Re: OT - Lowepro Nova Sport 35L AW bag on great sale ($10 or less)
My copy of this bag arrived today and this afternoon I transferred the contents of the Lowepro Mini Trekker Classic to the new bag... and then added a few lenses. So at this point I have the bag loaded up with the following: K-3 with attached DA 17-70 f4 Mz-S with attached FA 28-105 f4.5-5.6 IR converted Coolpix 6000 FA 20-35 f4 F 28 f2.8 FA 50 f1.7 DA 18-55 DFA 100 f2.8 macro A* 200 f4 macro Sigma EX 70-200 f2.8 Tokina ATX 400 f5.6 AF360FGZ flash It's a well designed bag. Oddly, it subjectively appears (to me at least) to be smaller than the Mini Trekker when it was fully loaded, but the Nova Sport is holding 3 additional lenses (the A*200 macro, the 400mm f5.6, and the Da 18-55). I realized that I have almost as much in it as I used to carry in a very large Tamrac 612, which has 12 lens compartments vs the 8 in the Lowepro. The Nova Sport better accommodates camera with lenses attached, so compartments aren't taken up with camera bodies (which wasted some of the capacity on the Tramrac 612), but I am still carrying a few less lenses and a lot less miscellaneous stuff. The only cons would be that the Nova Sport is rather light on general purpose compartments. I still use 35mm B film and had to cut back on the number of filters I packed and also added an external film bag where I was able to pack film in the general purpose compartment of the Mini Trekker. I still have to figure out how to fit in some of my macro brackets and a few other items. But still - I'm figuring that the K-1 and attached zoom should fit where the Mz-S is now so I can see this being my main bag for a while. Thanks again for pointing this out, Igor! Mark On 1/4/2016 12:55 PM, Darren Addy wrote: My bag showed up today and I like it a lot. It is pretty roomy and versatile for its size. For one thing, my laptop fits in its slot PERFECTLY. Secondly, I like it for it's "8-pack" arrangement which can store longer lenses (optionally with a body or two attached) and larger external flash unit(s). My shorter lenses will probably remain in my backpack bags. In addition it has a couple of pockets for filters, ColorChecker, etc. It is even plenty tall enough for the Bigma, with body attached (but hood must be reversed for storage). All-in-all a handsome bag and a pretty good value even before the rebate (IMHO). It's an excellent lens, and if you like the FOV it's a very good lens. I don't, I've always found the 135mm (equivalent in this case) to be too short to be a telephoto and too long to be much good for anything else. I don't see how people can say "this FOV is not much use". There are so many things that go into choosing the focal length: distance from subject, size of subject, how much of the background you want to include or exclude, how far away you can get, how close you can get, and even desired depth of field. I could see saying that you only use certain focal lengths for a particular type of photo in a particular setting. If you only shoot portraits in one studio, then I could see having one lens for face shots, one for standing portraits, one for group portraits. I could see someone saying that they never need a fisheye, or a telephoto over 1,300mm, but to pick one focal length or field of view that is well in the range of the widest and longest in your toolkit and say "this FOV isn't much use", rather than "I already have this FOV and that one isn't enough different to be worth the money" doesn't make much sense to me. Re: Lunchtime Visitor
It’s just bokeh, IMO. The background is very busy with small spruce needles intertwined with cedar needles and dead branches, all of which were brighter lit than the cardinal. There’s not a lot of sharpening here, but it’s a considerable crop, so noise and other problems are magnified. This shot would have been a mess with my A 400/5.6. Thus far, the 150-450 seems to generate good bokeh, but with any lens, the look is largely a product of what is back there. In this example, it rendered the out of focus elements in a much nicer fashion: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=18146695=lg > On Jan 6, 2016, at 7:10 PM, Igor PDML-StRwrote: > > > Paul, > > It is a nice picture, but I am curious about a certain aspect of it that > might be a characteristic of the lens: > The background (especially the green from the tree right in the middle of the > photo) seems to have some type of high-frequency "jitter". > I wonder what's the origin of that? > I could see a few different possible sources: > 1. strange bokeh in combination with the small features of the tree > 2. camera shake (motion blur) that is compensated for the in-focus items, but > not quite for the background. > 3. sharpening combined with one of the above > 4. ... Re: Bombarded by news of new Nikons.
Darren, I think you miss a certain point in your reasoning. You see, Nikon have once again pushed the envelope. How successfully - it remains to be seen, but based on their track record - I expect excellent stuff from them. Notice the quite new AF module that appears to breath new life into the DSLR in general. As you know, many a mass media are telling us that DSLR concept is dead, because mirrorless is taking over. Not quite so, I say. The maximal sensitivity is mind boggling and likely it won't be as good. However, it means that other manufacturers (Canon, Sony) would have to respond. Some of that tech will trickle down to affordable common public gear. Basically, Nikon has made their move as far as competition goes. I say - any competition is a good thing as it makes your brand of choice to move forward too. Having said that - as you correctly said - K-5 is a superb choice. I was thinking of upgrading my 5 years old K-5 to K-5iis, but I learned that it is still quite unreliable as far as flash exposure goes, and indeed, my K-5 is not giving me very consistent results with Metz 50-AF1 flash unit. So, I am still staying with good old K-5. I expect that when FF body comes out, many would start dumping their K-3ii's... I'd watch the prices and if they are low enough for me - I'd probably move from K-5 to K-3ii... I should say, however, that it seems to me that high ISO performance of K-3(ii) is somewhat weaker than that of K-5. Kind of closes the circle, don't you think? The rest is just dressing to justify his feelings. That is all. I played with the 90mm somewhat before it was actually released to the public. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
