Re: PESO - Portrait
Bruce, All of them are nice portraits, but I keep going back to the first one for some reason. She's just seems to look more natural in that one. The other two while technically very good do not seem to have quite a genuine feeling. Just my 2 cents, but then again I don't really know that much about portrait photography. I just think the first has more emotion than the other two. Paul: I really like this shot. It's crisp, sharp, and colorful. It's a great photo of the woman within a wonderful context. It's perfectly composed. All the elements are exactly where they should be. You caught it at just the right moment. Just lovely--and fun. Makes this woman think of her younger days, shopping, carefree . . . OT - Purchase Request (USA only)
Hi team, I have a favor to ask of someone in the USA. I need a portable hard disk recorder, but with certain mods made to it, and there is only one guy who mods these things and sells them, from a small shop in Thomasville, Ga. He sells from his web site, but not to oversees buyers sadly. If I Paypal you all costs and fees - you won't be out of pocket - could you buy a cashier's check at your own bank and send it to him? I will arrange the order, so all you have to do is post the check to the address I will provide, after you are satisfied that I have paid you in full via Paypal (I pay fees). He will then post the recorder to an address of my choosing (it will be NY) so I can collect it when I visit there in May. The cost is in the region of 650 bucks. There's a unique British token of my appreciation in it. (no, bill, not a spanking). Please reply off-list, appreciate it. TIA -- Cheers, Cotty ___/\__ || (O) | People, Places, Pastiche ||=|http://www.cottysnaps.com _ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

My only quibble is that I don't think the horizon splitting the image in the middle works in this case. I'm not one of those fanatic "never put the horizon in the center" zealots, but in this case I think a more asymmetrical look is needed because of the lack of any other horizontal elements in the composition. Re: Chimps
Just a thought. Chimping arises from the same reasons Polaroid sold well for many years. There is a need to "see your product". The same people who like to take pictures like to look at them. Digital cameras, especially with increasingly larger LCD screens, satisfy both these needs. A pro shouldn't be missing shots to look, but an amateur should do whatever makes them happy. That's the point of being an amateur, yes? Nice shot, BTW. Flash trigger voltage measurement.
There was a discussion a while ago about flash trigger voltages and a list somewhere on the net of what they are. I have come across a very interesting article in a local electronics mag about this very subject. What they have discovered is, it is very difficult to get an accurate measurement of the voltage. Basically any Digital Multi Meter will load down the trigger voltage and depending on the DMM, the more or less loaded down it is. Analogue Multi meters are worse. Even a Digital scope with a 50Mohm probe loads down the trigger voltage. So the list on the net will be out anywhere from 5% to 500%, so beware. The mag article uses Kirchoff's law to get the real flash trigger voltage. Rather complex math beyond my skill level. Re: Chimps
Thanks Marcus. The term "chimping," or "dhimps" for those who practice it, is meant to be descriptive of the way some photographers behave when they're looking at the screen view of their digital photos. They bend their head in a posture similar to that of a chimpanzee. Sometimes they make a noise not unlike that of the lower primate: "ooh, ooh, ooh!" It was somewhat of a derogatory term at first, but it's fast becoming a part of the photographer's standard lexicon. Paul On Mar 31, 2008, at 12:40 AM, Marcus A. Further DA35 macro thinking (was DA35/2.8 Macro Samples (unofficial))

Love the primes, but the zooms are more flexible and > all three of my current ones are excellent performers. I am a zoom guy myself most of the time for convenience and cost reasons. But I have to see things honestly: in no way I will be able to buy a DA* zoom, it is just flat impossible, alternative from Sigma or Tamron might be possible but 800+ Euros for a lens is impossible for me :( Also, thinking a bit more about that 35macro... In Europe (I know in US the price difference between FA35 and DA35 is big) the price is about the same for an FA35 or the DA35. This an interesting point IMO, even if we dunno if the DA35 covers 35mm 'FF' yet ;) Also, it is a macro lens but a cheap one for a OEM brand: 310-340 euros isn't much and it enables Pentax with a very cheap macro lens. The DFA50 is around 480-500 euros and quite a bit bigger, and nowhere near "normal" lens on digital. It offers direct competition to Sigma 50 macro which is at the same price. > -- > M.
