OT: A Modern Vision - Charles Bayliss, Photographer, 18501897
Charles Bayliss was one of Australia's earliest photographers - all of his work was carried out in second half of the 19th century. I confess to never having heard of him until I saw a brief segment on television on Friday about an exhibition of his work now showing at the National Library of Australia in Canberra. There is a small example of his work on the Library's website: http://www.nla.gov.au/exhibitions/bayliss/index.html It's worth a look even if you aren't able to visit Canberra while the exhibition is running (it's on until 12 October). His paroramas of Sydney (360 degree) and Stawell (180 degree) are inspiring, considering that they were photographed in the 1870s. The full catalogue of the exhibition can be downloaded from the website. It was installed in my new (last October) computer, so it hasn't seen a lot of use. It turned out to be about 50 watts short of feeding my computer's power requirments. I believe it is a very good one, and will amply power most any system. I would prefer a Canadian buyer, but will ship anywhere once paid. No reasonable offer refused, best reasonable offer gets it. Re: PESO - No Political or Religious Comment Intended
I've jumped back on list briefly because it is too balsted hot here... even in my ac'ed apt to do much physical work or think... To say "yes" to Bob Sullivan's ref to Tom Lehrer... who I first heard in high school in the 50's when My H S drama teacher played his first album which included "the Boy Scouts marching Song" and "the old dope peddler" and "Rickety tickity tin" he lampooned everything with great wit and style, though his voice was not exactly what you would call a signing voice. ann David J Brooks wrote: >On Thu, Jul 17, 2008 at 1:07 PM, Bob Sullivan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > >>I think the song was written and originally sung by Tom Lehrer in the >>'60's while he was a grad student in Boston.
