The European Death Cap is Amanita phalloides. Same genus, different species.
Commonly transferred to new locations (countries, continents) by exports of the
hardwoods it associated with.

about a week too early. I tried some high ISO's - no significant noise -

Devil allusions give it a twist. The stock house decided it was too extreme for
them. The lesbian element coupled with the demonic suggestion put it over the
top for them and quite a few here on the list. Remember, this was 13 years ago

You're not the only one to see the resemblance: she has been hired for
fashion shoots to play Audrey. When you dress her in similar style (ie
solids) with a big floppy hat the similarity is startling!

RE - Missing Exif data

2017-10-04 Thread Ken Waller
Just got a Tim Grey Newsletter in which he explains that while using the
Adobe DNG converter will retain the original pixel data from the original
capture, there are some 'private' metadata from the camera that may be lost.
That data would generally relate to unique features of a specific camera
model which would require software from the camera manufacturer to fully
display.

Seems to answer a question I posted awhile back about possibly missing
Exif data relating to my K3 regarding shutter state (time delay, bracketing
etc).

The European Death Cap is Amanita phalloides. Same genus, different species.
Commonly transferred to new locations (countries, continents) by exports of the
hardwoods it's associated with.

Excellent pictures. A pity we didn't have more time to look arond the grounds -
there's much to see. As Bob says, there doesn't seem to be a bad PDMLer.

Never a fan of rugby, I rowed at school. Several of us were asked to go for
Olympic trials but declined as we were in the middle of exams. So I _could_
have been as famous as Steve Redgrave.

Filip's image is of course the winner, by far. Not only is it well done,
and quite funny, but it has a two-headed nekkid woman hidden in there.
There rest of us combined couldn't come up with even one regular nekkid
lady.
Rick's banana is also very clever, humorous, well composed and full of
pleasing color. A great second banana to Filip's bathroom.

Primarily because it doesn't organize my images by default.  I prefer my

Re: PDML at Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire

2017-10-04 Thread Alan C
Thanks Bob. It was great meeting you & Chris too. We arrived back home on
Fri PM about 24hrs after leaving Heathrow. There has been a lot of fuss with
scattering ashes in Kruger too. Some people have put up little monuments on
trees & rocks.

Nice to see everybody lined up in the traditional way.

Are you back home now, Alan? It was great to meet you, maintaining the 100%
record of good people I've met from the PDML.

The most fun to be had at Fountains Abbey is scattering your parents' ashes
without the authorities finding out. Smuggling the urn past the ticket
office is quite a challenge. One word of warning though, don't sprinkle
ashes on the surface of the ornamental lake...

The river Skell flows right under the Abbey & would have been far better
than a well as a water source. Building of the Abbey began in the 11th
century & was ultimately sacked by Henry VIII's thugs in the 16th century.
It was obviously very well built, the walls still being in excellent
condition but stripped of anything of value. At it's peak, close to 1000
monks were in residence making a good living out of agricultural
activities. Today the grounds are a huge estate managed by the National
Trust, very popular with recreational visitors & home to herds of deer.
Beautiful gardens and water features too.

We then travelled to the Marshall's home in Healy for tea before the

Thanks, Jack, I thought you would. I had you in mind when I shot the
Mallards. Unfortunately the Heron was too far away for the DA 18-55.

Re: Anybody use On1 for photo processing?

2017-10-04 Thread Jostein

Sounds interesting.
At the moment I have made myself very dependent on plugins for LR, so
I've got to check twice and consider if I can change my ways without
losing the convenience.

I've been using On1 products for the last several years in concert with
LightRoom and PS Elements.  The latest version, On1 RAW had some
difficulties getting off the starting blocks but they've offered free
updates almost monthly as they've fixed bugs or added features they
promised but did not appear in the early iteration.  I think it could be
a replacement for LR but isn't quite there yet.  There are still, for
me, things LR does better and things On1 does that LR cannot do.  On1
runs as stand-alone or as plug-ins for LR and PhotoShop so it leaves you
with a bunch of flexibility.  If you do any masking, it does it well.
The On1 Resize module is built on Genuine Fractals so the resize
function is pretty smooth.  The few times I've needed their customer
service, they have been outstanding.  I think they offer a 30 day try
before you buy so you aren't out anything by giving it a shot.  You may
find the workflow a little different than LR, but they have a good
selection of tutorials that aren't mindnumbing.
