Re: PESO: Mushroom From Below

2022-06-10 Thread David Mann
It's growing through leaf litter. The top had a fair bit of dirt on it so
wasn't particularly photogenic.

I don't even like edible mushrooms so I just treat all mushrooms as poisonous.
A while ago I read about a species that's edible but becomes poisonous if you
eat it with alcohol.

Speaking of fairies, on her birthday my daughter was given a nice little
stuffed fabric mushroom (fly agaric, of course) with a pouch to hold teeth for
the tooth fairy. She got to use it for the first time last week.

Dan, the nice thing about the phone camera is that it's easy to take a low
photo without crawling in the dirt myself!

Cheers,
Dave

Re: PESO: Metamorphosis

2022-06-10 Thread David Mann
Pretty cool to see them next to each other in different stages.

There's a spot not far from my place where a small number of Monarchs spend
winter but I haven't seen many there yet. I'll have to keep an eye out.

Cheers,
Dave

Looks like you scared off the fairy! Nice shot. Looks like it's growing
on a pile of rubbish. I understand that the species white underneath are
likely to be poisonous.

Dan, a fine photo and excellent description, almost poetic at the end.

A late fifth instar Monarch will then crawl away from the milkweed plant it

Each Monarch larva goes through five stages of growth, called instars,
between the time it hatches from the egg until it enters the pupal stage.

I don't know if this was a good value or not, but I bought a
