Another 5 star image. You really have an eye for composition. The St Paul's

Thanks to those who looked & commented. I have harvested some seeds but it

Re: PESO - The City

2015-07-17 Thread Rick Womer
Wow. Thanks everyone!

Alan, I don't think it's physically possible to get the whole building
in one shot. It is enormous, and tightly surrounded by other
buildings.

The whole area was utterly leveled during the Blitz, and St. Paul's
was hit by bombs three times; but by extremely diligent fire brigade
and bomb-disposal work the damage was limited. Amazing. After the war,
lots of office buildings colonized the newly-vacant land around the
cathedral.

The best view I've ever had of St. Paul's was on Christmas day in
1981. My wife and I walked from our flat in Bloomsbury to St. Paul's
for evensong. A couple of inches of fresh snow had fallen, and (it
being Christmas) there was no traffic at all. We walked on untracked
snow up the middle of High Holborn, with St. Paul's looming
majestically in front of us. No camera, alas. I'll be very senile
before I forget that afternoon.

Re: K-3II Pixel-Shift Resolution in the real world

2015-07-17 Thread Mark C
I was wondering about that myself Since pixel shift does not work
with flash I'd need to make some changes to my current workflow. I rely
on flash to illuminate the subjects. Two advantages there - first the
flash freezes the subject (it is amazing how much vibration becomes
evident at high magnifications) and second because of the sheer amount
of light needed due to the light loss from the extension tubes and also
from the need to use low ISO's. I try to shoot at ISO 100 since focus
stacking also seems to stack noise as well. When I have tried to go up
to ISO 400 even, the noise in the final combined image gets to be very
noticeable.

I might try to work to resolve those issues - continuous lighting would
make set up a lot easier.

Adobe seems to be on a power-play streak.
We recently discussed their new arm-twisting decisions about LR and
pushing people into the Cloud.

I just discovered that the new Adobe Reader DC has the autoupdates
enabled by default and the option/preference to disable them is removed.

The only way (unless you are willing to install some additional crap
from Adobe) to disable autoupdates is to create a new register key value:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown]

"bUpdater"=dword:

I disabled it via the registry for now, but it might be the time to
replace it with one of the alternatives (Foxit, Sumnatra, etc.).

I do not tolerate autoupdates, especially on my work machine.

I hope this information might be useful to some people here.

Yep. I actually had a bunch of Adobe entries in the hosts file, but,
apparently, Reader DC uses yet some different host/set of hosts.

I was surprised that it started auto-updating itself this morning.

Thanks for the reminder, zonealarm is a very useful tool. I don't

Re: SP blackout

I found a Super-Takumar 50/1.4 at a local flea market a couple of
years ago, and it had the word "Takumar" blacked out. "Super" and
everything else were left alone. Serial number was 3140896.

That's a particularly nice coffee shop shot - I think
- but benches just fine as well... and more like what Ilike to shoot
than the coffee shoppers.
Maybe from years of worry about not having model's releases for stock...
and my not liking

to see photos of myself in that kind of situation
