Yep, a senior moment. Red-Bellied is the name, and it’s fitting in that the red
tone is below the breast. They seem to be the second most common woodpecker
here in Michigan, trailing only the Downey.

Ok Jack, so what book are you using?
This is a very common bird back here in the east. , one I know in person
very well from years of watching them at a friends house north of the city.

Paul said "red breasted beauty"  The actual name is Red-bellied - so
perhaps some confusion there.

Ken,
Your current Pug entry is certainly well seen, but
wish you had chosen to move somewhat further to your
right and then, turning slightly back to the left,
placed the two near grass tufts further to the left.
Also, the sand behind the tufts could likely have been
cleaned up.
Did you create the dark blue streak?
Nice effort.

Re: PUG themes for 2018

2017-11-07 Thread Igor PDML-StR

Brian,

Those are all very good themes.
I especially like "Upon closer examination..."

As a thought, - you can always pair up some of them (I am using you
original order):

;-)

"Symmetry of arches"
"Circular Shadow"
"Cold gathering"
"Night on the streets"
"Tilted sunrise/sunset" or
"tilted upon closer examination" (such as "the horizon is off!" :-) )
Or, you can combine even in a trio:
"Tilted sunrise/sunset upon closer examination"

"Water upon closer examination"
"Rusted songlines"

:-)

On a serious note, my first reaction about "gathering" was also the least
favorite (as it immediately brought up [photographically] boring
family/friends photos). But thinking more about it, I imagined some
very interesting and unexpected photos from some PDMLers.
(I doubt I would find the energy to realize any of those thoughts, but I
submit very irregularly anyway.)

Cheers,

Igor

I've been a bit slack in getting the themes for 2018 sorted. Here's short
list of 17 possibles - 5 to be culled.

Please nominate your least favs...

Up in the air
Arches
Symmetry
Shadow
Circular
Cold
Gathering
Looking in/Looking out
Night
On the streets
Sunrise/Sunset
Tilted
Upon closer examination...
Water
Songlines (illustrate a favourite song)
Rusted
Industrial
