Little black furry dog. Perfect! We had a dog for 15 years. Meg went to the pet store for catnip, came back to tell me that I must go and see this little puppy. I saw the puppy, picked him up. Well, I now have a little dog. His name is Prince and he's three years old. He just kind of fell into my lap this afternoon. I went to the animal shelter to see what they might have and there was a sign out front saying they were *FULL* & if you were there to surrender a pet, please reconsider or at least wait a few days before trying again. I've nothing against pit bulls, a friend of mine has one and she's the sweetest girl you've ever met but too many of them have been mistreated to deliberately make them aggressive and that's more than I can handle. I decided to check back with them another day. On the way out, I met a guy coming in to surrender a little black furry dog. He said his daughter was going away to college, so she couldn't keep him and there was no else at home who would take care of him. He didn't know what he was going to do if the shelter couldn't take him. We exchanged names & phone numbers and Prince came home with me. He can call me if his daughter is inconsolable, and I may call him to find out what time Prince expects to be fed in the morning. I've already been to the store to buy food, a little harness for walkies and a bunch of the little bags I'm going to need. I had to go to a club meeting for a couple of hours this evening and he was kind of excited when I got home ... didn't know who that strange man was, coming through his new front door. I gave him time to calm down before I approached him & then we went for a walk. I think it will be good. He's an American Cocker Spaniel, I'm not sure that I can recommend one. The breed can be quite active, (kind of an understatement). On the other hand it is one of the breeds that you can find fairly easily as a rescue. He is a great friend, and now that he's older had mellowed quite a bit. He really needs to be groomed every three to four months to keep his fur relatively short, otherwise he'll be way to shaggy. Re: More critters from Moss Landing
We had the American Bronze at first & later the Beltsville Small Whites (which are really just an albinistic form). The latter are the best for eating - the others get too big. They were easy to sell live to the locals. Haven't seen turkeys in SA except the imported frozen ones at Christmas but I suppose there are some. Chicken, about 50/50 local/imported, is the most popular & cheapest meat in SA. There are Pentax users in SA getting good results with the Bigma but more use the 150-500 because the Bigma is rather heavy for H/H shooting. Probably not for a big, tough guy like you mind you! Glad to see some variety among the 4 legged ... Question for PJ: What breed of dog is that? I've been thinking about getting a small, shaggy dog and that looks like it might be what I'm looking for ... the "shaggy" part anyway. Can't tell from the photo how small (or large) it is. A small dog could ride with me when I go on photo safaris. I want to adopt an older "shelter" dog, so I don't have to worry about who will take care of it when I'm gone. I'm Getting Married...
In the morning. Well, it’s actually early afternoon this Saturday, but that spoils the alliteration. We didn’t hire a wedding photographer. Too expensive for a couple of septuagenarians. So we’re counting on the small number of friends and relatives present to shoot a lot of cell phone pics. Should be fun. I know my bride is always entertaining in addition to being a great partner. We both lost our partners to the afterlife following long, happy marriages, so we’re looking forward to life, part two. Re: August PUG is up!
Sorry for the loss of your companion, Tiger. That is a wonderful portrait of his that you posted in the gallery. Re: August PUG is up!
Very nice gallery! I can totally relate to the friendship/companionship reflected in the dog and cat photos and I admire the fine shots of other critters! Thanks to all of you for sharing these with us. stan > On Aug 7, 2019, at 2:59 AM, Brian W wrote: > > ..here ya go, Cotty! > > View the August gallery here: > > http://pug.komkon.org/ > > (you may need to refresh your browser if you see the previous gallery there). > > Note: The automated submission process usually works well but it's not > infallible. Thanks, Brian. Wonderful gallery chaps - just what I needed. Those Caribou antlers are quite amazing. Our cat, 19 year old Tiger, was very poorly on Monday so I took him to the Vet yesterday. Sadly, total kidney failure & he had to be put down. Alan C On 07-Aug-19 08:59 AM, Brian W wrote: ..here ya go, Cotty!
