Feb) and Ilford fixer(mixed last week). There is no times for this developer but Aaron found one in his book of 7 min. When i pulled the film out of the wash, crap, all but 3-4 were ruined. Most were very black or nothing at all.The few thet developed were not of the same caliber of the other 7 done in various labs. Did i fog this film when i put in back in the tank and opened the door for cutting tools.Or did it sit in the camera too long, or the wrong chemicals. Oh and the last few frames must have had film touching as there was a curved line and sproket holes visible. Any clues to were i went wrong.I plan on shooting double what i did in 2002 and want to home develope this stuff.Any reel loading tricks. Dave Brooks

What do you mean, rip a good start line? I had great difficulty in loading the reel.It would roll smooth until the last 6 or so and get VERY tight. I assume this means you're using plastic reels. Hi Dave, First, I guess it stood in the camera for too long (but I should have a look at the negative to have a better guess). Second, I don't know how do you usually cut the film before loading, but my experience tought me that the cuts have to be slanted (you have to cut the film in the shape of an arrow, or a wedge - trying to not cut the holes). Use always the scissors. Ciao, Gianfranco = __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Platinum - Watch CBS' NCAA March Madness, live on your desktop! http://platinum.yahoo.com
