Well, I have to admit I had my hopes up for some Derbyesque street
photography. But, still, it's an interesting shot. If I were to change
anything about it, I'd do a slightly tighter crop to get the $12 item
out of the foreground.

Aside from that, based on the apparel, I'd probably spend a lot of time
loitering at that storefront -- at least until they told me to beat it.

Wow am I a GOOBER sometimes (most times, truth be told). I've just
today realized that I had my K-x set on 6M JPEG only (no RAW) for my
chase pics on Sat.
I also think I used the wrong white balance. That sort of limits the
quality you can get out of a panorama, but that didn't stop me from
trying. This was taken from a number of vertical shots stitched
together using Microsoft ICE and then cleaned up some in Photoshop.
The storm was just beginning to tornado in the distance (just left of
center). I've got a much larger version of it, but didn't want to
upload that to Flickr. Hope you enjoy it, such as it is:

I've had the previous version of 'Perfect Effects Free' for a year or

generally use it in association with a layer mask to apply an effect
to only certain parts of an image.

I haven't installed version 3 yet.

No biggie, just haven't PESO'd for a while. Unless you've already
consumed your Daily Recommended Allowance for red gates, then viewing
this should have no detrimental effect on your day, one way or the
other.

Hard to tell, i have not been able to smell things very well for a
number of years. My sister seems to think its hyacinth as well. These
along with the small daffy bulbs and some others, came in a flower
arrangement from a friend when Erin had the horse land on her a few
years back. I kept the bulbs in the dirt they came in, in the garage
over winter, and planted them a few years ago around the property.
Some took, some did not.

Yes indeed, Walt! Although I have to say that it didn't feel terribly
warm to us! But it was screaming. You had to lean back into it just
to remain standing, at times. I was a little concerned that it was
going to blow my tripod (with video camera on it) completely over. The
outflow winds (cold exhaust from the storm) would be blowing in the
opposite direction and are far down behind the precipitation.

Nice capture.

I also think I used the wrong white balance.
As long as you don't use 'auto white balance' you can always get what you
want in the RAW conversion. Auto white balance might give you a different

Bruce,

That looks like a great exhibit! I wish it was closer.

One of the communities whose interest overlaps with the vintage styles
is the swing dancers (Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston).
I've previously met a few swing dancers from Toronto, but don't know
them closely. So, I sent an e-mail to TSDS and a couple more groups -
as they would probably enjoy this exhibit.

Have fun!

I didn't touch it either. There was a statue in the Castle of a chap with

Too bad there isn't something more interesting -- or mysterious --

Re: PESO: Hobbit House, Red Gate

2012-04-17 Thread Darren Addy
regarding Hobbit Houses... My wife and I used to take walks near the
small university here (University of Nebraska at Kearney) and there
were three houses side-by-side in one block that we just called the
"Hobbit Houses". (My wife is a Tolkien scholar who teaches English
part time at UNK, so she/we have more than a passing interest in all
things Middle Earth).
:)
One day, we saw a realtor's For Sale sign in the front yard of one of
them and that's All She Wrote. This interior shot is one of the first
images that I took with my first Pentax DSLR, the K200D:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/pixelsmithy/2758059249/in/photostream/lightbox/

(PESO within a PESO). I don't recall if I've shared it before, but the
light was lovely.
