Thanks for all the input guys. I have sold and bought items
internationally several times. I have had problems. They all worked
out in the end with some work and waiting. I have never received
or sent expensive items before though. I have known people that have
had items lost. Filing insurance claims, even when insured, was a joke
from what I understand. Some just gave up trying to get their money.
It seems USPS, or any carrier for that matter, blames the carriers of
other countries and vice versa.

Hello,

An update here.

After looking at my first post I see that I messed up on the Zx-5n. I
typed in the wrong price. Shesh.
It should be:

ZX-5n with cable release and AA battery pack for $180

I have also decided to drop the price of the *istD with cable release to $635

Thanks for looking,

Terms of sale:

To inquire about any of these items, or other concerns you might have,
please send a Email. I have taken pics of most of the items. I can
Email a image upon request.

The condition of each item is noted along with any accessories,
manuals, cables, etc that might be included.

Payment can be made via a instant non-credit card Paypal transaction,

helpful, however, doing so presents problems and concerns that I have
yet been convinced to accept.

Prices include USPS Priority shipping only. Any insurance added might
cost extra. Shipping to U.S. only. I do not trust shipping items such
as these overseas, sorry. I have researched prices and feel the prices

mechanically. I will include all factory items in the original factory
box. This includes the manual. A little under 400 images taken.

factory box. Cosmetically perfect. Works great.

FA*28-70/2.8 $500
EX condition. I bought this lens used. I only have the lens, front and
back caps, and the hood. The glass is in great shape. The hood shows
some wear and tear. Mainly rub and scuff marks. The body of the lens
is in like new condition.

AF 330FTZ flash $30?
EX condition. Has a few marks here and there. It works perfectly. Its
a nice basic flash. No bounce or swivel.

Re: Re: Storing lenses in Pelican case

Howdy,

Thanks for the reply Bob. The only thing that worries me about being
in Texas is the amount of moisture, high dewpoints, in the air. I keep
the cases out of the sun as much as possible, and when they are not in
the use they are kept in a cool dark area. I keep a few silica gel
packets, the rechargeable kind, and it seems to work in keeping the
moisture down.
Its nice to hear of others using foam filled Pelican cases as storage.

Until today Cotty I never even considered mites as a possible problem.
I'll keep an eye out for them now. Maybe I should spray the outside of
my case with an insecticide. ;-)
That should do it.

Re: Storing lenses in Pelican case

Thanks Paul & P.J.

This is modern foam, ie not from the 70's :). This is the foam that is
supplied with the case from Pelican. I figure as long as the foam does
not out gas, and I keep enough silica in the case I should be alright
for use as storage. Sure would save time. :)

Storing lenses in Pelican case

2005-06-07 Thread Chad
I have a separate plastic case that I use to store my lenses. It is
dark, and I keep silica gel in the case to keep out the Texas tropical
moisture. When I go out and take pics I transfer the needed lenses to
my Pelican case, which also has silica gel in it. I was wondering if
any damage could occur by storing a lens in a Pelican case which has
foam? Has anyone heard of foam causing damage, ie possible fumes, to a
lens?

Hello,

It is obvious not to use the standard canned air blower. I have not
read much on using CO2 air, such as Leland or American Recorder. I
have used these products and they work fine. The gas contains no
residue and is pure. I have used CO2 gas to blow off a lens, as well
as a CCD. I can find very little on this subject here or elsewhere on
forums. I wonder why? Have I just been lucky all this time?

Pentax D-FA 100/2.8 Macro. WAS: Which Macro lens do you like?

2005-02-23 Thread Chad
I want to buy a telephoto macro lens. After doing some research I'm
starting to like the D-FA 100 lens. It is more compact, lighter, and
just seems to look better than the FA 100. I have read little in the
way of chatter on this lens. Does anyone on the list have experience
with this lens?

Seeing as how Shels's auction for a A 100/2.8 is so popular, re $$$,
my choices are the Pentax D-FA, FA, and the Tamron SP 90/2.8. I'm
still looking into the Tamron.

Any input on the D-FA will be most useful.

Thanks,
Chad

Re: Which Macro lens do you like the most?

