Based on that icon of accurate reporting -- Parade Sunday Supplement -- in many Sunday papers, the SI staff photogs are responsible for the Superbowl Cover Shots, and have been for years. In fact, some have shot Every Superbowl (Assuming I can read and think at the same time) and are expected there again according to yesterday's article. Re: Boston update about the blizzard
Just took to the dog out for his last walk of the evening, weather.com's hourly report says we experienced blizzard condition. There was a bit of blowing snow, but nowhere near blizzard conditions. In my youth, (gaud but that makes me feel old to say that), I had to trudge about a mile through about 1 and 1/2 feet of snow, with wind that cut through my down parka like it wasn't there, and my breath freezing into icicles in my beard, to get to my office. I was a graduate student and the school administration didn't even bother to cancel classes until the afternoon. I don't even know how cold it actually was. Tonight I was wearing a sweater a Squall Jacket, and a wool cap. So far. this is nothing. On 1/26/2015 8:02 PM, Mark Roberts wrote: Whew! Re: Sports Illustrated fires all it's (six remaining), photographers
It is a popular trend to outsource everything and to use contractors instead of own/full time employees. Even when it doesn't offer actual savings, especially in the long run (as frequently happens), it helps to look well on the books, especially for publically traded companies and/or state entities, such as universities (although SI is not in either of those categories). I suspect the savings for not having full-time photographers come from not having to pay for the benefits (medical insurance, retirement benefits, etc.). For a similar reason, Texas AM (that big U. within 3-hr drive from you) outsourced physical plant, janitorial services, parking, and possibly something else. Speaking of writers and editors, - reading BBC news website, recently I've got very disappointed about how sloppily some articles are written. They must've outsourced [some of] their writers and editors as well. :-) Igor Morris Galloway Mon, 26 Jan 2015 14:06:44 -0800 wrote: Based on that icon of accurate reporting -- Parade Sunday Supplement -- in many Sunday papers, the SI staff photogs are responsible for the Superbowl Cover Shots, and have been for years.
