Sigma 2.8 Zoom lens comments

2005-01-09 Thread Geheim
Hello,

I'm looking to buy a faster zoom to mainly be used on the *istD. I
have the DA 16-45 4.0 already. At times this zoom is too slow. It
cannot focus on dark objects outside in low light situations (cloudy)
at times. Most of the time it's no big deal to manually focus,
however, their are times when I do not have the time to manually focus
in order to get the shot.

I have been looking at a couple of Sigma zooms. The 18-50 2.8 EX DC
(digital only), and the 17-35 2.8-4.0 EX DG. The latter is slower,
however, will work good with either a digital or my analog Pentax
bodies. I was hoping some people would have experience with these
zooms and offer up comments.

Thanks,
Chad

I was afraid of that. Thanks for the info.

Poor autofocus performance in low light is a characteristic of the *ist

The comments so far do not surprise me much. It was just an idea I had
:) I'm hoping someone that has used one of these zooms will chime in
in the next few days.

My money might be better spent picking up some fast primes, AF or M.

Thanks for the reply William. I figured no one can say with confidence
which way is best to get rid of stubborn dirt. These digital cameras are
a real pain when it comes to cleaning. They are a lot more sensitive to
dirt/dust.

I have noticed spots on pics I have taken with the *D. I need to
clean
the CCD, but have hesitated for fear of screwing it up. I have been
using Leland's compressed CO2, 99.7% pure so they claim, blowers
for
cleaning my lenses without problem. I was wondering what members
thought
of the product for cleaning the CCD if a simple bulb blower does
not to
the trick?

I think that would be fine.
Having said that, use it at your own risk.

I think I will be ok using the CO2. It has not failed me yet when
cleaning my lenses and film bodies.

DSLR cameras need to be cleaned more often. IMO, that makes them more
sensitive to dust. :)

They are no more sensitive to dust than film cameras were, they are however
more susceptible as the capture medium isn't renewed frame to frame.

I have had absolutely no problems getting my DSLR sensor absolutely clean using
clean compressed gasses. Fortunately I've not had problem debris that couldn't
be blown away but neither do I expect to encounter such problems in the future.

Photoshop RAW image import problem

2004-04-04 Thread Geheim
Hello,

I have experimenting with using RAW format with my *IST D. I have run into a
problem. When I import the image from the CF card into Photoshop CS using
the Pentax Plug-in I get a very distorted image. Using the plug-in I can
view the image just fine. When I hit the import button, or select import
from the drop down menu, to bring it into PS it distorts the image.

Here is a sample: http://www.weatherfootprint.com/Rawimport.jpg

I know I do not take the best pics in the world, but they are better than
this. :)

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Chad

Doh! I knew I missed something. I was keeping up with the thread regarding
this matter awhile back. At the time I was not using PS. Now I am.

I'm doing the update. Thanks Herb. :)

Bill, for what it is worth the box I'm running PS has Mac OSX, 10.2.8.

you don't use the import plugin in CS. you have two incompatible plugins
loaded. you need to remove the Pentax plugin as it isn't designed to work
with CS and install the Photoshop CS update.

Re: *istD current best price $1349 US?

2004-02-06 Thread Geheim
Hello,

I have been watching the price for awhile now. I know how to get the correct
price, and I have never seen it at $1229.95. Just to make sure I added it my
cart again tonight and it has the price at $1349.99. Same price as I have
seen for a couple of weeks now. I even requested a quote. I received the
same amount as above for the quote.

Lens comments website

2004-01-04 Thread Geheim
Hello all,

I've been away from this list for a extended period of time. I have just
recently started to read it again. I have a question. Does a website exist
that lists comments from PDML members on different Pentax mount lenses. I
recall of one such site a long time ago, but have lost track.

I don't want to start threads on different lenses that have already been
discussed.

Thanks,
Chad Richardson
