RE: C-41 Process Black and White
My opinion is that it is a good way to get quick B&W from Wal-mart, but that's about it. In the darkroom it is difficult to print because most versions have the orange mask of color film, making it a little flat and does not respond well to contrast filters. Again, just my opinion. RE: question about putting pix on memory cards ...
Actually, memory cards may very well replace CD's and other discs for all data transfer. I use CF cards to transfer files, including photos, between the computers in my house. My wife's office is now using CFs instead of discs for transfer and temp storage. I have a 80 gig USB 2.0 hard drive and two CF card readers that I use between my desktop and notebook computers so I only use CDs for permanent storage. As for the shots of Garth, I think they are very good people shots. I have done a fair amount of work with actors, models, and musicians and most agents want a comp card to have one fairly tight headshot with a white, or otherwise blank background, and a few shots of the actor/model in different outfits, as if they were 'in character'. I think that you have some shots that qualify. The first shot could be the headshot with a little more cropping - making it vertical would also help with minimizing the background. The main thing I might have done differently would be to ask Garth to ham it up a little more in a few shots and then be very serious for a few shots since he does seem to be in the same mood for most of the shots. It all just depends on the types of parts he is seeking, which I don't know so I may be way off base. Dave
RE: Problem with buttons on back of PZ-1p
You should still be able to order a replacement door from Pentax USA for not a lot of money. Changing the back door on it is very easy. When you open the back door and look at the hinge there should be a small screw near the top of the hinge. Don't get out that mini screwdriver! Simply use your fingernail to slide the screw down along the hinge axis, releasing the door from the body. Reverse the process to replace it. Easy. If you have problems finding the door I may be able to help - I have friends at a local repair shop. In addition to a large pumpkin patch the farm has numerous attractions for the little people, including hay rides, petting zoo, clowns, corn mazes, etc, etc - kind of a rustic Disneyland. Anyway after several hours of non-stop motion, as only a two year is capable of, we loaded up our pumpkins and headed home. Just as we arrived home the excitment of the day proved too much and my grandson drifted off to sleep in the back of the car. Happily I had my Optio 33L handy and was able to snap this shot. RE: 7 mega pixels
I remember when Kodak was selling one megapixel cameras in Nikon and Canon bodies for $20,000. Now you can get 6 megapixels for under a grand. There will always be something better around the corner but the fact is that we have already met/surpassed 35mm so at this point it becomes more of a status symbol than a real improvement. I wish they would spend more time working on making better 4 way controllers, more accurate auto flash exposure, and better placed CF card doors. -Original Message- From: Dave [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, September 18, 2004 6:49 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: 7 mega pixels Exactly the reason I'm strongly leaning towards Canon. However I am also concerned from a business and practicality standpoint about value for the dollar. Pentax has provided a very good value in the past. Canon and Nikon typically have higher costs from what I've seen in the past. But for someone like myself trying to work their way into professional work it's a tough decision when you know that editors are accepting files from a 6 MP camera now, but may well up the requirement to 8 or more in the near future especially with Canon's release of the EOS20D. Canon's moves to target the consumer, prosumer, as well as professional markets make them very attractive right now. > -Original Message- > From: William Robb [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Saturday, September 18, 2004 8:03 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: 7 mega pixels > > > > - Original Message - > From: "Kevin Waterson" > Subject: 7 mega pixels > > > > People like me need to make > > business decisions based on emerging technology. > > Then buy a Canon. > Pentax long ago lost any claim to being on the forfront of emerging > technology. > OTOH, if all you want to do is make nice pictures, they are a good > choice. > > William Robb > >

It really is a digital version of the film ist which in turn is an updated version of the MZ10 - a very under-rated camera. Of course the *istDs not a pro camera - but it should have wider appeal than the original *istD and IMHO is probably the best camera in its market segment at the moment. I can see nothing from the rivals that would compete. It's small, compact, well made and featured. Many fixed-lens ZLRs (if that's they're called) are larger and heavier. Pentax deserves to sell heaps of them just as they sold heaps of ME series cameras in the 80s. Well Done Pentax! Keep up the good work! Well, the kid is asleep for a little while so let's see these photos. First of all let me say that all of these photos are inspiring. There are a few that really draw me in. I must be in a back lit tree mood because Bruce, Janosch, and Kenneth all submitted photos that I particularly like. Max and Frank both have a great eye for photography, but should seek professional counseling. Dag and Ollen get my vote for the most mysterious. After seeing those shots I am the one who needs to seek counseling. Valentin's shot is intriguing. "This is either brilliant or madness!" "It's amazing how often those two seem to coincide."
