The pipe has to be turned because it's in the way of where one of the new base
cabinets will sit. I also still have to plumb in the water lines for the
kitchen sink, but that's a job I can do myself. I could probably do the gas
pipe myself, but I'm more comfortable having a professional come in and do it.

Wrapping up UK trip 2018

2018-05-26 Thread Mark Roberts
We're back in London now aaand... it's Saturday of Bank Holiday
Weekend in May. So it's even more of a zoo than usual. We're in the
Paddington Hilton relaxing for the moment; Lisa has her foot on a bag
of ice (side effects of a 100-mile walk have taken their toll). Hoping
to have enough energy for a vegetarian version of fish & chips and a
couple of pints this evening.

It's been a brilliant trip. We experienced a fantastic 9-day walk
through the stunning countryside of the north and four days of
unparalleled hospitality from the Wilson family. They were literally
too kind.

It'll be a while until I get photos on line because I haven't even
looked at any of them yet and as soon as we're back in Boston I have
to turn around and head down to Grandfather Mountain for the Nature
Photography Weekend there. But I think it will be worth the wait. At
least if you like photos of sheep.

Further updates soon. Or relatively soon.

It's not for astrophotography, but it is interesting!

A telecentric lens almost sounds like magic: The size of an object imaged
with the lens doesn't vary with distance from the lens. So if you image a
certain object, and its image is 10mm tall on the sensor, and you move the
object further away from the lens, the image stays 10mm tall instead of
getting smaller. Another way of putting it is that the lens' projection is
orthographic, the "view from infinity" perspective. This property makes it
useful for measuring the sizes of objects, such as for quality control on
an assembly line.

IIRC, there was a function on the Z1-p, when using Powerzoom lenses, that
allowed the user to maintain subject size in the image as it moved around.

Hitchcock zoom:

Since the field of view is more like a cylinder projecting from the lens to
infinity, instead of a cone (like normal lenses), the field of view is
basically set by the diameter of the lens. That's why this lens has a
rather large looking diameter and is described as "large field".
