PESO 2019 - 125-133 - GDG

2019-11-20 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
I've now posted all the photos I made with the Minox EC on the photo walk that
I think are interesting. This is about my favorite of this bunch:

  https://flic.kr/p/2hNw96J

The rest can be seen in an album on Flickr.com:

  https://flic.kr/s/aHsmJhuGj7

There are still photos to be processed ... I'm almost done with the roll of
film in the Minox C and will likely process it in the next couple of days. :)

enjoy!

Re: OT: SP II and 50 mm f 1.14 "up for grabs"

2019-11-20 Thread P. J. Alling
How is this off topic?  Also who thinks they're going to get over $50
dollars for a Spotmatic II with a 50mm lens these days.  Hell a few
years ago I bought a SMCT 35mm f3.5, a little jewel of a lens, for less
than $30 /because/ it had a camera body attached to it.  They could have
easily gotten two to three times that for the lens alone.

which the light meter *does* work are exceedingly rare. I had a broken
one once and came to the conclusion that it was the 8-pin IC (probably
a dual op-amp) that had failed. It's a surface-mount DIP on a flexible
circuit board so I never bothered trying to identify it and source a
replacement because it just would have been too much of a pain in the
arse.

No need to do anything wrong there. They can very well take care of
killing themselves.

Electronic flashes contain electrolytic capacitors - as reservoirs for
the flash energy and as parts of the oscillator to generate the high
voltage for the flash tube - which lose their capacity if they're left
without voltage applied to them for longer periods of time. Some of this
loss is reversible by applying voltage to them.

Give them fresh batteries, switch them on and wait a few hours. Then
switch them off and on again and with a bit of luck the odcillator will
start with its usual whining sound. If it doesn't you've probably lost
since the repair cost might well be higher than buying a new flash.

In an earlier life, I've spent parts of my summer school holidays at the
Multiblitz factory, selecting pairs of electrolytic capacitors so that
they had the desired capacity.

Do they whine at all? Still might be worth leaving them switched on for 15-30
minutes. Battery corrosion can be dealt with, unless it has actually dissolved
parts.

Unusual for them all to be completely dead. You can recondition capacitors
by setting to manual, then charging and discharging repeatedly. Might take
some time to charge the first few cycles.

These are my faves and I agree with Rick about 7...
8,9,10,12,15,16   the two bet with the birds in them are the
gull 'in your face" one and number 15 which has a lovely mood...
I'd dispense with the others that have flying birds in them since these
two are so strong.
