Re: Shag on the Rocks
Not exactly. There are two species in the UK, one of which has a crest or shag. Therefore cormorant and shag. Now that there are many more known species, there is little consistency of naming. PESO: The Monarch
This weekend, the monarchs returned to our butterfly bushes. They seem to be darker orange than those that visited here earlier in the year, which seemed more yellowish than white, especially at midday. I wonder if it is age or diet or just different lighting that make the apparent colors vary. http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=18092952 K-5 II S, FA 100mm 2.8 macro Comments are invited. No, but 6 core and 16 gig's would probably do. Not all that expensive to build, and is a slightly below average gaming machine, or software development workstation. More than enough power for digital image rendering. What you've got will probably let you produce you're pro quality movies. On 9/22/2015 12:09 AM, Bill wrote: On 21/09/2015 7:11 PM, P.J. Nice image. We had pretty much the usual number of monarchs early this summer, and then they disappeared for a while. Thanks, Bob, Frank and Ann. This is not one of our usual butterfly visitors, which include swallowtails, monarchs, viceroys, American ladies, skippers and cabbage whites, so I pursued it for quite a while before I got a decent image. Re: PESO: Hibiscus in the Woods
Thanks, Alan and Jack! I cheated a bit with the title. The hibiscus in a plant in a pot on our rear deck. I noticed an attractive bloom, and wanted to do something different with it than I had done before, so I positioned myself and the camera to use the nearby woods as a backdrop for the image. I liked the way it turned out, so I described the result as a hibiscus in the woods. A couple of days after I took this image, I transplanted this hibiscus to a location in the area around our pool patio, where I hope it will be able to survive the winter. PESO -- Shag on the Rocks II
I may post one more of a different cormorant on a different rock, but for now this will have to do. I must say I learned two valuable lessons both of which I kind of already knew. 1. It really, really really helps sharpness when shooting a ~500mm lens and converter combination, if, you set IS to 500mm, (and not 70mm which is what all these were pretty much set to). 2. When photographing black birds, with back lighting some kind of fill light would probably help exposures a lot. Unfortunately I didn't a flash because I didn't expect to be shooting black birds with back lighting, not that my AF280T supports high sync speed, or would be powerful enough to supply enough light at 500mm ranges if it did. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1604247/PESO/PESO%20--%20shagontherocks2.html Equipment: Pentax K-5II w/smc Pentax A*300mm f4.0 and smc Pentax F 1.7x autofocus adapter. Re: The economics of Digital photography.
All that's assuming that you don't already own, or want to own a computer. Remember a computer can not only take the place of a Slide viewer/projecter, but an entire darkroom. A good quality enlarger could cost at least as much as a mid range computer system, before investing in enlarging lenses. In addition, a computer can be used as a communications device, a movie viewer, it gives access to libraries of information and data, not to mention pornography and cat pictures... I suppose that Pornography and Cat pictures are the same thing to some people, especially if they're Japanese http://www.weirdasianews.com/2015/09/18/japan-loves-women-in-cat-themed-lingerie/ On 9/21/2015 8:46 PM, Rick Womer wrote: Of course, you have to factor in the cost of the computer, storage, monitor, software, and calibration equipment. Re: Tilt-shift photography in Colbert's Late Show
Sorry, my bad. I didn't realize that I could watch that I have access to that because of my ISP (Suddenlink) that probably provides free access to the Cable-TV subscribers. Well, people in the regions where it is aired, can watch "The Late Show" on TV. The tilt-shift portion is at the every show, after the introductory portion which is probably some 5 minutes. It's actually a rather cute visual "accent" of this show.
