Re: Vixen Polarie - not Pentax, but I'll use with Pentaxes - any toughts?
Darren, there are some issues with this idea indeed. but I'm willing to try. calibration is performed by rolling the unit on 3 axes, isn't it? IF the communication between O-GPS and camera works through the extension, maybe rolling the connected unit before attaching to the telescope is possible. the reverse position of the image and how the sensor should move to keep proper framing is something I didn't think about until now - IMO a test is the best way to see what will happen. maybe the communication fails with the cable. anyway, since I don't have the telescope right now, I'm going for the O-GPS1 - and adding a TTL extension just to see what happens. even the smaller tracking time of the O-GPS will be an improvement to what I can do today - should allow me to lower the ISO and get cleaner images. Thank you for the comments - will post any results, later. even receiving "imported goods" here in Brasil is a challenge. -- luiz felipe luiz.felipe at luizfelipe.fot.br Date: Sat, 9 Jun 2018 10:10:35 -0500 From: Darren Addy To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Re: Vixen Polarie - not Pentax, but I'll use with Pentaxes - any toughts? Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Your TTL idea would be unnecessary on a refractor, so you must be thinking of using a Newtonian design. In that case I don?t think it would work because the image is reversed. I think the program in the O-GPS would be designed to shift the sensor in only one direction (the one that work with ordinary camera lenses of a refractor-sort of design). Not sure though. Also, keep in mind that the maximum exposure time possible with the O-GPS/AstroTrack gets shorter and shorter as the focal length gets longer. A shorter exposure time with a longer focal ratio is the opposite of what you want for catching photons in astrophotography. Re: Studio Strobes for Pentax
John, assuming you mean "what options do you have for using his gear during the course", your Pentax gear will work just fine with the Profoto kit, fully manual operation only. Neither xTTL or HSS features will work but that's 100% okay since Tony Corbell is an old school guy and he teaches flash metering and manual strobe settings. The Air remotes allow manual triggering and full remote control -- on/off, power levels, modelling lamps, etc. -- from your hotshoe. Like Larry, I have no use for xTTL in studio strobes. It relies too much on luck; it meters by reflected light while I believe strongly in measuring incident light; and subject movement within the studio space can alter the results. HSS has its uses like overpowering the sun outdoors, but I'm okay with using an ND filter instead. If you are looking for gear recommendation for you to buy afterward, I have opinions there too. :-) On Sun, Jun 10, 2018 at 8:48 PM, John wrote: > I'm taking a class on lighting this week with Tony Corbell. Thanks Jostein, Bruce, Jack and Paul for the kind words. I particularly appreciate the conversation I had with Ann about empowerment. I understand why the photo with rope made her uneasy, and it is very important that discussions happen when things that could be seen as disempowering are shown. PESO: lesser noddy
a month or so, surprisingly, a 'rare' seabird made it to the news here (if you are curious, you can read it here: https://bit.ly/2Ju8H1e). when we went to the pulicat backwaters today it was still there. apparently it is just one particular bird still lingering in our shores. so i had to shoot it :) it was cloudy day but here are two photos: https://somethingfeathered.wordpress.com/2018/06/10/lesser-noddy/ k5iis and the sigma 150-500 OS HSM. technical details: 1st photo: 440mm, 1/500, 500 ISO 2nd photo: 500mm, 1/640, 500 ISO comments appreciated. ~subash -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
