I've got the FA* 250-600, A* 300, and FA* 80-200, none of which I've used
for a period measured in years, not months. :( Mind you, I've hardly even
picked up my K5 (and the stable of DA* zooms) in over a year.

I need to get off the fence and decide whether I'm going to stick with Pentax
(in which case I'll start thinking about the DA* TC and a K3), or switch over
to a 4/3 system. Just waiting to see if Olympus release an OMD E-M1 Mk II ...

(No - I have no interest in the FF Pentax. Even assuming it's significantly
cheaper than the Sony Alpha a7R II at $3200, it will still probably cost more
than I would want to pay for a body, and I'm happy with the current format).

Re: Full Frame delayed to Spring 2016

2015-09-18 Thread Darren Addy
The October announcement should include some specs. The Spring timing
of the actual release makes it almost a certainty that the camera will
have the same 42MP sensor as the A7r II, and put to bed the 36MP
thoughts.

That would give Sony an 8 to 10 month lead time offering a camera with
a sensor to the public. However, Pentax would have the opportunity to
use it with their pixel-shift resolution and Astrotrack technology,
should they decide to build similar features of the K-3 II into the
full frame.

PESO -- Do you think?

2015-09-18 Thread P.J. Alling
I went for a walk in Westwoods nature preserve, today, hoping to get
some photos of large water fowl, (they were there, I could call them
call, and saw some Egrets at a distance before they saw me, and flew off
saying loudly in their native tongue, "Look and idiot with a camera!
Fly Away!"), but unfortunately someone before me decided to also take a
walk there with a couple of cans of spray paint. I have no idea what
this is supposed to mean, it could be a pseudo philosophical comment, or
a mourning for a loved one. But what ever it is it didn't belong here.

I have such a lens, but to be honest it isn't as good as PS Elements for
making the effect or, of course, a patch on a tilt/shift lens. Now if I
lived in New York, there would be a valid reason to own a proper tilt/shift
in the first place, without the need for its other transformational skill.
Much as I would like a proper tilt/shift lens myself, I couldn't justify the
cost to use factor.

The Lensbaby is a useful lens at times, but I'm glad I got it at a bargain
price. I go through phases with it and it is currently in the off season. I
would hate to own a seriously expensive lens and use it as much as the
Lensbaby.

water the pillbox is mostly submerged. That's about 10 plus metres of
water to fill in the gap in less than 6 hours!

Apparently, tilt-and-shift can be used for simulating a miniature

I didn't thinkt about it while watching the show's episode where it is

You can read about this technique e.g. here:

You can create this in PS Elements as well:

There are various tutorials for those who want a go at this without the
expense of a tilt/shift lens. I've got several in mind for this myself, but
as they are slides, I've got to scan them first etc.

Would have liked to see the show but it isn't available for my geographical

Re: Focus stacking... New stuff from Oly

2015-09-18 Thread John

I'm pretty sure it was an iPad app that was only available for Canon &
Nikon. A friend was showing it off about a year ago & at that time it
was only available for Canon, but the Nikon version was coming soon.

It was interesting, but I'll quit photography before I'll ever switch to
Canon.

That looks like a very interesting tool - basically automating the

Thanks, Darren. This was helpful. Actually, I have four Flickr accounts. But I
have only one Yahoo account and log-in. I am able to log onto two of the Flickr
accounts. Two I am not. The reason, which I was reminded of by your comment, is
that I don’t have the correct username and password for these accounts.

Recovering that information from Flickr/Yahoo is proving to be difficult.
Apparently the only way to do it is to submit an email request with what
information you have to Flickr customer servicer, which I have done. I may have
to wait a couple days for a response.

Thanks again,

Thanks, Eric. I’m logging out in my browser. I have publishing to Flickr set up
for three of my four accounts. I think Darren has put is finger on the

Didn't they announce recently that some of their new lenses were being
delayed as well? If so, this isn't a great surprise. There have been some
stunning new FF cameras launched recently, and I fear the money for such
products may be spent elsewhere unless they get a shift on and put it on
camera shop shelves.
