Re: OT: Canon DSLR vs Rolleicord
I'm sure I'm in the minority but to my eye a well exposed optically enlarged 35mm print still beats a print from even the latest crop of DSLRs. To me the film simply looks more natural. The digital print is assuredly cleaner but they lack a certain organic feel. To be digital is good for shooting tons of shots cheaply. But when I went to photograph my little niece last night, I took the ME Super. But as I said, I'm sure I'm in the minority. I've got four computers here and the two bad CD's won't work on any of them. What really gets me is that Apple knew that they had a batch of seagate drives prone to self destruction and didn't warn us. That's it I'm Done with Digital (for now)
So last night the hard drive on my 2.5 year old mac died. Don't even get me started on the fact that Apple knew the seagate drive used on my mac was prone to failures. My last backup was on Jan 30. So I dig out the CD's and guess what. 2 out of 10 of the CD's have failed. I was so angry I was on the verge of cursing. As if to taunt me my boxes of negatives were stored right next to the CD's. I pulled out a box and looked at a sleeve, a softball game from 1982. Still looking good despite spending almost 30 years in a dark closet. So I think I'm going to take a break from digital for a while and shoot only film. I know the data loss can happen in any medium but after two devastating losses in the past 4 years I need to get back to simpler times. Ok second try. Cory, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Earlier this year we lost our dog Fluff to cancer. Good service from the company, and I found it to be an outstanding lens. Sharp and contrasty from f/4, with no noticeable CA or purple fringing. My K10D have me some AF trouble, mostly trying to shoot birds in flight. If the bird ever slipped off the AF sensor, and the camera only "saw" clear blue sky, it would send the lens to the close-focus limit, and stay there (with the AF hexagon blinking). Releasing and re-pressing the shutter wouldn't budge it, nor would switching between AF.C and AF.S, nor would turning the camera off and back on. I had to switch to MF, move the lens focus out, and then switch back to AF. I was able to reproduce this problem on the DA*300, my Tamron 70-300, and my DA 18-55. Now that I'm back home, and thinking of sending the camera in for service, I can't reproduce it any more. :-/ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Film Lives
I recently had the chance to display some 6x6 slides to a group of young people. Most of these kids were 15-16 years old and they were literally blown away. They couldn't believe the detail and clarity of these photos.