2005-02-15 Thread Chad
Wow! Thanks for all the input guys. This is very useful. Helps a lot.
Way back in my grey matter I had a feeling around 100 mm would be the
sweat spot. I will be mainly be using the lens for plant/flower/bugs
on flower type of shots. I'll be shopping today for one. It would seem
by the comments that some non-Pentax lens are good as well. Never
really considered that until now.

AF is not a requirement. It will be used mostly for macro. Next on the
list after this purchase is a regular telephoto. :) Longer than 100mm
of course.

Which Macro lens do you like the most?

2005-02-14 Thread Chad
I'm looking to buy a macro lens, again. Used to have one but now
anymore. Long story. Which lens do you like to use most often for
macro pics, the 50mm or the 100mm? I lean a little towards the 50mm
since it will be cheaper, however, having the extra reach might be
useful. I will be using the lens on a digital and film bodies if it
makes a difference.

Thanks,
Chad

Re: To Mac Users

2005-02-01 Thread Chad
Godfrey,

I currently use a dual processor G4 Powermac as my main machine. I was
interested on your thoughts, and others on the list, about the higher
end iMAC G5 units (20in display).. My thoughts were they would be able
to handle PS fairly well, with enough RAM added of course.

Does anyone on the list own and use a iMAC G5 with PS?

BTW Shel, the Powermac line is very nice. I've been using the G4
Powermac for a few years now. I really have no need to upgrade due to
computer under performance. The OS will take a little getting used to
switching from Windows. IMO, OS X is better than Windows. I work on
both platforms.

Chad

Re: How about the FA28-70 AL

2005-01-27 Thread Chad
I have this lens. I used it a lot. One day I noticed what I thought
was fungus growing on the back element. I thought it was my fault for
keeping it out in the moist air we have down here for long periods of
time. I just recently found out that it is a defect. I would not
recommend this lens for this reason. I bought this lens new when it
first came out. It is now useless due to no fault of my own.

Re: Sigma 2.8 Zoom lens comments

2005-01-10 Thread Chad
In the past, my other AF Pentax bodies have focused fine in situations
where the *istD does not. I was "throw off" by this. It seems the
*istD has issues with AF in certain situations. That is when I had the
idea of getting a faster zoom in place of the 16-45 4.0 I have now for
the *istD. It was just an idea. :) After reading the comments here,
I'm going to pickup a few more primes and keep the Pentax digital
zoom. That zoom comes in handy sometimes.

New Member - ME SE restoration question

2004-08-24 Thread Chad Kealey
Hi, new member of the list here, trying to get up to speed. Anyhoo,
I'm also very new to the world of photography. I've been wanting to
get into it for some time and got the shove when a neighbor of my
parents gave me a box of "old camera stuff" that her late husband had
used. Inside was a mostly well-preserved ME SE along with a nice
little collection of lenses, including two SMC lenses (a 40mm f3.5 and
a 50mm f1.7), two Sigma lenses (a 28-84mm f4 and a 75-200mm f5.6) and
some other seemingly generic 135mm lens. Anyway, after getting it
checked out at the local camera place, I loaded up some film and went
on vacation to Southern Cali and Las Vegas.

After getting the vacation pictures processed at the same shop, though,
it turns out that the ME has some serious light leakage issues. Upon
further inspection, the counter guy noted that the light seals around
the back of the camera and the mirror cushion were decomposed to a
icky, black, gooey state. Since I have some somewhat-related
experience (I worked as an electro-mechanical tech for more years than
I care to recall, fixing photocopy & fax machines and also microfilm
cameras & readers) I figured I'd try replacing those seals myself. I
ordered a "universal" kit from MicroTools and should have it in a few
days, but I'm looking for someone who's done this before to be sure
that I replace *all* the seals that I need to fix the problem. Other
than the two noted (the back cover & mirror cushion), are there any
other seals that should be replaced? Any tips, advice, or warnings I
should be aware of?

Thanks for any help that you can provide.
-Chad Kealey

Replacing light seals on an old ME

2004-08-21 Thread Chad Kealey
I have an ME SE that's having a light leak. I ordered a "universal"
seal kit from Micro-Tools to attempt the repair myself. I've made
similar repairs on microfilm cameras, so I'm pretty familiar with the
process (remove ALL the old gunk, cut to fit and install). However,
other than the seals for the back cover and the mirror "cushion", are
there any other seals I should replace while I'm at it? I'd prefer to
keep disassembly to a minimum.
