Thanks, Mark! Still getting to know the camera. Did focus testing today. Not too much adjustment needed--a bit of back focusing on the DA* 50-135mm, but adjustment seems to have fixed it. Re: Fwd: Re: Injured Bird to identify
There's not. There's an animal control office in the Police Dept that will come and remove wildlife (including stray dogs & cats) that threaten you, your kids or your property. There's an emergency (after hours) vet clinic that can put you in touch with authorized rehabilitators for hawks & owls. But nothing for ordinary birds & other small urban wildlife. It doesn't look like any of the blackbirds I found on Cornell's site. It's not glossy or iridescent like the Grackles & it has no distinctive markings. It's dark grey all over except for the face which appears slightly darker. The legs and feet are dark grey or dark brown and it has brown/black eyes. The one leg was broken completely off, held in place only by some strands of skin or something. It didn't make it through the night, but it doesn't look like the neighborhood cats got it. I think the wound to its leg was bad enough it succumbed to it. I found it this morning when I was taking breakfast scraps out to the compost bin. PS: I apologize if this is a duplicate post. It's the message I was trying to reply to when I found out Roadrunner was EFFED-UP. From: David Mann I don't know what kind of bird it is but is there an animal shelter near you that could take it in? Re: Injured Bird to identify
Not really. Injured pets, some injured wildlife, and especially injured raptors ... there are resources I could call on. But for something like "regular" birds, no. It didn't make it through the night. I found it in the yard this morning when I took my breakfast scraps out to my compost bin. I don't know if a cat got it (it's not torn up) or if it just expired from its injuries. One thing that's giving me trouble identifying it is it doesn't appear to have the glossy feathers most of the blackbirds are described as having. It's a fairly uniform dark grey. I'd even call it black, except that the head *is* black & there's enough difference you can really see the rest of it is not quite black. It has a dark eye (black or dark brown) and the undercarriage is dark brown or black. PS: I hope this makes it through. Roadrunner is EFFED-UP again and Yahoo is trying to send this as HTML.
